Customer Reviews

Good Deal for a conveniently bundled systemThis seems to be a good price for a handy bundle that includes the Zosi 4pk HD CCTV cameras, a power supply with a 4-way splitter, and (4) 65' lengths of BNC to power each of the cameras. I should have tested the components prior to installation because one the the four cables was faulty causing none of the four cameras to work; they were all connected to one power supply through a 4-way splitter. After a good deal of troubleshooting, we discovered that the camera connected to the faulty BNC was also not working even after direct connection to the power supply. More than a coincidence, I think that somehow the shorted BNC either caused the issue with the camera or that the faulty camera shorted out the BNC. I could not locate a U.S. phone number for support., but Zosi has been fairly prompt to respond by email to assist in troubleshooting the issues. I'm waiting to see how they will handle the exchange of the defective components which have already caused me a good deal of time and trouble. I will update once Zosi follows through the exchange and the system is all up and running.Update: It took a few days of back-and-forth email communication with Zosi to reach an agreement on my issue with the BNC. But their customer service department was helpful and Zosi promptly sent a replacement cable; my CCTV system is now up and running. I am very satisfied with the system in consideration of the total price paid which was very reasonable.4Hard drive will not "Recycle Record" (overwrite existing data) once full Hard drive won't "Recycle"This product worked great for about 3 months. Once my 2TB hard drive filled up, it started showing "Disk Lost" messages. Going into "Data Management" shows it as being full with 0 bytes free and stops recording (even though the "Recycle Record" button is checked). I've tried repeatedly to reformat it with the ZOSI system, but get error messages that it is unable to do so. I'm almost positive the drive is okay since it does spin up -- just too full. I'd like to check it on another computer, but not sure what format type ZOSI uses (FAT32, NTFS, HFS, other?) I installed a Seagate Barracuda Green 2TB drive (PN 9VT166-570). I've submitted a ticket with ZOSI support, but it is clear English is not their first language and they only offer rudimentary service with canned responses. I will increase my review rating if it turns out my hard drive truly went bad after only 3 months of use in the DVR. 3The cameras have a fatal flaw and the DVR is useless as a security system. The Cameras are clear and night vision is good. However, at dusk, they switch back and forth between day and night (IR). This makes a loud click when the IR LEDs turn on. The on/off switching can repeat 100s of times until the camera finally decides it is dark enough to simply remain in IR mode. The same process repeats at dawn and can even occur when it gets cloudy during the day. The click is loud enough that you cannot use these cameras inside without driving everyone crazy. Worse, each time the camera switches between day/night mode, it can set off a motion detection alert. Multiply the number of cameras you have times 100 on/off cycles and you get the number of motion detection alerts (emails/texts) you will receive every evening and every morning (so the constant phone beeping will keep you up at night and wake you up in the morning). These are all false alarms. The motion detection is totally non-functional. Thus, as a security system, this DVR is useless. The motion detection goes off if there is any change in light. This means that you will get a motion alert when the IR LEDs go on and off repeatedly at night/morning (this can send thousands of alarms every day), when there is a reflected light flash (from passing people/cars, reflections, shadows, clouds, etc. outside the camera viewing area), when a shadow cast within the viewing area moves, when a bright area gets darker/lighter, etc. Basically any even instantaneous change in luminosity will trigger an alarm. Thus you cannot stop continuous streams of false alarms.Detecting actual motion also doesn t work. The DVR allows you to set the area within the camera view where motion should be detected (ostensibly to allow you to ignore areas where motion may occur that shouldn t trigger an alarm i.e. passing people on a sidewalk, cars in a street, motion of trees, shadows, etc.). If you clear the entire area, nothing will be detected (as expected). However, if you set any area to detect motion (even a single square far from anything), any motion anywhere will be detected (so basically the software doesn t work it is just an on/off switch). There is a sensitivity adjustment (the broken English instructions do not clarify what this does or if 1 is the most sensitive and 8 is the least or the other way around). It doesn t matter that there is no useful documentation for this because the sensitivity adjustment has no effect (set anything you want and results will not change). Bottom