STABLE CARD!! Saved my studio setup! I had Startech PCIe firewire card in my machine from before. I hooked up an RME Fireface 800 and it would crash out my computer randomly after about 30 minutes of using Cubase - a lot of the time when it was not doing anything. I swapped out cards to this one as I read online that cards using the TI chips were stable. I ran it all day Sunday with no issues, and then as a test, I ran a Cubase project in loop mode running several VSTi's for4 hours straight. I think this is the solution! And this card is very cheap! 5 STAR!!!Update - been a few weeks now - still going rock solid! My setup:Windows 10 EducationLenovo Xeon server Quad corePCIe firewire card (this one)RME fireface connected to one of the Firewire 800 ports on the cardTHANK YOU SYBA!Added July 2019: - its been weeks later - still stable as a Rock! 5Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 I bought this for the sole purpose of connecting a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 DAW interface and it works perfectly. I am using the FW800 to FW400 cable that came with the Focusrite and have zero problems with the unit. I am able to get 1.3ms latency on this setup, though I do not actually use it that low unless I am ONLY tracking a guitar through a simulator. Great card, zero problems, fully compatible with the Texas Instruments chipset. You will see this card has a molex connector on it that would provide additional power. I do not connect anything to it because it is not necessary and the Saffire unit has its own power source. 5Works with ASUS motherboards and Skylake Core i7 architecture with older FireWire pro audio interfaces. If you are dealing with legacy Firewire issues for a pro audio interface, camera, video camera, etc., after building or purchasing an Intel Skylake Core i7 CPU and ASUS motherboard, this card is the solution to your problem! I was really frustrated after building a badass $1500 worth of parts new studio computer to run my Pro Tools interfaces, and everything else. I had purchased the AVID recommended SIIG N342534X which would not work. It would show up in the OS fine on either Win7 x64 pro or Win10 x64 pro, but Pro Tools would always error out with the 'ASIO device could not be loaded'. I tried everything, adjusting BIOS settings, trying the legacy MS FW driver, regular MS FW driver, even the TI FW driver, same experience. Purchased a 2nd AVID recommended FW card, the Pyro API-316, same issues. Spent hours searching the AVID forums, opened support case with ASUS, maybe a beta BIOS I could try? Nothing would work. I am very experienced and A+, NET+ certified Sr. Systems admin with 18 years experience working for one of the largest companies in the US, so not just a hobbyist who doesn't do his research before building a system. I knew it was an issue with DMA and memory timing, or something like that, because if I slowed my 32GB of G Skill memory down below a certain point, it would work, but I was unable to set the AVID HW buffer and what not where it needed to be. The problem I believe is the older TI XIO2213A FW chipset just cannot clock or time accurately on the newer Skylake Architecture. I ended up finding the answer to my problem on GearSlutz (thank you GearSlutz, you guys are awesome). The newer TI XIO2213B can sync correctly without any BIOS adjustments for power management, C-States, Turbo boost, etc. I hope this review helps someone else avoid the waste of time that I went through trying everything, rebooting, testing, adjusting, testing, change driver, reboot, test, etc. I built my new system because Skylake is the last architecture that will support my pro audio hardware software platform, very thankful to get my Digidesign Digi002 mixer working properly, I would like to get another 5-7 years out of my hardware because I don't need anything newer for my project studio. 5Was about to return this thing If your using an older firewire cable to connect your older camcorder to your newer computer, try getting bilingual firewire cable. Finally got it to work after getting that cable from monoprice for 5 bucks.I was actually going to return this after thinking it wasn't working on my newer computer. I wanted to archive the family MiniDV tapes from the ol' Sony DCR-TRV8 before they all disintegrated. Tried hooking it up for the first time, and the computer detected the firewire card (Texas Instruments 1394 OHCI Complaint Host Controller) but it just couldn't detect my camcorder when it was plugged in. Googled all the possible solutions, but those didn't work, so I slightly gave up and activated an Amazon Return. I knew the camcorder, and cable were working because I scavenged up my super old computer (Sony Vaio Windows XP) and it was able to detect, and record. So the prime suspect must be the Syba SY-PEX30016 3 Port Firewire 1394B & 1394A Pcie 1.X1 Card TI XIO2213B Chipset Card, or so I thought. After one final google I accidentally saw the info about the bilingual cable doohickey. So I decided to give it a try since I had about a month to return to Amazon. New French speaking Bilingual Cabled arrived, and I finally got it working. I'm now in the process of archiving a shoe box full of DV tapes. Yay? 5Cheap solution for a firewire port on your PCIe board Works like a charm for providing a firewire port on newer motherboards. I need it to connect