Heavy Duty Product for your Antenna & Peace of mind for Homeowners. Heavy Duty product I understand this will work with a Lightening surge arrestor that is inline and replaceable. (according to my installer) My installer installed 8 ft of Copper Ground rod and buried it in a shovel full of Rocksalt to make a good ground. He says thats what they do in the Marine Corp to guarantee a good ground.. 5Very high quality surge protector The quality of this device is exceptionally good, very well made, exactly as pictured. Since it does not have "Made in China" plastered all over it or the packaging I will assume it is made in the states, which I wish it would say, would be nice. The unit was installed in-line on 75 ohm antenna down-lead, downstream from grounding block (used a F Male to F Male coupler) and then grounded to nearby ground rod using enclosed ring lug (crimp to user-supplied wire) This surge protector did not have any noticeable effect on signal quality or strength and allows pass-through DC for a mast-mounted signal amplifier. The surge protection function is a tried and true gas discharge element, time will tell if it does the job or not, but from the build quality and simple design I have very high confidence this will protect my equipment better than retail power-strip style coax surge protectors. 5Parts Missing They dont supply or tell you that you will need a male to male F connector to install it. Just FYI, there are more of these on Amazon for 1/5 the cost. Also, for it to work properly, you must run a ground cable to an earth ground somewhere. 2Lacks parts This device requires a short length of Cable or a gender changer to attach to the antenna. Wilson did send me one free of charge but I suggest that the cable or gender changer be shipped with the surge protector as I had to delay install. Also the protector is supposed to be attached to 10 Gauge copper wire. 10 G copper bare wire is not very available to home owner at the local supply houses as the only wire I could find was 10 G stranded wire which is a green plastic coated wire.The protector does have the ability to replace the internal part however it does not reference the part number in the install sheet. The part would have to be replaced should it be destroyed by a lightning strike. It would be helpful to know about the replacement part at the time of purchase so that a spare could be ordered at the same time as the purchase. 3Not Weather Proof? The guy at Wilson Electronics told me to protect the connections AND the surge protector from the elements. It seems odd that a surge protector meant for external use isn't tough enough to be outside. So think about how you can protect this little guy when you make your purchase. 4Product did not fit the product it was sold to me to protect. Was suggested to buy the product from Amazon and it did not even fit the set up of the $900 4G LTE amplifier that I purchased. 1I guess it's okay. If the fuse blows it'll ... I guess it's okay. If the fuse blows it'll be a real pain to replace it since it's at the peak of my roof, but they said to install it near the antenna before it goes into the building, so that's where it is. I will say it looks bullet proof. I think it's stainless steel and it's solid. Time will tell. 3Lightning is not your friend. Easy to install, good insurance to static charge problems around lightening strikes. This will bleed off a static charge or near strike and save your amplifier. It will blow out completely if hit directly and may save your system, but with direct strikes you rolls your dice and you take your chances.To greatly improve your chances install this system in line with your antenna close to the antenna with the cables going directly down to the surge supressor and the ground wire (little fitting on top in the photo) going straight down to the ground. I will drive a short rebar or attach to the com ground rod on a cable system. The trick is to mount the device so that it is with the ground fitting on the side and the threaded parts pointing straight up and down. Lightning does not like to turn, it wants to go straight to ground. So if you have little or no bending of the coax from the antenna to the surge unit, and little to no bending going straight to ground the unit most likely will take a major hit with no problems.lightning can ignore a 90 degree bend in a ground wire to jump off and straight to ground down a wall, it is that picky. When it does that the ground wire goes to a very high potential to ground for a micro second, enough to cancel a lot of the surge protection. Mount it vertical with a straight to ground as possible ground wire and you should be fine.The WeBoost amps are very sensitive receivers, they really should be protected. Most Sat Tv systems are installed with protectors, but not as good as this one. This one is top quality and functions much better than most on the market. 5Don't install cell phone booster system without one of these. If you are putting any antenna on the outside of your house or any other building you need a Lightning Arrestor, which is what this product is.To be clear, these do not protect against a direct lightning strike, but they do protect against the electromagnetic energy that is generated when a lightning strike occurs in the vicinity (within a few miles radius) of the antenna. A direct lightning strike will destroy the antenna and the electronic equipment with or without an arrestor.A lightning strike in the area of an antenna produces a large electromagnetic field that the antenna picks up and converts to electrical energy which is then transmitted down the coax cable to the electronics in the amplifier. Without an arrestor the electricity produced by the strike can burn out components in the electronics.This is a 75 ohm lightning arrestor and should be used with 75 ohm coax and 75 ohm antennas. The arrestor has female "F" connectors, which are the common coax connectors used for television antennas and cable TV. If you have a 50 ohm booster system do not use this product - a 75 ohm arrestor on a 50 ohm system will cause a large signal loss and defeat the purpose of the booster.These arrestors are easy to install, just connect the antenna coax to one side and another coax to the booster on the other side. Then connect a ground wire to the ground terminal on the arrestor and run it to a ground rod or to your cold water pipe were it enters the building, whichever is closer (it's important to keep the ground wire as short and direct as possible).I got this to go with Wilson Electronics - DB Pro - Cell Phone Signal Booster for Large Home or Office - Includes Directional Antenna from Amazon and the system really does work. I live here in Arizona hot homestead using a signal booster to get internet. the storms can be electrifying so to protect my expensive signal booster is a must. 5