line is, you either get no motion alarms (no sensitivity squares set) or any motion anywhere will set off an alarm (regardless of if you have one square or the entire screen covered). It is essentially impossible not to have shadows (at some point during the day) or bushes/trees, sidewalks, roads, etc. somewhere within the camera viewing area and all of these will set off the motion detection. Even a single leaf moving anywhere will set off a false alarm no matter what sensitivity areas you set or what sensitivity levels you set. Surprisingly, in the midst of all the false alarms from the Earth s rotation causing shadows to move, leaves rustling in the gentlest of breezes, light reflecting off cars that drive by outside of the camera s view and IR day/night switching, large objects, like people walking directly in front of the cameras and waving their arms/jumping up and down, will often not set off an alarm. Thus, you cannot use this DVR s motion detection alarm to send you an alert/alarm/email (i.e. to be notified when a package is delivered, when someone approaches a door, etc.). You also cannot use the motion detection to trigger recording (so you must record everything continuously). The only way to identify activity is to routinely manually scan through all the recorded video to try and spot activity.I suspect that all these problems are software related (with the exception of the cameras continuously switching between day/night). Zosi does provide firmware updates and I updated my boxes. Unfortunately, the updated software only makes things worse (does no one bother to do even the most cursory of testing/QA anymore?). Also, be prepared to lose everything when you upgrade the firmware. If you spent hours configuring alarms, recording schedules, sensitivity areas, etc. (and it will take hours if you have several cameras), you will have to start all over again each time you upgrade the firmware. As an added bonus, the documentation is non-existent or in broken English. Even if you never read documentation (I rarely do), you will need to know a couple of things; like when a setting has a range, is it increasing or decreasing with larger values, etc. You can find some documentation online and YouTube videos but these all suffer from the same problem. I ve been doing hardware and software engineering for decades and have worked on some of the most complex electrical, computer and networking systems and it still took me an inordinate amount of time and trial-and-error to get the software/hardware set up. You are going to have to change port forwarding on your router, install phone and PC apps and configure network connections (this is typical for an Internet server so if you aren t comfortable doing this with little or no instruction you are going to have problems). Further, you have to configure the device directly through its interface (you can t do it remotely through an app/web interface). Considering all the cable runs for the cameras, the DVR will likely be located far from a desk/monitor so you are going to be standing in a closet for hours setting up it up. What s more, many of the functions (like searching for activity) can only be accessed directly through the DVR interface. So you can t use a PC or phone/tablet to review video (more standing in the closet). This is anything but plug-and-play!Then there is Zosi Support. Given all the dubious reviews, I tested my first box as best I could before installing it (i.e. plugged in all the cameras, verified basic settings, tested the cell phone and PC app worked, etc.). I then physically installed all the cameras (a time consuming process running cables, mounting, etc.) only to have the aforementioned functionality issues discovered once in production use. Further, while the VGA connector worked while connected to a computer monitor (during initial testing), the HDMI output didn t work (the output is all pink as others have experienced a bad pin). Given all the problems (false alarms, configuration settings having no impact, HDMI not working, etc.), I assumed the DVR hardware had issues and contacted Zosi (you can do this through their support web page and email exchanges). Zosi support begins with a robo-email asking for proof of purchase, model number, serial number, etc. Once you provide that, you will be asked for photos of the box and the problem (good luck taking pictures of false alarms). After that you will have several email conversations describing the problem and arguing over its cause followed by requests for more pictures. After that you will have several email conversations regarding resolution. Each conversation will take 1-2 days so be prepared for a couple of weeks of debate, taking photos, testing software versions, and exchanging model/serial numbers, etc. After 3 weeks, I was able to return the box (I paid for shipping and no RMA number was provided so you return the box at your cost not knowing if it will ever be replaced and with no recourse). Ultimately, I did get a new box. Alas, it had the exact same problems (bad HDMI (which I tested with multiple cables), unusable motion detection, etc.).The DVR costs $48. Until they fix the software problems, it is useless and you will spend days figuring that out (The time you waste is worth way more than the value of this box). Zosi s newer (36 LED) cameras may have solved the IR switching problem (I don t know). But, these cameras are not usable in populated areas. Noisy outdoor environments and enough distance from people may mask the problem, but all the on/off switching is likely to cause the cameras to fail prematurely (it s probably not good for your electric bill either). 