Customer Reviews

WD drives have never let me down. Great 6TB product. I bought a diskless Western Digital PR4100 and loaded it with two of these in a RAID 1 configuration. The stocked versions of the PR4100 either didn't have the size of drive I wanted or the "pro" level disk that I wanted. Everything was plug n' play. Works great. I've had these drives in the PR4100 for about 3 months now. All good. 5Great drive. But it comes with an MBR (master ... Great drive. But it comes with an MBR (master boot record) and you'll have to rewrite as GPT to access the full size of the drive! 5A little expensive, but totally worth it for my needs I purchased this drive is a large storage drive. I wanted to consolidate a number of smaller drives. It was also important to me that the driver have a fast transfer speed because I anticipate moving large files around. Because of Amazon's penchant for lumping the views of 1 GB and 6 GB drives together, I ordered and canceled several because I expected 7200 RPM, which I saw in the 1 GB drives, but when I ordered my 6 GB drive I ended up with the 5400 RPM. And 64 MB cache. So, to summarize, this is a 6 TB SATA III 7200 RPM 128 MB cache 5 year warranty Western Digital Red.I was concerned that a 7200 RPM drive would be noisy. I cannot hear this drive. It is wicked fast at over 200 MB per sec. when reading and writing from my Samsung Evo 950 M.2. I have attached a screenshot of a speed test. This drive is only about $30 cheaper than a similarly sized Western Digital Black, but is very similar performance characteristics. I have a couple of large capacity external drive so I expect this to be the last spinner I will ever have to buy. 5Nice improvement over 5400RPM drives - no surprises or issues Drives are fast and reliable. No issues unpacking or using the drives. I would recommend these drives as a good upgrade from the slower and smaller cache equivalent drives. 5Solid, Heavy, Slightly Noisy NAS drives The WD Red Pro 4TB NAS drives are heavy, robust feeling drives, that weigh probably 30% more than regular desktop drives. They make a bit of noise when the spin up, or when they are writing data, but are otherwise quiet. I'm using two in a software RAID 1 configuration in a PC, and for a few days, they weren't synching properly according to Disk Management. That seems to have been fixed, now, so all's good. Now to see how long they last! 4Speedy and stable Used these in a new Synology NAS and they spun up perfectly and have been working well for the past 3 months. The 7200RPM has added some speed to the transfer rates as well. 5Western Digital was storage that I avoided like the plague In the distant past, Western Digital was storage that I avoided like the plague! But it has been years since multiple catastrophic failures so I thought I would give them another chance..I Bought 10 of these and have been beating them up with some heavy 4K editing/encoding/rendering workloads for almost a year and they haven't so much as blinked ! My impression of WD has been revised! 5Great expensive drives. 3.63TB available storage I have been a long time buyer of western digital drives. I hesitated going the cheaper route and getting a white label NAS drive instead but obviously opted not to. A 5-year warranty is OK, not great, but definitely not 1. These PRO drives also come with the WD proprietary firmware NASWare 3.0 which should hopefully work as intended and extend the life of the drive.Note: Amazon advertises the 4TB PRO drive as a 64MB Cache drive (as of 2/7/2018). The 4TB PRO drives are 128MB cache, not 64. The 2TB are 64. Zoom in on the drive labels in their photos and you can see the cache sizes in the top right of the label. The drives definitely seem to perform very well and have great access times and transfer speeds. Right out of the box you will be looking at 3.63TB of storage, not 4TB. For those that are unaware how that works, it's normal and correct. One thing I have noticed with these drives is that they are not completely silent. I do hear a slight noise as it accesses the drive and then it's silent again.I will be using this drive for activities that require continuous access and reading / writing almost 24/7 of large data files. 4WD Red Pro 6TB (WD6002FFWX) have performed flawlessly and include a 5 year warranty should trouble arise. Highly Recommended. This WD Red Pro 6TB drive (WD6002FFWX) is the newer version of the discontinued WD Red Pro 6TB drive (WD6001FFWX) . Congratulations on finding this one on Amazon, as at the time of this review Amazon still has it listed as simply "Western Digital Computer NAS Hard Drive 128 MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare or OEM Drives" with no mention of WD Red Pro 6TB in the title. A search for WD Red Pro 6TB only brings up the discontinued model and several marketplace sellers trying to exploit the search confusion by almost doubling the retail price of the older model. I have reported to Amazon the confusing and non-descriptive title for the newer model.I am running multiples of these WD Red Pro 6TB drives (WD6002FFWX) in a large (and newer) Asustor NAS device. They are performing flawlessly so far in a RAID 10 configuration. The included five year warranty for these Pro drives is a nice additional benefit.I highly recommend WD Red Pro drives for their intended use with NAS devices. 5Bad Sectors 4TB Model I purchased five (5) of the 4TB (WD4002FFWX) only a few months ago and put them in a Synology NAS for home personal use, which gets little use, so far TWO (2) have developed bad sectors, Western Digital has warranty them, but I am not too happy having to go through the warranty process and replacing hard drive's. I also purchased two (2) of the 2TB (WD2002FFSX) about the same time, and put them in anther Synology NAS that is being used in a business environment, and have not had any issue with them yet. And three (3) of the 8TB (WD8001FFWX) in yet anther Synology NAS in a business environment, and they too have not had issues. I am just having a run of bad luck with the 4TB model.07-28-18 update, yet anther of the 4TB (WD4002FFWX) have failed, bad sector count =15, getting anther RMS from WD now. Now three have failed, on 11-13-17, and 01-19-18, and now 07-28-18. 3
