    (I also strongly recommend Flexraid if you are running a Windows based file ... I just purchased my 3rd. I already had two in my Server at home, in additon to 3 2TB WD Greens. I'm using a FlexRaid array on Windows Server 2012R2, using RAID-F (RAID over File System) in snapshot mode. One of them is serving as the parity drive for the array. I was getting low on space, so I just picked up another one to add in. (I also strongly recommend Flexraid if you are running a Windows based file server and want redundancy without using traditional, finicky RAID 5.) These drives are quiet, fast, and about as power efficient as any other 3TB 3.5". It is worth noting that the first two I got are new-old stock Hitachi style drives, from before WD acquired HGST and sold the 3.5" manufacturing to Toshiba. I am interested to see if the new one is also a Hitachi style drive, or a newer Toshiba style. Either way, these drives have proven reliabile for me. They are at the 1y2m mark of 24/7 opeartion, or about 10,200 hours, which puts them past the typical "infant mortality" curve, and so I hope I can expect many years of service. 5Read/write speed was faster than I expected While the read/write speed might not be anything extraordinary for this type and capacity of hard drive, I was pleasantly surprised that I was not going to have to partition the drive in order to record 1080p gameplay footage on it. It's not going to make you fall to your knees in awe if you're looking at it for a boot drive or to store programs, but it can handle recording and accessing of files very well. Should also serve quite well as a backup drive as well. For the price, you really can't do much better for those tasks. 5Escaping corruption, finding salvation and the power to store my data. This is a story about corruption, salvation, and power. I'm talking about data corruption.I had an HGST (Hitachi Global Storage Systems) 3TB drive as a data drive in my computer when it started giving me all sorts of error messages. I had tons of photos and videos (really personal ones, not the stuff downloaded from the Internet) that I was afraid of losing. I got this Toshiba 3.5-inch 3TB 7200 RPM drive to replace the failing drive, as well as a Sabrent Dual Bay external docking station to do the cloning from the questionable drive to this Toshiba. Long story short: the cloning went fine, and this drive has been working great as my data drive for my computer. Salvation! My data was saved!Power: The 7200 RPM speed allows for quick data access, I love the large 3 TB size. If you buy one, make sure you partition it as GPT (not MBR) or you won't be able to access more than 2 TB in a partition. And it's so convenient to be able to just have one huge area for storing data.So, when you face corruption, just remember that you can find salvation in this drive which has the power to store your files and be stable. I've been running it for several months now, fearful that it will fail like the HGST drive, but it's been running fine so I'm overcoming my PTSD and learning to just trust that it's not about to die on me. I'm just glad that I didn't lose my data! 5Amazon may ship you year-old (or worse) drives. Beware if you buy these: I bought this model in part because of the warranty. I ordered them at the end of May 2018. They were delivered several days before the projected delivery date (which is good) but one of them had a manufacture date of February 2017 - a year and 3 months ago. So much for my warranty. It's mostly burned up already. I'm really mad about this.In the same order (again, May 28, 2018) I ordered two Seagate drives, same size (2TB). They were manufactured two days apart- in April of 2018. In other words, last month.As to how the Toshiba drives actually perform when installed, well, I don't know. I'm not sure I will install them, if Amazon is going to play games like this. 2Great Drive. I have purchased four of these in the last six months and the have all been flawless. They are plenty fast, have a large cache and will hold more data than I will ever need for not that much more than either a two or one terabyte version. I monitor them carefully as they are installed in a NAS and run 24/7 and to date, the oldest one has been working perfectly. I am very pleased and highly recommend it. 5The BEST choice for a PS4 hard drive upgrade! I'm going to start by saying that my sole reason for purchasing this hard drive is to upgrade the hard drive in my PS4.There are two ways to upgrade a PS4 hard drive using a 3.5" desktop hard drive. 