1Don't forget to purchase a hard drive I like this camera system alot... especially for the price. I've had this for about 10mos. The picture quality is not good enough to read license plates, and will show facial clarity at about 10ft out. I bought this system to see if a.) we really needed one b.) does cost affect what we might see. I like that we can see what is going on around our house even remotely. The cameras can be very obvious, so I think they are a great deterrent especially since you can see the IR lights at night. The only thing we caught so far was someone breaking into the neighbor's car for change. We were able to make out the dog and that was about it as they were about 20ft away in the dark. 4Great performance, poor installation documentation Great package for the price. I did a quick hookup to see if everything works right. I unpackaged just one camera and hooked it up and tried to see it on my iPhone, which is what I bought it for. After a day or two of reading between lines and just hacking my way through, I got it all hooked up and can view my cameras from 160 miles away on my iPhone or any computer. I had the one camera in my living room while I was setting it up, and it kept clicking. I finally realized that it was going between daylight and nighttime viewing. My living room was dimly lit and simulated dusk. Pretty cool, actually. I only gave 4 stars because of the user manual and online videos (which is what most of this company uses for installation documentation). I was immediately struck by the language problems. Also, there are obvious procedural handicaps in the manual (if you can actually call it that). You have to go to several youTube videos to see the hookup procedure. There is no phone number to call, only emails. There are several problems I encountered that are simple and could be explained in a user manual. But this product does not offer that. With a good user manual and "problems" section, I would have given this product a 5 star rating. You have to download Zozi View onto your computer or iPhone. Then you have to add cameras. Then you click on the camera and then click preview. It all works fine, but the setup is very difficult and requires reading between the lines and just hacking through it. Also, I turned the system off once, and then tried to get it back on my iPhone, but it said something like "network not working." I finally went through the "test" thing on the "setup", and it worked. Lots of stuff here that is not explained anywhere from Zosi. Anyway, for the price, 8 cameras/8 channels, with 60-foot cable per camera, and iPhone connectivity via WiFi, it's a good deal. I can now click on my iPhone anywhere in the U.S. and see my stuff. Picture quality is between good and excellent. Night vision is also good to excellent. One other problem was connecting the new 3 terabyte hard drive I bought to save videos. There is no instruction to show how to connect to a hard drive. After several hours looking for other stuff, I accidentally found the "local configuration" button on Zosi View that allows you to point to the directory to record to. All in all, this system performs excellently. It just needs better installation manuals and feedback. 4Minor tips/caveats but definitely worth it's 4.2 star rating! I had a pair of Foscam units but this package is far more sophisticated. Two caveats: 1) You need to begin the setup process with a monitor and a mouse hooked directly up to the DVR so the initial setup/hard drive formatting - you can't do it through your WiFi. 2) One of my 8 cameras arrived DOA. Being a Amateur radio operator (KG0WX), I felt confident investigating as the cameras have no anti-tamper seals and are easy to take apart as the housing simply screws apart. I found that inside the housing is a bag of silica drying agent to prevent fogging but it had knocked the main connector off the camera board. I also found the O ring seal around that board instead of in it's groove in the housing. Easy fix! The LED board is a common Ebay part and can be replaced when the LED's get weak in a few years. The night vision is double the Foscam's capabilities (and those were impressive in their own right). These will cover about half of a typical yard with full illumination and a lit cigarette looks like a road flare! Remember to set up port forwarding for this in your router, TCP 37777, UDP 37778 and HTML 80. Once I did that it came alive and when I hooked up a monitor to the VGA port I was really impressed with the sophistication of the system and the features, like how you can designate where in the view of the camera the motion detector will or won't look. Not for the non techie so if you don't know what TCP/IP means you might want to think of hiring a Nerd to help you get this online. I also noted on my now repaired camera #8 that that cable had no strain relief in the mount so if you tug on the cable it might unplug inside the camera..... 