Customer Reviews

Very useful, decent quality. I've had a bias against these configurable ND filters, but the convenience of it finally one out. The filter itself looks good, and works very nicely. It gets far darker than I would have thought possible. It also comes with a small black carrying pouch, which is very thin and fits in my camera bag easily. I really didn't think that I would like this, but I've come to appreciate the usefulness of the product. Try it out! 5Worth Having In Your Kit (just in case) I bought this filter for the 5D mk2, 24-105mm, f4 kit lens, when accessorizing to use it in video production. I've mostly been shooting inside so, I haven't yet been in a situation where I needed it for the kit lens. However, I did use this filter on some video shot in a kitchen with bright sun pouring in a window, and massive amounts of diffuse light from other windows. I manually held it over a 50mm prime (much smaller threads), and dialed in the proper exposure by eye, rather than reading the stops. This allowed me to shoot wide open, even with the flood of light, and the shots came out really nice. My only criticism is that this filter produced a slight bit of vignetting. Still it wasn't bad, especially for the price, and the customers didn't seem to notice. I've since ordered one to fit my prime lens, so I don't have to hold it in case I'm ever shooting in a similar situation. 4College Digital Photography Classroom use I'm now enjoying the Arts Classes at the Local College ..and my assignments include both studio and outside the studio projects.I'm also someone who has Retinal Detachment and partial blindness ..This particular filter ... I don't have to fumble around and look for the braille markings I added .. I just use the one filter and can adjust as needed ..I've used this on historical sites (including Civil War Era Fortifications) and the results are good.Make sure to leave enough on top/bottom and left/right to edit out some aberrations .. 4Saves space, Vivitar quality This is the tool for many tasks, from flowing water to sunspots. At the minimum setting there appears to be little difference in settings from what might be expected from a polarizing filter. With a quarter-turn, sunspots can be detected with the 300mm lens. (Just don't bother to try it beyond an hour from sunrise or sunset)The only question is color accuracy as the filter darkens. While sunspots at sunset can certainly be seen, there is a strong tendency for increasingly purple tones. As experience builds, it is expected that white balance adjustments will adequately handle the aberration. 4How dark do you want it? Variable neutral density from 2-100? Kind of extreme, but the idea of the potential is great. I don t plan to be making videos of solar eclipses nor arc welding any time soon, but when I might, I ll reach for this. 5Density was not uniform across film plane Took delivery of my Vivitar 58mm Variable Ndx Neutral Density Lens Filter and as I dialed in a higher density, the uniformity degraded terribly. At or near the max density, there were obvious 'gaps', creating bizarre patches of light and dark.Hoping this is a product defect that only occasionally rears its head and not a common problem with the Vivitar brand.Gigabargain was great to work with on the return. No problems with exchange and would not hesitate to do business with them again.Have yet to test this filter but will post results after it is used and tested. 1Disappointed I purchased this same filter for a different lens (52mm 18-55) and it works great. Unfortunately this one is not doing the trick with my 18-200 lens, at any point in its range. There are stripes of shading, the whole filter doesn't shade. There is significant color distortion, I could only hope to maybe use it for black and white. So far I have been unable to capture a sharp image even on min, almost appears to be cloudiness or haze on the inside glass between the filters. I had hoped this would be a handy filter for occassional use, but it isn't worth carrying in my camera bag. Maybe I just got a defective one. 2Artificting at higher settings. Poor execution on a nice build. As other people reported - at the highest setting - there is a "hourglass" effect. Shown in the picture below. It does a nice job at higher settings - but the noise shows up at the Max settings. 3 starts for doing 1/2 of the job.I attached a picture at max and one mid way thruBelieve the other reviews. 3Weird size, doesn't darken evenly. Not uniform darkening, not the same size on both sides. The side that screws into my lens is 67mm but the back side where my lens cap would go is larger. 1I thought the price was too good to be true for a 10 Fstop adjustable filter I thought the price was too good to be true for a 10 Fstop adjustable filter. This is an adjustable Neutral Density camera filter used to reduce the amount of light entering the camera. It is represented with a range from ND2-ND1000 (10 Fstops). It is actually a ND2-ND32 with an adjustment range of only 5 Fstops. For the price, I will keep the filter but beware if you are looking for a full 10 Fstop filter..... the labeling is wrong. 2
