    Overpriced unusable junk. I ordered this soldering station on Nov. 4, 2015, but had to request a return and refund because the flexible neck was too weak to hold the magnifier in any usable position. Thinking this was a fluke and due to all the great reviews, I ordered a second one on November 9th, 2015 and this one was even worse than the first one with an even weaker flexible neck. Unfortunately I had an emergency and had to spend over a month in the hospital, missing the 30 day return window on both of them. Not Amazon's fault, but I've been stuck with $100 worth of defective and unusable garbage and cannot recommend this junk to anyone except to stay away! If anyone has any suggestions on how to make these work other than wrapping the flexible neck with duct tape or something, please let me know. Thanks. 1Be Careful... Made in China Be careful... I had high hopes for this product, but was greatly disappointed. The flexible tubing that connects the magnifying glass to the base was so weak that it would not support its own weight. I sent it back and ended up purchasing a separate LED lite magnifying glass and made my own "helping hands" from this fantastic Instructables link: http://m.instructables.com/id/Third-Hand-A-multi-use-helping-hand-for-electro/ 1Flexible neck won't stay up The concept for this design is good, but the execution is poor. The flexible neck holding the magnifier/LED is too weak/too flexible to hold a position that you try to place it in. If not for that primary function it might be a useful tool. As it is, don't waste your money find something with better quality. I don't understand why the reviews are so high, manufacturing must lack consistency (quality) in the parts used. Should have been supplied with an AC adapter for that price too. 1Don't buy this for the LED lamp Overall, the construction feels good. The base is heavy, the helping hands are a bit finicky but not too difficult to work with. The LED lamp is a different story though. The lamp can be powered either by 4x AA Batteries, or a 6v barrel power supply (not included). The problem though is there's no voltage regulation, and the lamp is basically useless if you use rechargeable batteries, or even slightly used ones. The best solution is to buy a 6v power supply, or even one slightly higher if you're brave (Higher voltages = brighter LEDs but they'll burn out faster).Personally, I jerry rigged mine by replacing the 4x AA battery pack with a 7v power supply, and so far so good. There's no complex circuitry and ample space in the lamp, making DIY projects easy. 4Pretty decent quality but you pay for the AC adapter ConsumerADVOCATE use report- overall, a pretty well constructed soldering station. The magnifier is high quality with bright LEDs. The iron holder is adjustable, and the 3 holding arms are fairly well located. The accessories supplied like the tip cleaner is marginal quality. Negatives include a poorly located on-off switch located behind the helping hands, and a lack of supplied external power supply. For the price, an AC adapter should be supplied. 4OK I have never felt like writing a review after receiving an order but this ... OK I have never felt like writing a review after receiving an order but this really needs to be said...Like you I have spent countless hours looking for a 3rd hand helper station only to find 5 or more companies peddling the same junky 3rd hand helper for 8-10$. I didn't know what to do there was nothing in between that mess and paying upscale for this one, but you can't solder a board or wires when your 3rd hand is tipping over. So I ordered this model and it was non of the above. It was shipped well, got it fast, and nothing broken. The base of the stand is equal to about 4 of the cheap kind in weight and surface area and they were smart by putting the solder coil holder and AA battery compartment in the back for even more weight balance. I buy my solder in spools so this is great. The little black object on the T-bar is the solder feeder if anyone needs to know. I removed the solder holder because I prefer to use the one that came with my 888-D.The Only assembly is to unloosen to very nice stainless phillips head screws in the back and sway out the solder bar brackets;do this first but do not put on the reel till you put the batteries in. Other than that your are good to go....set out your sponge and golden wool and extra flux and rock on!On the last note the lamp and the LED lights were outstanding and had a better quality glass than even my desk top reader has installed.Sorry guys no bad news on this one. If you want the real deal, here it is....You get what you pay for....and for me that meant no hassle 3rd hand setup with illuminated magnification. You may feel a little hesitant to pop for one but it will not disappoint.. 5Top of the line Extremely well-made, well thought-out, and very practical implementation period has a heavy bass so it doesn't move around a large magnifying glass. It also has a rack for solder to roll off of and a guide for Sauder plenty of clamps. All in all the best soldering fixture I've ever had and I've been doing it for 60 years. Buy it! 5Quality Soldering Station I love this soldering station. It has a nice weight to it to keep it in place on your bench. It's made out of metal, not plastic. The lighted magnifier works well and stays put. I knocked off one star for the following reasons: the sponge that came with it is almost as thin as a piece of paper making me wonder why it was included at all, and it would've been nice had an AC adapter been included with it. Other than that, I highly recommend this unit. 4Cool little soldering station Cool little soldering station, the glass is on the heavy side and the neck is a bit weak, so the magnifying glass doesn't stay in place and the gravity takes over. I also wish it came with an AC adapter for the light, because I plan to use this soldering station on my desk most of the time. I would move it to another house once in a while, so the built in light also accept AA batteries, which is nice. The helping hands, however, I found to be a bit too close to everything else. 45 stars for usefulness, 4 for extras This soldering station is pretty great. I love the magnifying lens for getting a close up look at what I'm working on and the LED's are very good quality.The helping hands are great, I find they can be hard to tighten sometimes especially if my fingers are warm but they tighten down pretty stiff. The jaws do grip a little hard so I added some shrink tube to keep the teeth from digging into wires etc. I found the spool on the back for wire to not be super useful but its a nice touch.The flux I received was solid as a rock but I was not expecting much. The brass ball is very useful along with the cleaning sponge. It does have a power port for external power but doest not include the wire, however the battery works just as well and does not drain very fast at all.Overall loved this and being able to know project is secure and your soldering iron is not going to fall over is great. 5