5I found the performance of the original 4 camera set up to be so good that I did not hesitate on purchasing 4 more ...How do you beat it camera wire and power supply. for aprox $17 bucks each. Using these to expaned a Zosi DVR system from 4 to 8 camera. I found the performance of the original 4 camera set up to be so good that I did not hesitate on purchasing 4 more cameras. If you can find something that offer this performance at a better price I want to know .5Pretty good picture; Will most likely need extra wire. They work pretty good. We put them up with a general amount of ease. Had to buy extra wires to put them where they need to be but other than that we have been recommending them to friends and family. When they see them they are impressed and are looking into buying them as well.4CameraIt works okay but night vision is horrible you can only see 10 feet away also it's not the same cameras that came with the system these cameras wire recommended for my system but I would not waste my time I am returning it2Easy installation, Missing 3 minutes of vital video The clarity of the images seems pretty good compared to another 4 camera system I have running. I am struggling a bit with mobile viewing, but I think that is an issue with my port forwarding. The app, for Android, seems a little clunky as it does not allow logins sometimes that work other times. We just finished installing these last week and two days ago we come home to find our backdoor was open. After clearing the house before allowing my family in, I went to review the tape. Well, the mouse is a bit difficult, it may be my surface, but I was able to find the time we left last to verify the door was indeed locked. Upon review, there is 3.5 minutes of video missing. It jumps 3 minutes and those three minutes are when the door was opened. A little unsettling since the entire point of these were to protect a battered woman and her family from her ex-husband. That all said, I have heard the occasional click in the hard drive, brand new "https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0088PUEPK/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_1", WD Blue 1TB, I am thinking it was somehow the hard drive. I am going to replace the drive with a SSD and continue to play with the setup of the mobile viewing. I have not tried tech support yet, so I am unsure the help I may be able to get from them. I will come back after a month or so to update the review if anything has changed. 4Great camerasWe have purchased 2 sets of these cameras. We are pleased with their function. We bought our second set of cameras (for a total of 8 now) in April. Early this month the power adapter from the second set started making a humming noise and made the camera image wavy. I contacted the seller and told them the problem and they promptly sent me a replacement adapter and all is well now. We are pleased with the product and especially pleased with the customer service!5OK but not great. ZOSI 4PK 1920TVL 1080P 4-in-1 HD TVI/CVI/AHD/CVBS Security CameraYou get what you pay for. You have to have a decent amount of light for them to switch from night black and white to daytime color.4Get what you pay forWorked for little past month just enough so that I couldn't return them :( ..ordered Early August.. By today Sept. 27th only 1 of the 4 cameras are working, have 16 camera DVD with different brand cameras, some are over 8 years old (adt). I tried these because they are cheap.. When it comes to surveillance you get what you pay for. I don't know if rain is what effected them. Had a few showers roll through over past month.2Had a problemWe had a problem with the set of four we purchased. But customer service made it good. I would buy from them again. Doris was wonderful.5Outdated software, No longer compatible with Google So I purchased the security camera system to install around my home. I have decided to return it back to Amazon for a series of reason. But as far as the price goes you honestly cannot really complain, It's a good deal. So I thought black cameras would look good on my home I was wrong, white is definitely going to blend in better. The cameras are in fact outdoor rated. However when you read the instruction manual. It clearly says that the cables need to be protected from water and sunlight. This means that all of your camera wires need to be run inside of conduit. Unless you're running the cables in the attic, for me I have a mobile home so I must use conduit. Installing a hard drive in the DVR was