    Informative readUnlike other reviewers, I didn't find the organization of the book to be confusing, and I found the writing to be rather pedestrian. There aren't any real clunkers of the type that can put you off a book, but Horn is no David Simon. For me, that didn't really matter: The strength of the book is in the detailed picture Horn provides about the workings of the New York justice system and the cold case unit. Lots of TV myths debunked and a good picture of the backbiting and office politics of policing (one area where it does recall "Homicide"). 3Homicide and Forensic ConsultantAs the former Commander of The Bronx Homicde Task Force, I found this book to be "right-on" as it applies to the politics of the NYPDI am the author of Practical Homicide Investigation, which is considered "The Bible" for homicide investigators. Restless Sleep could very well be used as a frame of reference for those detectives dedicated to the investigation of cold cases. The reality of big city police administrations and big city police egos as they impact the investigative process were excellently presented, explained and documented within this book. I would certainly recommend this book. 5Must readDated yes but well worth the read. The author weaves the stories of the cases into the fabric of the day to day goings on of the squad. 5A realistic look at a successful cold case effortI was tired of reading academic treatises from people whose experience didn't include shoe leather on the pavement. Then along comes Stacy Horn with an unquenchable thirst for real time cold case investigation. Stacy really goes inside NYCPD, warts and all. I contacted her and she led me to Vito. He came and spoke to our nonprofit which is dedicated to the support of families and friends of cold case victims. He was a hit with family members and investigators alike. Vito shared with us how he did it. Stacy's account is real. Get this book! 5Wonderful book!The writing style and content demonstrate the author's ability to not only research but to absorb information. We have a cold case team working on a cold case in my town right now. Very Good. 4totally disorganized bookI was looking forward to reading this book until I "tried" to read and follow the author's writing in the first 2 chapters.This book is totally disorganized in the way it tries to prevent the cases the reader is suposed to follow.For example, on one page the author will begin describing the 20 year old crime and then, on the very next page, the author will jump to a description of the Federal Rico Statues and then on the next page the author will give you the salaries of the New York Police Department and on the next page the author will describe the neighborhoods of New York and you bein to wonder what happened to the cold case the author was supposed to be telling us about and how it was solved.I thought book editors were supposed to tell writers when their book is so totally disorganized????I thought editors were supposed to tell writers when the book totally strays from the main point???If you want to read a book that appears to have been written by someone with Attention Deficit Disorder then this is the book for you.If you want to read well written true crime books then read books by M. William Phelps.As for me, I'm return this book to Amazon for a full refund. 1Excellent true crime cold case squad stories of NY City!excellent piece of non fiction cold case crimes and the cold case squad of NY City and its 5 boroughhs 5Not a Five, But Very Good Reading.I have one problem with this book. Too much of the "F" word in the first few chapters. Not quotes of what others say, but injections of the author's personal thinking. "F" this & "F" that. It's way too much, but vanishes after a while. It's a "what in hell is that all about?" experience. Otherwise the book is well-written, interesting, and holds your attention most of the time. It's not a keeper but I enjoyed reading it. 4
