Just about right for a hiking at nightThis light may or may not be bright enough for you as it depends on what you are using it for. I use this red flashlight for walking on a trail at night with other people. We use red so as not to kill night vision. With a bright white light, your eye adapts to the lit-up spot where the flashlight hits the ground and then you can't see the dark areas off to the sides. But with a not-overbright red light, you can see all around you. I hold this light about below waist high in my hand aimed so the illuminated spot hits my feet and 6 ro 8 fet in front of me. So the light only has to reach between 2 and 8 feet. With the focus set to "wide" and just an Eneloop 1.2 volt rechargeable AA battery the light is just the right brightness in "high". But with a 3.7-volt battery I need to turn the light to "low" setting.I have not yet tested the burn time with a full battery but after a two-hour hike with white 1.2V 1900 mah battery, the light had not dimmed at all.About the color, the lens is clear and the color is made by the LED itself. I don't know the wavelength but the color is very saturated and seems to be the best shade of red for my purpose, I think they hit the color dead-on.As for build quality. It is better then one would expect for a $9 flashlightThis is NOT the light you want if you want to see 50 yards in the distance at night. but is perfect if you want to avoid stepping in hoes or tripping over rocks while retaining to the ability to see the un-lit surrounding5Not durable or long-lasting (cheap manufacturing)Packed this flashlight as my backup reserve for my vehicle. Used it for a stroll one night and it flickered out. Have had this flashlight for over a year and used it probably two dozen times. When the flashlight flickered out this last time, I thought it was the battery. When I switched the battery, the light didn't come back on. However, the aluminum casing was heating up, indicating that instead of working properly, there was potentially a short circuit in the wiring. Sure enough, I found the board hadn't been properly secured inside the flashlight, causing a piece of the wire to make contact with the aluminum case.This flashlight looks like it has all the makings of a good, sturdy red flashlight but it actually doesn't. Buyer beware.1This worked great! The light is very bright and makes seeing ...I'm a pediatric nurse and I bought this in hopes that it could help me find veins on hard to stick kids. There are similar products available from healthcare sites that are considerably more expensive. This worked great! The light is very bright and makes seeing veins on pudgy toddlers a breeze. I really didn't want to spend too much on this item: I just wanted a functional red flashlight.I've tried 2 other red flashlights before this one:1. The first one had 7 red LEDs...then 2 stopped working..then another 2... until I had 1 lone red LED. I sent that one back. Thanks Amazon for your great return policy2. The second one wasn't really a red flashlight at all . Instead, it was a normal flashlight with a red cap over the lens. The fish were NOT fooledThis Wayllshine has worked great with no issues at all. The price was right and delivery was right to schedule and the fish barely pay attention to the light.The only caveat is that every third time you turn it on, the flashlight goes into a disco-type flashing mode. I'm pretty sure that this is an intentional but so-not-needed feature4A must have for hunting or home defenseThese things are amazing, blinding bright with focus adjustments. I got some rechargeable batteries for them which I highly recommend large capacity, these things eat power. Three different settings per button push, one setting is brighter then the other and last one is a strobe. In between each setting is off which allows you to leave it ready for what ever one you want to use. Had it in woods already and can easily see 50 yards plus with the little beam adjustment going deep into the woods. I have these setting next to the bed set up on strobe, without a shadow of a doubt it will blind any intruder. For the price, you would be foolish not to get a few different colors.5Sometime a great flashlight. Warranty worthless.Very nice red flashlight when it is working correctly. Unfortunately, that is not all the time. Some times the 3 mode function fails and it gets stuck in dim constant light mode.I considered contacting the seller until I discovered the warranty requires buyer to pay shipping both ways for replacement. Since that would cost more than the whole new price I decided it was a worthless warranty.2Great quality, poor user interface First of the quality of the product is great no doubt about it, solid construction, True Red LED, Really strong light, Superb optics, AA battery support. I just hope the switch will last, time will tell. I use it daily several times at night for short periods ... so why the three stars? I wish it would remember the light setting!!! Every time I have to switch it off I have to soft press the on/off switch twice so the next time I turn it on it will be at the desired setting. In my case I need it at low intensity, so to turn it off have to soft switch to annoying blinking, then high intensity and then off ... every-time!! 3WAYLLSHINE zoomable scalable CREE LED light - RED: a useful astronomy accessoryA nice night-time accessory for astronomy (reading charts, finding dropped items, avoiding power cords, so forth).Illuminates nicely while preserving night vision.Zoom feature is nice, provides everything from a tight focus to a broad expanse of light.Uses a single AA battery, a rechargeable batt seems to work just fine if not a little dimmer. Perfect for my uses.A 150 yard range is a stretch for 200 lumens, especially in these color spectrums (R-G-B). You might be able to see a colored dot at night-time from 150 yards, maybe. Expect a useable range of 150 feet.Note: The "3 Mode" applies to a more expensive variant of