extremely easy the holes and everything line up perfectly, I was shocked with this being such a cheap system. I was using an old hard drive from my gaming PC and the formatting process was super easy no problems at all.The cameras are 720p the night vision is okay. Looks like it's snowing outside when it's raining but you still have some visibility. Honestly I wanted the cameras to have the capability to read license plates. These cameras really can't read license plates at all. So I'm going to try higher quality cameras such as 1080p. Hopefully with better resolution I'll be able to actually see more clearly. The software itself has some decent features, The setup process completely sucks you have to click absolutely everything with a mouse. The software itself is outdated and does not work. Google has upgraded its security so trying to setup Emails are impossible with Google and several other email providers. As a web designer, I logged into my cPanel and created a email address using one of my domains. I was able to successfully get the email feature working by doing so. I wanted to security cameras setup so that whenever motion Is detected. I would receive an email. The photograph included in the email would be used for law enforcement purposes in the event that my DVR would be stolen by burglars. However the image that I included is extremely low resolution 352x288. This makes trying to use an email as a backup for records useless. The remote viewing app I was never able to successfully install. I setup an no-ip account and waited 24 hours for the verification process to take place. No-IP does not activate instantly. After I successfully installed no IP on the system I was still unable to login using the app. I tried installing the app on both my android smartphone and desktop computer. Both attempts failed. I tried for more than two days probably at least 12 hours to get the software setup with no success. If you want this system for just monitoring around your house without any kind of remote access then go for it. But if you want remote access buy a more expensive system with up-to-date software. I really like the system. But I just need access to remote viewing. So if I'm out of town I can check in on things. 4Really good multi camera system The only qualm I have with the system is the mobile app. Otherwise it is excellent. Easy to set up, somewhat simple interface except you can only use a mouse. Easy to add a traditional SATA hard drive to. 8 channels is great for full coverage around my home. The 65 foot cables were plenty to place them around my 2,000 sqft home. I swapped 2 bullet cams for dome style in side the house because I wanted a much wider viewing angle. The system is great and easy to play back what has been recorded. The mobile app is nearly flawless for live view, but pretty crappy for playback especially when scrubbing through a portion of time. The app always seems to bring me back to the time in which I started trying to look through. I replaced my Arlo cameras with this set because I needed ones that record all the time. These do great for what I want and need. Now I can keep an eye on my property incase my insane neighbors try to trespass again or let my dogs out of my fence for no reason. 4Solid systemI've had a full 8 camera system for about 3 months now no issues whatsoever didn't even have to call tech support to set it up I can view everything from my phone or on the ginormous TV in my room AKA my kids hate it no more lying homies. picture quality depends on the type of cameras you order I ordered nice cameras I get great picture quality I have used the cheaper cameras they're not bad at all.5Works in the Cold -47FI got this to stop petty theft. I have four 1280TVL camera's in areas where it is not a "hot spot" and the four 1920TVL that came with this kit.Pros ~ We just had our coldest winter, -47F way below that with wind chill, all of these that I have set up are under and easement. So they are out of direct weather. ~ The viewing angle on the 1920TVL is quite a bit better then the 1280TVL.I have the 1280TVL covering the windows from the outside. it covers about 10ft out from it.the 1920TVL is covering a 4 car parking garage. the Night vision works well to show the whole lot. ~ It has about 2 weeks record time for the 6 cameras I have running 24/7.The cons- ~ The cables included are short. 60Ft, I had to order the 100Ft ones. They are not strong cables, do not use to pull them. I ran then in a 3/4 Conduit piping.~ the user interface is a tad bit confusing, there are no popup words when hovering over the buttons. It's all guess work.~ You will have to set the restitution on the system and it sticks. I changed monitors and had to reset it.Improvements I would like to see made, I have to use a 3 outlets to power all the devices, I think it might be better to have a higher power device and have the power come from the DVR.But if you are like me and were wondering if this system will work in the snowy cold, cold, cold, then this will work for you.5