1) Using the Nyko Data Bank 2) Using an external enclosure to power the hard drive, and running a SATA extension cable from the extension or hard drive to the PS4.I chose to use an external enclosure to house and power this Toshiba hard drive and run a SATA extension cable from the hard drive to the PS4. I'm not going to go into great detail about the process or set-up, but I will be happy to answer any questions and provide help for anyone that may have questions on how I ran my set-up.I spent approximately 2 months doing research and reading every single review for over 10 different hard drives I was considering putting into my PS4. I had narrowed it down to 3 hard drives, but still spent weeks contemplating which would be the best option. In the end, I chose none of those options. One day while doing research, I stumbled upon hdd.userbenchmark.com. This is a fantastic website that shows real-world statistics for a wealth of different hard drives. I was able to compare side-by-side each one of the hard drives that I was considering for my upgrade. Upon chance, I found this Toshiba hard drive on the list. This hard drive currently ranks at #10 on the speed/performance list, and easily out-performs all of the other hard drives I was considering. And the best part? It's at least $20 cheaper than all the other drives I was considering!Now on to the hard drive itself. I'm just your average every day consumer, and I don't have much experience in internal hard drives. I learned a great deal about them through all the research I performed before making my purchase. I could not possibly be more satisfied with my purchase. This hard drive has exceeded all of my expectations. After installing the drive (the PS4 software installed much quicker with this hard drive than my previous upgrade drive) I proceeded to install all of my PS4 games from discs. This took not quite half as long as it did than with the other hard drive I originally used to upgrade the PS4. Loading games and game saves is much quicker with this drive, and the actual processing and performance of the drive is a huge improvement as well. With the other drive, there would be stuttering and delays in graphics rendering while playing large open world games such as GTA 5 and Shadow of Mordor. There are no issues like that whatsoever with this drive. This also wasn't as much of a concern to me, but this drive is whisper quiet. It also doesn't produce as much heat as other 3.5" 7200 RPM drives do. So that being said, I think placing this drive in the Nyko Data Bank to upgrade the PS4 would be absolutely fine.I will be happy to try and answer any questions regarding the hard drive or my set-up. I absolutely without any reservations recommend this hard drive for an upgrade to the PS4! 5Solid Drive, good mechanical performance Bought the 2TB version. Plug and play of course, but be aware of what you're buying - this is considered an "OEM DRIVE", or "Drive only" item. You will not get any cables, manuals, or support items in the box. You can see in my attached image that sequential read and write speeds are not terrible - maybe even good by mechanical drive standards. Their weakness has always been random read/write, which is reflected in the test.I don't think anyone buys these kinds of drives for their performance anymore. Personally, I grabbed it to store media and to install games I don't play often to. It works, Toshiba is a reliable brand. 5Cheap, High Capacity, High Performance. Pick two, or pick this drive and get all three. For the longest time I've been surviving on two 250gb SATA1 HDDs, one of which is an undead drive that stopped working then started again after spending a few winters in the garage collecting dust. One of them started making noise, so I knew then and there that it was finally time to upgrade to this. Everything loads at least twice as fast now. This must be what people richer than I am feel like when they get SSDs.Also, it's quiet. Not dead silent, as it is a mechanical drive, but quiet enough that the main sound I hear from my computer is the video card fan and not hard drive noise.The review will change if this drive ends up dying on me. Based on the research I did before buying this drive, I doubt this drive will die anytime soon unless a hammer gets involved. 5Flawless so far Flawless hard drive. I bought (2) from Amazon.com LLC (not one of the 3rd party marketplace vendors) on Black Friday. These are great drives, they are very fast, and quiet too. I have previously bought several of this same model from other sources and had them in a system about 1-1/2 years I think, and all of them work fine. I use the HD Tune Pro hard drive utility to measure their speed and drive health. They seem to be a cool running drive, at least in my application. Toshiba hard drives are quite an underrated brand, in my opinion. Two year warranty is acceptable and is competitive with other brand, I would prefer three year warranty of course. A few years ago I was buying Hitachi hard drives that had five year warranties. Good all around and nothing bad to say about them so far. 5Ok drives but one out of four Failed I purchased 4 of the 3TB DT01ACA300 drives in September 2013, and as of June 2016 three of the original four as still working strong and don't show any sign failing or SMART errors.I have always used western digital drives ,and I wanted to try a different brand. I'm somewhat satisfied with these Toshiba drives, however I did have a complete loss on one of the four drives. It conveniently decided to fail a little more than a month after the warranty expired. Drives do fail but this Toshiba is the first drive of many that I have owned that has failed. It's the luck of the draw but because of this I might go with another brand (like HGST) when re-building my NAS system. 3
