Customer Reviews

I am thinking it is condensation and the heat generated by the infrared LEDs has something to do with making it just warm enough I bought this product after the previous surveillance camera that came with my Bunker Hill H. 264 surveillance camera stopped working. The old one had managed to collect enough condensation inside to where there was a mini crucible size amount of water sloshing around inside when I removed it to inspect. The seal on the last one was not broken and it is mounted on top of a horizontal roof where there is no chance of standing water around it.This product also after a period of only two months accumulated enough condensation to see a mini puddle inside the glass cover! I am thinking it is condensation and the heat generated by the infrared LEDs has something to do with making it just warm enough to such moist air in and then cool off, especially when it first starts to rain and the unit cools off quickly.I have not had time to replace it, yet, I just took of the front lense for now and it works albeit without any infrared since all the infrared LEDs appear to have failed due to moister.Given that this is occurring across two different product lines leads me to believe that with the current state of design across the board I need to install these so they do not get splashed with rain. If you choose to buy it, the picture quality is much better than my original unit from Bunker Hill, just be careful to not get water on it. 2VideoSecu Bullet Security Camera 700 TVL fills my needs for my home security system! I bought this new and improved camera to replace a similar model that failed after a few years. Since eBay does not show your complete buying history now I cannot find when I bought the previous model. I did install this new model and I do not see any difference even though it states a better resolution than the previous model. Now this may only be because of the Samsung DVR may only record at a certain resolution no matter what camera you have connected. I am not going to research it any further and plan on upgrading to a high definition system in the near future with 8 cameras instead of the 4 I have now. I can tell you I have enjoyed sitting in front of my computer monitor and having a window open on the side of the screen where I can monitor the front and back of the house while computing. I can see when packages are being delivered and usually beat the delivery guy to the door and the postman. Once you have a home or business security DVR system you will never be without again. There have been 2 instances where a neighbor had a problem and had to call the local sheriff to come out and investigate. Both times a knock at my door and the sheriff had noticed that I had cameras outside and we were able to search and find the perpetrators to close the case. More and more we see that homeowners are buying and installing these systems to protect themselves. For less than $500 you can find a 4 camera system and you can install the cameras one at a time, taking your time until you are finally happy with the system. Just do it! You'll be glad you did. 5A very good camera for a very fair price! I purchased a DVR home surveillance system about five years ago in response to things that were going on in my neighborhood. I figured that in the very least, it would help the police investigate any break-in and might help to get my stuff back. The cameras that came with that system were very basic CMOS units with small sensors and few TV lines. The resolution was poor and the color was biased towards infrared, making images recorded in bright sunshine quite disturbing with the IR-forced color shift. (I'm not a big fan of purple grass.)On occasion, I would refer back to the recordings to try and figure out when a package had been delivered or if I really put that garden tool in that strange place, and the system met my expectations. Over time, however, I came to realize that the resolution was so poor that any recording would probably not be of significant use to the police after a break-in. I did my research on upgrading and determined that I needed a camera with a larger sensor and that the sensor needed to be CCD-based. Armed with that info, I began to search for cameras that I could afford. This camera really fit the bill. It's not as good as those that I used when I worked in public safety, but these cost thousands of dollars less and offer most of that performance. The color is good during the day and the resolution in the dark under IR lighting is also very good. The larger sensor of this camera yields more TV lines, which brings greater resolution along for the ride, and the wider field of view actually allows me to overlap some of my camera zones, something that I hadn't even thought possible. Moreover, as my house is light colored with white trim, these cameras really blend in so that a casual observer will not notice, while reflecting light and heat off the camera instead of inviting it in as with a black-painted unit. Less heat buildup inside the unit should offer a greater chance of the unit holding up over time. Likewise, the metal frame and base should hold up over time much better than plastic-framed or plastic-mounted units as metal is not subject to photochemical reactions that change its basic compound or make it brittle.Overall, I am truly happy with this camera and ended up replacing all of my outdoor cameras with this model. The little extras that this camera came with including a power supply and a window sticker make it suitable for a first-time install as well as for an upgrade, and with this camera priced as low as some decoy units by other sellers, you know the price is good. 5Poor quality housing Received July 5th 2015. By mid July I had time to install it. It is secured just over 9 feet in the air.Visually looks nice, display is very good for my needs.Problem: I noticed over the past few weeks (October) that the camera started to slowly descend. I would gently push it back in to place so that I did not have to stare at the floor. Today it was pointed down again from hanging around over the weekend. I went up to adjust it with a hex wrench. The neck broke. Not the screw .. the part the screw tightens to. So I now have a broken neck on the camera and I am using duct tape in a sling fashion to support it up. Very disappointed in the quality. 1Initial thoughts: FANTASTIC You can see in the first of the two pictures that I uploaded, the grass is not green. In the second picture you can see the grass is green and the field of view is much wider. The first picture is the "defender" camera that initially came with my security system. The second picture is the camera that I just purchased from Amazon. This camera is far superior to the one that came with my system. I will keep an eye out and see how the picture looks at night, and if it is terrible I will come back and change my review. However, I expect it to be just as good at night as my previous cameras were. I purchased this camera to replace one of the original four that came with my system due to an intermittent fuzzy picture. The color issues didn't really bother me, but I'm glad I have more realistic colors today! For $30 I think this camera just cannot be beat!