this light, not to this one specifically or to the blue or green LED versions; the 3 Mode feature applies only to a 4th flashlight that costs twice as much as the "single-mode" Red, Blue, or Green flashlight.4Handy light, but not quite 150 yards (not that you need that in a RED light!) Useful for astronomy obversations, the red light preserves your night vision.However, 150 yards is a stretch, by quite a bit. Expect more like 150 FEET. Calling the light "tactical" is also more novelty than actual real-world use. Pretty sure it was added to the title to get more clicks.Nonetheless, it works great for my purposes.The version I received has 3 settings, as advertised. Full/Half/Strobe. The strobe seems useless to me and is more annoying to click through than practical. Seems it only adds to the stress on the power button; hopefully manufacturer will drop this useless feature in the future.The zoom is a nice feature that allows you to cast a circle about 6-7 feet wide at 6 feet, or focus to a square of about 6x6" at 6'.Works well with a rechargeable NiMH AA battery. 4WAYLLSHINE Scalable Blue LED 3 Mode Long Range Blue Beam Blue Light Flashlight - a quick evaluationI have a neighbor who doesn't water his patio plants. I asked if I could do it for him and obtained permission. I prefer to do it under the cover of night so people don't see me doing so and ask why I'm watering my neighbor's plants. But at night it's quite dark there, and I can hardly make out the two main containers I'm concerned with. So I need a flashlight that won't disturb either my neighbor or raise suspicion in the complex, in case anyone's up and notices the flashlight beam. I'd hoped this flashlight would do the trick...but it's got a problem. I'd researched blue flashlights with narrow beams. So I went with what turned up. The dark blue light works fine, but the beam is too wide. I'm working on blacking out some of the lens so as to get a narrower throw. If I'm successful in doing that, I'll be happy with the product. As for evaluating "battery life" up above: The flashlight came with no battery, so I had to supply my own. And as I'm just beginning to use it, I have no indication as to how long the battery will last. Actually, I don't need to keep the flashlight on during the whole watering period--just need to see where the stream needs to be aimed, start the flow, then turn off the light. So the battery will probable last quite a while.4Beware the lens on the UV version Works for my purposes (I just wanted the purple shell to put another UV LED into), but the lens doesn't actually pass much in the UV range at all. For the "ooh it's purple" color, I suppose it would be useful, but you aren't going to get a hair under that 395nm at any kind of level to use as a detection blacklight.If you want a purple color, it works. If you want UV, look for another flashlight (make sure it has a glass or better, fused quartz window, esp if you need UVB output). 3would not recommend for aspiring nurses.i'm a nurse (5+ years)... i purchased this to be used in a pediatric population, and i was hoping this would be comparable to the overpriced wee light... it's not... the strength of the light just isn't strong enuff. it has multiple bulbs, but i think the issue is the strength that the light comes out... plus, hold that is more difficult and awkward i feel, compared to a smaller, more manageable wee light shape & handle.3Read this before you buy So here s the deal with this flashlight...it has three modes: dim, bright, and strobe. There is no way to set it to any one setting that I have found. It cycles between the modes every time you turn it on/off, as seen in my video. Very poor design, and the reviews here are confused and misleading, as is the description of the product. After messing around with it for awhile I was able to get it to focus to a square light as advertised, but it takes lots of random twisting and turning to get do do that. If you don t mind having to turn it on and off three time to get it to the desired setting, every time you use it, you may be ok with it. And if you don t mind the inconsistently of the focus feature you might like it. I personally find it very annoying. Other than that it s bright. Cannot comment on durability as I just got it, but it does appear to be sturdy and well made.1Worked for 20 Minutes... To be fair, this flashlight seems to be pretty tough. The casing is heavy and made of metal. It works wonderfully when it did work. But with only 20 minutes of use it stopped working. Replaced the battery with a new one and it still will not work. Very disappointed. Maybe I got a defective one.It allows you to move the part closest to the bulb and change the width of area that is lit. The red light is perfect for checking your star chart while stargazing (my use) or for walking at night without compromising your night vision.There is a heavy duty metal clip on the side. The grip is useful and it is hefty for such a small flashlight.The other annoying thing is the flashing strobe feature. This light is powerful and if you are turning it on/off throughout your time outside you have to click through the flashing strobe function which can really mess with the eyes. 1Never Got a Practical Use From It I purchased this after an offshore sailing trip about a year ago. I have a headlamp with red option, but thought a red flashlight would also be nice. Received it, tested it, and was satisfied. I pulled out the battery and stashed it, safely, with my kit. I am going offshore, again and was expecting to use it for the 1st time. I put in a fresh battery. It only flickered slightly - useless. I fiddled with it, tested the battery, etc. It is dead. It was not touched or jostled during the year since I purchased it. It is cheap, but I am replacing it with a different brand.I never found flashlights to last all that long. They have a lot of points of failure. But it would have been nice to get at least a trip or two before it broke. 1
