Customer Reviews

Perfect fit, with easy removal stick-out if you like I bought several versions of the JetDrive, including this Lite 360. I love the options of being able to select different JetDirve versions for my need, especially the ability to select "longer" version so it is easy to insert or remove the drives from the laptop slots. I have at home MacBook Air 13", MacBook Pro retina 13" and MacBook Pro 15" retina, all of them are mid to late 2013 versions. For my own MacBook Pro 15", the "correct" version is supposed to be JetDrive Lite 360. However, after checking the specifications on the manufacture's web site, I realized that Lite 350 version is actually a little longer, and many online reviews mentioned that it might be difficult to remove those drives if they fits too tight and close to the edge of the MacBook. Being a frequent digital camera user, I need the SD card slot for my camera memory card downloading. I don't want the hassle of peeling the card off the card slot. The Lite 350 version does stick out about 3 - 4 mm from the slot, but the benefit of easy removal would save me much time and less headache in the long run. So far, I have never experienced any hit or obstruction because of the small extrusion.Same thing for our MacBook Pro retina 13" which is supposed to use Lite 330, but I got this Lite 360 for it to make sure I have the extra edge sticking out. As a matter of fact, our MacBook Air has to use the Lite 130, the longest version, and it fits snugly right to the edge of the MacBook: so comfortable that it is the hardest one to pull out! Those cards fit the MacBook SD card slot very tight, and it is very unlikely to accidentally remove or damage by daily use or carrying around. I admit somebody might not like the cosmetic appearance of the sticking out card, but you get another benefits: you can see the printed card size from the stick out strips, making it easy for me to know which card I am using without going through the Finder! No need to say more about the performance. These cards are very fast, and I have no problem watching full screen HD videos off the drive. I highly recommend it for all MacBook users. 5Performs well when but won't stay mounted The SSD card performs ok with adequate read/write speeds. Unfortunately, it own't stay mounted since upgrading to Sierra. This wasn't a problem under prior OS X versions. Nor have I been able to replicate it with other SSD cards. I've installed the JetDrive Toolbox utility but that doesn't seem to change anything. The JetDrive Lite still unmount usually after the computer falls asleep. It isn't visible in DiskUtility after disappearing so the only way to get it to mount again is to remove it and reinsert it. Since the fit of the JetDrive is so tight and the small black external piece is so small, it takes some effort to get the JetDrive out of my Mac's card slot. 2Better than expected after failed PNY StorEDGE I previously had purchased a PNY StorEDGE 128GB Flash Memory Expansion Module (P-MEMEXP128U1-EF) that failed at sitting anywhere near flush to the body of my late 2013 MBPr.I was worried that I'd end up with the same problem with the Transcend JetDrive Lite, but I'm glad I placed that order. The Transcend card fits nearly flush to the body of the laptop only sticking out a couple millimeters. Now it does stick out, it's not completely flush with the body.Until Nifty puts out a MiniDrive for the 15" MBPr this may be as good as it gets. The card fits snugly inside the reader and minimizes my worry of it falling out.In comparable tests between the StorEDGE and the JetDrive Lite, the JetDrive pummels the StorEDGE in write performance, while read performance is nearly the same.JetDrive Lite: Read: 76.9 MB/s Write: 59.2 MB/sStorEdge Read: 78.3 MB/s Write: 8.4 MB/sAs some other have mentioned, it does not for whatever reason come formatted for use with OS X.Search Youtube for "How to format a Transcend JetDrive Lite for Mac OS X usage" for a short video showing the process. 4Not living up to expectations. I had high hopes for this product, however it does not meet my expectations, and in fact makes my computer very unstable. I would rate this product 0 stars if possible.I'm using a late 2013 Retina MacBook Pro, 16GB RAM, 2.6Ghz i7 CPUHere are just a few of the issues I have with this device:1. Every time my computer wakes up from sleep, the OS tells me the drive was not ejected properly. (Yes, even with the Transcend tool installed)2. My OS (El Capitan) Kernel panics very frequently (once or twice per day) since adding this device to my MacBook Pro. Without the device plugged in, the computer is very stable.3. Speed... it is nowhere close to the advertised speed listed. Write speeds are in the 4MB-10MB/sec transfer rate. Read speeds are significantly better, usually over 30MB/sec. However, the write performance is so dismal, it takes ages to move large files. I'd suggest using this only for items you plan to only read, such as movies or music. You will have a terrible experience doing any photo/video editing.4. Incompatible with Windows on VMWare Fusion: You can get the disk to show up, but anytime your computer (or VM) goes to sleep, Windows will complain that the disk has disappeared, tell you that the data on the drive is not reliable, and then reboot, giving you no chance to save your work.I really wanted a solution that 'just works', but this one does not, and has caused so much anguish and lost productivity that I could not recommend it to anyone. 