Description

NATO stands on the brink of ruin. The war in Afghanistan - NATO's ultimate test - hangs in doubt. Yet the biggest threat to the world's most powerful military alliance is not from a resurgent Taliban. It comes from within. On the eve of a critical NATO Summit in Prague, Major Mitchell Crane, U.S. Army Intelligence, has just five days to stop a conspiracy that will damage the Alliance at its most vulnerable moment. Immediately after arriving in Prague, Crane is arrested and falsely accused of murder. The victim is Crane's partner, a senior EUROPOL police officer. The investigation meant to stop a scandal from tearing NATO apart suddenly looks compromised from the start. With the future of NATO at risk, Crane races to confront a deadly web of corrupt officials, oganized crime, and betrayal from deep within the Alliance itself.

Customer Reviews

A Great Vacation ReadA great vacation read. I read it while in eastern Europe and was transported to a Prague of espionage and intrigue - and my vacation experience was all the richer. It might not win a Nobel prize but if you like a good spy novel that is well placed in geography and history, you'll enjoy this. 4Hard to put downThe previous reviewers (including Scott's cousin :-) sum the book up well--a great read that is very hard to put down. I can't wait to get back to Prague to see the locations that were described so vividly throughout the book. Great character development and the expected plot twists that were not predicted (unlike some similar spy thriller books that are too predictable). Can't wait for Scott's next book!! 5Burn this book! This book was truly awful! I'm the fool that thought that I was reading the author of "Ice Harvest." My regret is that the few hours I spent reading this absurd cartoonish novel will be lost to me forever. I seriously wonder if the author is attempting some sort of joke or writing this completely tongue in cheek. It was that bad. 1Another great book by Scott PhillipsAnyone who likes the world of tradecraft written to precision will love this book. Phillips is a wonderful but generally unsung writer; I've never read a book of his that I didn't like. (Note: He wrote the novel from which the film Ice Harvest was adapted.) 5A great readFull disclosure: the author is my cousin. But don't let that stop you from reading this review. You see, he has done nothing to bribe or curry my favor regarding his book. Yet. In the meantime, I really enjoyed the book. I was a bit worried to start, you know, someone asks you to read their book and you kind of cringe because it probably sucks and you'll have to find something nice to say. Lucky for me, it didn't suck.I love intelligent spy thrillers and I loved this book. It's a great combination of current affairs and classic spy story. What I loved is that I learned new things about a city I've visited and about topics I thought I knew well. Who knew about the Russian mob problem in the Czech countryside? Or the inevitable nasty delicacy the locals eat as a badge of honor? The action scenes are handled well and it has all the requisite elements of a spy thriller, a talented yet flawed main character, shady politicians and bureaucrats, and a beautiful women with a gun. They come together in a stunning setting with a plot that keeps you guessing even though it's narrated by the main character.I really loved the book and hope for a follow-up. Oh, and I'm still open for a bribe. 5Great spy thrillerGreat read. A true spy thriller with characters with depth and realistic dialogue. Rare in the genre. 5Thrilling and kept me on the edge to the very end!Wow! I loved the way the it grips you from the very start and keep you captivated until the very end. Loved the way the author weaves in Prague and its intricate details. I love that city! Loved the story. This is an author to keep an eye on. Next intrigue set in Paris? Or will he embark on another Major Crane thriller? 5I couldn't put it downAfter starting this book, I couldn't put it down until I'd finished, and even then, I couldn't stop thinking about it. I would say it's a similar book to one of the Bourne/Ludlum series, or the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series... It's a great mystery, with a clever main character, an interesting supporting cast of charaters (that were easy to keep straight, unlike those of a certain Swedish author)and all set in a foreign location that's authentic and you know the author knows his way around there...and it's totally action packed!I only wish there was a sequel that I could start reading immediately. I want more Major Mitchell Crane.Well done, especially since I think it's the author's first novel. I am going to follow Scott Phillips (not literally - he's too clever ;-)) 5