my old Sony DV tape camera so I could convert my tapes to digital. Just remember to always have the firewire cable plugged into the computer and the camera before you start the computer. Plugging in the camera after the computer is started is a sure fire way to fry the 1394 circuitry in your camera. This is not a problem with the Syba adapter. This is a 1394 problem that has always been there. This is the second one I have bought and they both have worked fine. You don't need software from at least Windows 8 up. just plug and play. 5Worked well, but first was broken The first card I received, the computer could recognize the card, but it wouldn't start up. That ended up being a pack to remove as there is a power socket on the board and I just about had to pry the thing apart to get the power cord out of the card. If you have a end that has the spring assist to push the adapter out that helps a lot (I switched on my second card). The second card worked great, I used it to upload my old MiniDV movies and worked like a charm. Given that the first one was broken (but others might not have thought considering the system recognized the card), I am giving it a 4 out of 5 stars as that makes me a little concerned on the quality and testing for the product. 4Update: Don't buy for use with Ryzen, hard locks system during initial install and during Windows 10 upgrade Update:Today I tried upgrading my PC to the Windows 10 Creator's Update and I got the same error code 00 that indicates a faulty CPU or motherboard. I removed the card and tried the upgrade again and it completed without issues. At this point I wouldn't recommend that anyone buy this card for a Ryzen-based system, as there are clear compatibility issues between the two. I should have purchased a comparable card from Vantec instead of wasting time and money on this piece of garbage.Original ReviewI recently built a new workstation with an AMD R7 1700 on an ASRock X370 Professional Gaming motherboard. Occasionally I need to save video from a FireWire DV camcorder, so I bought this add-on card due to its TI chipset. The first card I had was defective to the point of hard locking the system after a couple of minutes. It was bad enough that it caused the motherboard to give an error code of 00, which indocates a faulty CPU (or mobo). At first I thought I had a defective CPU, but then I realized that it was this card after seeing the system hang in AIDA 64 while enumerating PCI devices. The system worked fine with the card removed.I got a replacement from Amazon and it is working fine, so apparently these cards are hit and miss. Hopefully this card lasts for a while, but I'm not holding my breath. 1Great firewire card and it works on Windows 10 to Works with Windows 10 Pro x64. Windows has been moving away from firewire technology and I needed a method to connect the HV20 HDV camcorder to the PC. This adapter worked great. I connected the 1394b to test 800 Mbps and then the 1394a was tested. Both media had worked flawlessly. So if you are asking, does this adapter work with Windows 10, the answer would be, yes. 5Works with Windows 10 64-bit - Comes with a crappy cable though It's really well built. The knobs have a nice smooth feel when rotating left or right. Perfect for my small home studio (FL Studio and a Roland Juno-Di). I experience 0 latency when recording. I had to install a Firewire PCI card onto my Motherboard (ASUS TUF Z270 Mark 1) in order to enjoy this audio interface. I used the Syba SY-PEX30016 3 Port Firewire 1394B & 1394A PCI Card. If you're wanting to go with Firewire and are in the similar situation where you'll have to install a Firewire PCI card you'll want to use the Syba one I suggested because it hosts a Texas Instrument Chipset and anything else is a waste of money. This is a nice card that is compatible with Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (it's what I'm using). I installed it on my ASUS TUF Z270 Mark 1 motherboard without issue in order to connect a Focusrite Saffire Pro 14 Firewire Audio Interface and it's working perfectly. No latency when recording and has 3 plugs. It does come with a crappy firewire cable that has a plastic plug on one end which is a 1394a to 1394b as well so I recommend purchasing a higher quality cable that will better suit your needs. This card hosts a Texas Instrument Chipset making this card that much better than the rest. Well made and stylish design for what it is. 5It was super easy to install once I figured out how my ... I bought this because I still have an old High 8 Digital videocamera that needs a firewire cable to convert the video to digital on the computer. It was super easy to install once I figured out how my computer opens up to allow new cards. It is basically plug and play. Don't freak out if the driver doesn't download-- it doesn't need a driver. Just plug in the firewire cable (making sure your camera is on VCR mode) and it will do the rest (will even rewind if you want it to record from the start). One caution: I don't know all the technical terms, but you need to know if your computer is so old that it has power plug in for the cards or if the cards are powered through the motherboard port. I first bought one of these ports with a power connector, and it didn't work. Then I exchanged for this one (that powers through the port itself) and it worked great! 5