1Don't attempt to grind down the lip that sticks out... I really like the concept of what this does. The speed of the transfers writing and reading were as expected (not as fast as an SSD or anything). The only reason why I gave it a 4 star instead of a 5 star is due to the fact that it sticks out (as mentioned in the product description), but that was still too much for my horizontal Henge Docks and I would have to take it out every time I docked my retina 15" MacBook Pro.I wondered why they couldn't design something to fit in the SD card slot and have it flush, so I ended up attempting to grind down the extra lip and it appears that the microcircuitry inside has no room to spare, as the SD card stopped working after.WARNING, I got this as a freebie trade and I backed up all my data before attempting this. I do not recommend attempting this as you may waste your money and also lose your data if you don't back it up.Overall I still prefer my Samsung 256GB MicroSD EvoPlus and a BaseQi aluminum MicroSD adapter. The BaseQi has a little nail-slot to still pop the card out, and it's made of true aluminum and sits flush to the edge. 4More disc space for your MacBook. Good speed. Unreliable remounts. We bought this drive here on Amazon using our other, Amazon Prim account -- highly recommended! I ordered on a Saturday night and they delivered it to our house the next day on Sunday! Sweet! This is a slick and easy way to add storage capacity to your MacBook Pro and breathing room on your hard drive. I moved my 100 GB+ iTunes Library to the drive to free up space on my main hard drive. Installation is easy -- just pop it in the card slot. It sticks out about 1-2 mm, but not enough to really be a problem. The card fits securely in the slot. I'm not worried about it coming loose.Read/write times on a 2014 MacBook Pro are close to what they say they should be. for me, I get over 50 MB/s write speeds and over 86 MB/s read speeds. One of the things the JetDrive Toolbox software is supposed to do is to unmount the drive when your Mac sleeps and remount it when it wakes. As other reviewers have mentioned, this doesn't always work and the drive will sometimes remain unmounted after waking. It'll even remain unrecognized by Disk Utility to try and mount it from there. The only way to remount the drive is to reboot the Mac -- an inconvenience at best and can be a real pain if you have a lot of apps and documents open at the time. The Transcend website doesn't offer any worthwhile help for this issue. This would be a five-star gizmo otherwise.Recommended, but know going in that until it has better compatibility with the Mac OS regarding unmounting and remounting, the JetDrive 360 will not work as smoothly and seamlessly as advertised. 4Good but things to consider I like the product its really good the only problem with it issometimes it's not working properly it will eject it self with no reason and I don't know if it's my product or all of them.the second problem it is not easy to remove especially after the random eject other than this it's great. 3It works well and sits flush on my Late 2013 15" Retina Great way to expand storage if you have a SSD. Although I only got the 64GB I suggest just spend the money to get the 128GB. Very easy to insert however tough to remove! So this is something you'll want to just install and "leave it alone". Not sure how it will hold up with frequent inserting and removing. Leaving the card in while putting the Mac to sleep and waking there is no issues. Shutting down and restarting again no issues. Read Write speeds - well Read speeds is where its at (i.e. - watching vids). Formatted stock as EX-FAT. Not sure why as this is a device made to fit the MacBook Pro's SD card slot. Thus I reformatted it to HFS by Disk Util. Some say not to do this as it messes up the read/write speeds I guess but I want it formatted specifically for my Mac. Reason is when backing up by Time Machine it will back up the card as well.Overall pleased with this product and it works fine and it does have fast read speeds. I mainly use it to store videos, photos, and docs. Next will start putting music files on it. Some say the NIFTY MiniDrive is something to consider once available for the 15" Late 2013.On a side note for some reason the shipping was ultra slow. It took 7 business days to get. Could be the USPS though. 4JetDrive solved my space issues without having to buy a new laptop JetDrive keeps my hard drive empty(-ish) and happy.I highly recommend this as an alternative for people who need more space and don't want to buy a new computer, or for someone who wants an onboard backup when they travel.I have a University-issued 2014 Macbook Pro. Because it's provided by the school, I didn't have any options and was stuck with a non-upgradable 500gb hard drive. Studying music means that my iTunes folder alone is almost 500gb. Within a few months, I was bombarded with "not enough space" messages. I tried an external drive and ended up never having the right files when I wanted them. Enter the JetDrive lite. I split my iTunes files across two drives, and all is well. I can't even notice that it's there or that it's a separate external drive. (Note - I did need to use 3rd party software to split my iTunes).I don't notice any drop in performance, nor do I have any problems with lost files. However, it still is a separate drive. It's not going to show up as "extra space" on your current hard drive. You may need to adjust your finder settings in OS X if you don't see the JetDrive as an option. 5Just what I needed The device works great. I was able to stream Pro Tools audio files directly from the drive without any hiccups. The price is comparable or better than similar devices, with excellent speed. It only sticks out about 1-2mm from the edge of the slot, which seems perfect. Small enough that if you used your computer without a case, it probably wouldn't catch on anything, but big enough to pry out with your fingernail. The only very slight unimportant downside is that it's not initially formatted in Mac OS, journaled. It's a 30 second fix using Apple's Disk Utility when you first install it, if you so choose.I would definitely see myself buying another one of these, if the need arises in the future. 5
