Don't waste your money!Piece of junk, used it for 5 minutes in the water with the "waterproof case" and water got in. Now it does not work and Vtech will not honor a replacement. This was a waste of $38.00. In addition the picture quality was awful!!!1Wouldn't charge after 2 months...We purchased the Kidizoom Action Cam as a replacement for the Kidizoom Smartwatch DX we purchased for my son s birthday. Within a few months of having the Smartwatch DX, we were no longer able to charge it leaving our 5 year old son very disappointed. I contacted VTech and was told they had an agreement with Amazon that would allow us to return the item for a refund. We returned the watch; however, what was not clear in the message from VTech or Amazon is that we would be charged a restocking fee to return the defective item (we paid $50.99 for it and only received $34.45 for the refund). When I realized this was the case, I was extremely disappointed, but decided to go ahead and get a replacement birthday present with the money we had received so he would have something. We used the refund to purchase a VTech Kidizoom Action Cam - Camouflage - Online Limited Edition (purchased on Amazon - sold by VTechkids).My son LOVED the action cam. He had the best time using it on vacation at the beach, while riding his bike everywhere. However, after only two months, the exact same thing happened to the camera that happened to the watch! It wouldn t charge. We tried different cables, different places nothing. Now we can t even get the pictures and videos he took off the camera. I contacted VTech twice about our issues with the Action Cam, but never received a response.We have owned several VTech products and have always been very pleased with them and have found them very durable; however, I have been so disappointed with these items. I am sad for my son to have both his original and replacement birthday presents stop working and will certainly think twice before purchasing something else from VTech!1The kids love this. Made a horror movie!My grandaughter 10 asked for this and only this for Christmas she is an overall athlete swimmer, runner, and gymnastics. It takes good pics and video and is simple to operate I do not agree with the age range on the box. Unless you want to do everything for your child I would say 9+ than that is with experience with a digital camera. The only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is because I couldn't load directly to Facebook from the memory card but instead had to open the files in MS Movie Player and save as a WMV instead of AVI file which is the format the camera saves videos. The pictures and videos were clear. It picked up sound well and the pictures were way better then I expected based on some of the reviews. You can barely see the pictures on the screen and video forget about watching it on the screen. Yet they came out really well. See the pictures I shared. I bought a harness kit EEEKit Gift Pack For VTech Kidizoom Kid Action Cam,Head Strap Mount,Junior Child Kid Chest Body Harness Mount,Neck Strap,Storage Bag so my son could wear it and he was "embarrassed" to wear it till he saw my nieces and nephews using it. Then he was happy to use it!It was easy to use although the menu options are not intuitive.2019 Update: 2 years later and this camera is going strong. We like it so much I just ordered another for a gift. It is used intermittently (vacations) and we use it in the pool, beach, ocean and lake. It works really well and we are happy to have it on vacation. He has used it a few times at home as my son is interested in starting a youtube channel but I'm not sold on the idea. Sound works underwater and above.4so they can document as much as they like. We haven't yet left for vacation Purchased three of these (in three colors) for my grandkids, ages 4, 5, 6 to use on vacation - with the requirement that they document and make a move or slide show of our vacation. We will upload the pics and video every night, so they can document as much as they like. We haven't yet left for vacation, but I wanted to test the quality and ease of use of one of them, so I picked my grand daughter's purple one as the guinea pig.Opened the box, plugged in the camera to charge for about an hour, switched the little 0/I button to "I", inserted 32Gb SD card, and headed out. I ordered class IV cards, but the recommended speed is class VI. This doesn't seem to make any difference, the photos snap quickly, as does the video. The sound is surprisingly good, when thumb isn't covering the bottom openings. I left the quality set at Medium, thinking there might be a desire by the kids to play with the effects, which are not supported at the highest setting. If looking at the video, please keep in mind, there is thunder rumbling in the background, which I recorded intentionally, just to see what subtle sounds it can detect. The sky was rather grey, which came across nicely in the video, the colors are pretty true for the overcast sky.Both video and snapshot are okay when expanded to half screen, but not much beyond that. I should try the "high quality' settings just to see how they are, but as it stands, for $45 including sim cards, I believe these little cameras will provide hours of fun and spark creativity for aspiring artists.Will post in one of the other "colors" after we return and get some reviews from the actual users! I'd like to see how well these hold up at the beach, kayaking the sound, biking around the island and climbing lighthouses.5Junk!!!Worked 2 times. Now you can't hear the person talk. Nice wasted money and can't return.1It's like a GoPro for kids! While this isn't a perfect action camera by far, this is the perfect action camera for kids. It's easy to use. You can take it pretty much anywhere: in the air, underwater, you name it. It floats, and it's just about indestructible.'My family took it to a hotel with a swimming pool and a water park to test it out. My husband and I used it to make sure we put it through its paces, and it came through no matter what we did to it. The video included here was shot with this camera. As you can see, we took into a swimming pool and into the water. We threw it up in the air. When it landed in the water, it floated, making it easy to retrieve. We took it down a water slide. We even filmed a hot tub--underwater. We also gave it to our daughter, and her footage came out great. (The only reason why we haven't included it is that she recorded kids she met, including one kid who did a great job hamming it up under water, but we didn't want to post photos of any kids without their parents' permission.) Every time my daughter filmed, kids came up to her and asked her what she doing. When she told them she was filming them, they all said, "Cool!" Some kids asked for and were given a go. You know a toy is a good toy when every kid wants to play with it.The video quality, as you can see, is about as low as it gets, but that doesn't really matter. What does matter is that this is a great toy and that it gives little kids a chance to use a cheap action camera without any fear that it might break. Wanted to get him something different, something that would get him away from TV, video games and allow him to be creative. He loved it and is really enjoying making videos wherever he goes! He tried it in the bathtub and now can t wait to take on vacation to film underwater! Picture quality is great, seems durable, and waterproof up to 6 ft! Really quite pleased with product EXCEPT for the confusing packaging and instructions! Cmon VTech! Not everyone is tech savvy! Simple wording and pictures so that we as the adult can put your products together and show our kids how to get the most out of your great products! There are so many listed functions on this camera that I wasn t able to show my nephew because I became so frustrated with the confusing instructions. Also the way the accessories are labeled, we weren t sure what they were for. Over the years I ve bought many VTech products because I trust the name. I was really hoping that mine wouldn't be one of the 1-star reviews.I ordered this product (the green camo version) at the end of March, but didn't give it to my grandson until his graduation on May 18. With such a short warranty, I probably shouldn't have ordered it so early. It spent most of it's warranty time in a box, and now that it doesn't work any more, it's out of warranty. Extremely unsatisfied.1Excellent camera for kidsI bought this for my son, who is a budding 11yo filmmaker. He wanted a GoPro, but I decided to buy him this and get the GoPro when he's older if he's still into filmmaking. For me, I'm happy that I'm out only $40 if it breaks.