**************Edit after about three weeks. I still believe this camera cannot be beat for $30. However, the night vision has a flaw common to these inexpensive cameras: commonly referred to as white-wash, the IR light is too strong for faces close to the camera and causes them to be washed out. I had 4 cameras around the outside of my house. One had a problem so I replaced it. I liked the replacement so much I bought more, but I left the "front door" camera because I need to be able to see faces in that one more than any other camera. 4Very, very poor quality inside and out! I purchased this based on others overwelming positive reviews. 4 out of 5 starts with 352 customer reviews should say a lot for a camera. So, I purchased this VideoSecu and the ZOSI 1/3" 800TVL (4.6 out of 5 stars) to compare, and keep the best one and return the other. To my surprise the cheaper ZOSI has much better resolution, and it should with it's 1/3" sensor and 800TVL. My DVR only supports 480TVL so I though maybe on the recording side it would be similar. The VideoSecu says the resolution is 420TVL but it appears to be way less. It seriously looks like 100TVL image scaled up 400%. It's very, very poor image quality with only 1/4" sensor. I decided at that point that I would return it. One of my older cameras infrared lights are going out, so I thought I might as well keep the VideoSecu to replace my old one in the back yard where I don't get much action. I started to adjust the bracket to get my angle right and noticed the tightening washer to the base plate was cross threaded. I got some pliers on it to work it lose and the upper part of the bracket just shatter on me like it was made of porcelain. I'm not kidding, I barely applied any pressure and it just broke. Check out my picture for proof. My conclusion is this camera is made cheap with very poor image quality. I do NOT recommend buying this camera. 1Good Camera This camera is great. I have spent many hours looking at CCTV cameras both in the military and while working for clients and I am impressed with this camera especially for the price.Installation was incredibly easy. I mounted the camera to a J-box attached to a 2x6 to the eve of my house and ran the 100ft of videosecu BNC RCA cable through conduit through the stucco into the attic and down the interior wall to the DVR; plugged it in and it works great!some cameras have an issue with lighting when the IR automatically turns on and off, this one does not it flawlessly picks up color at night when headlights shine into its monitoring area. The IR throw is very direct, where the camera is pointing is the area the IR will concentrate on IR can wash out the image if a bush is inline with the cameras Ir sensors at night but this is common. .This Camera isn't the best for use where license plates (license plate cameras are generally pretty expensive and most 'regular' cameras wont pick up license plates) At night this camera will also struggle with distinct facial features. For someone that wants complete clarity, CCTV cameras are not for you almost all of them are pixiated. look at IP cameras they are more money but have better clarity. This is a good camera especially for the price and I am happy with it. For the purpose of being able to see the vehicles in the driveway or who is walking up to my house they work. They are not the best but they are not junk and definitely useful. 4Good Camera So I bought these about a month ago not really knowing much about cameras, Saw some good reviews on this camera so I bought 2 of them. Worked great. until one started having issues with the IR everytime they would kick on the recording would be horrible. (the other one worked like a champ) easy no hassle return and refund for the defective camera : ) With the refund I went out and purchased a 650tvl camera and when comparing to this camera you can start to see the difference in video quality. I am still very satisfied with it though as in the setting I have this camera mounted even though the Ir kicks on the image is still in color. it will only go black and white when it is total darkness. I really like that it does that. my other cameras kick into black and white as soon as the ir come on. Still I would recommend this camera as a started camera for the price and the quality it gives. If you are looking for something amazing then look elsewhere, if you are looking for a good value then you might want to give this little camera a chance! 4Seems to be a good camera for the price. There may be better cameras out there, but for the price, this one seems to be very good. The onboard IR lighting provides ample lighting for night video capture at a surprising distance. Avoid placing the camera where close objects can cause flare back from the led lights. Be aware that these LED's do have a visible red glow that can be seen from considerable distance in the dark, so I would not categorize this camera as a "stealth", or invisible camera. I have not used this camera in a wet outdoor environment yet, so I don't know about the water resistance. The daytime image is color, and very good. The night time image is black and white, and pretty good. I would like to see this same camera offered in flat black, as well as white. It was easy to hook up. The cables this company sells are good, as well, and I recommend them. Cable adapters were provided with the separately ordered cable, and came in handy. 5So-so. Very low contrast and poor shadow detail for current model For this current model (white), my results were pretty unspectacular. I have this set up on a rear patio and a more expensive Sony CCD model in front. The difference in images between the two is stunning.Resolution on both is so-so, but the area where this VideoSecu really falls down is in contrast, shadow detail, and dynamic range. The image is COMPLETELY lacking in any shadow detail and looks like it has about 3 stops of dynamic range, worse than the camera on a 1st generation iPhone. If you have a scene where there is a sunlit ground area in part of the image, and shaded areas in the rest, the camera will expose to not blow out the brightest area and completely kill any detail in the shaded area, making it appear way too dark.Looking at the same lit scene with the Sony CCD cam (forget the model, it was about $75 from Amazon), the dynamic range is MUCH greater with much more gradation visible from light to dark.I am very much wishing I'd spent another $50 or so to get a good camera for my back patio, as now that this one is installed it's a pain to take it out and reinstall a new one. Not sure if I will be keeping it or not. Well, for 30 bucks or so, nobody should expect too much!UPDATE - I just saw this camera's night vision performance and upgraded the rating from 2 to 3 stars. It actually does quite well at night with very good illumination and decent detail. MUCH better than the daytime performance. So if your main concern is night vision performance, then this isn't so bad. 3
