    Big enough for piggybacked outlet This outlet cover was deep enough to work with my sump pump, which has a "piggybacked" outlet (the switch plugs in first, then the motor). Amazon had a special link to buy this combined with a box and GFCI outlet: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00X725XMI/ and https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BW0YXU/ - it all fit together very well. The cover was pre-cut for the GFCI plug so installation was a snap. I intend to cover the entire thing with a fake rock like you see on sprinkler systems so it should last well outdoors. 4Nice Idea The Taymac MM710C Weatherproof Single Outlet Cover is designed to offer better protection to outlets that are in exposed in outdoor locations. I believe it does a good job with limitations. One limitation that I noticed is when I use a heavier outdoor plug, the cord is too stiff to bend tight enough to close the cover all the way. This is not a major problem because the door still offers some protection from the elements.As noted by other reviewers this is an easy install and appears to be well made. I like the frosted finish of the cover and though it is not the most fashionable look it is not an eyesore. I purchased this outlet cover because the metal cover broke off my outdoor outlet and I'm using the outlet for powering my gutter heaters however this cover would be ideal for protecting the outlet when plugging in your Chrismas lights too. So get one! 4Most 14- and 16-gague power cords will work great with either the 3 I replaced my 20-year-old home's original outdoor outlet covers with a couple of these Taymac brand covers. Now if you are shopping for one of these, you may have noticed that Taymac sells the cover in a few different sizes of depth. I have literally used all 3 and I'd highly suggest the 3.5" one if you want to just have a casual use outlet where a plug may stay plugged in for a couple of days (or during Christmas). Most 14- and 16-gague power cords will work great with either the 3.5" or this 4.75" cover. However, I'd recommend the latter with a 12-gauge power cord or other thicker cords. The 2" version will not close with any extension cord that I've tried on it thus far.This cover works in both vertical and horizontal configurations (my home uses horizontal) and it comes with a few parts that will help it conform to most outlet configurations.I'd highly recommend this as it will help keep the outlet dry and keep your breaker on (safely) during rain. 4Did the job/ hard to find a cover with this much depth. Finding a cover which will completely cover a heavy duty cord, which tends to be have more robust casing, at the receptacle end, is not easy. This one worked perfectly for me. Installation for a do it yourselfer was easy after watching some YouTube videos and reading the instructions which came with the cover. I recommend this but it gets only 4 stars because it is overpriced despite being a unique product due to its depth. IT seems to be made out of strong plastic but putting the frosted lid on is sort of delicate. You have to be very careful not to break any of the tabs. 4made in America! Just what I was looking for. Excellent design, compact, quality construction. 5Can keep everything plugged in This is my second purchase of the Taymac weatherproof outlet. I installed the first one last year around Christmas, since i wanted to keep the outdoor lights plugged in, and the outlet cover which was previously there, would not protect against the elements if left plugged in. After installing this cover (with caulking not provided), the repetitive problems I had going out in the rain to flip the breaker on again (under an umbrella) was over. No more water running down the cord or water entering my not water-proof outlet. A really cheap fix over getting a proper outlet installed.Highly recommended. I would buy again if needed.I hope this helps buyers should they have such an outlet. It will solve their problems in situations described. Please click "Yes" below this line if this review was helpful to you. 5Easy with a few caveats This was mostly easy to install. Until the drought in California relents, I won't know how well it actually performs. I did have two installation concerns.1. On the back side of the box, there is a foam gasket that is supposed to give a weather seal against the junction box behind. But that foam was a little crushed near the corners. I screwed this product on nice and tight, compressing the gasket, but given its uneven thickness to begin with, I'm not 100% confident it's making a good seal. If it turns out it leaks, it'll be an easy bead of silicone to fix the problem.2. The hinged plastic cover snaps onto the back half of box. You line up four plastic hinge pins on the box with matching holes on the cover, and slide sideways till it snaps in place. Sounds easy, but I found it to be a real PITA before I finally got it. 3Just what I needed I purchased this to cover a 220 30 amp outlet that is right behind my hot tub for peace of mind and to meet code, just in case. The stores only carried 3.5 and I needed wider to bend the power cord. Anyway, it had more insulation than expected for a watertight fit and pre-cut holes so all you have to do is loosen your outlet screes a few turns, slide it on, move it over and tighten them up. Screws are included as well as plastic inserts to make it fit any outlet and tabs that can be easily snapped out with a pair of pliers for a large outlet like mine. The door can hinge up and down or left and right. It took some pressure to snap it on so I assume it s a solid, strong fit. I d actually rate it about 4.8 stars because there s no way to snap a hole in the plastic cover to close the door AND leave the cord plugged in. I took a photo to show you what I mean. I plan to notch it out. Odds are this sort of need only applies if you have a hot tub but if there s anything that will always be plugged in, and you re using a large power source (220), then be prepared to notch a hole in the door itself. 5
