Customer Reviews

Great Back Pack Just got this not long ago. First thing I noticed was how well it was made. First thing I noticed when I put it on was that the padding wrapped around my spine so my notebook is not flat against it. So here we go back to front: Tons of padding on inside of the straps and back of backpack that lets air flow through. As you open the back pocket (main storage) you come to the area for the Notebook that is padded also and has a Velcro strap to hold it in place. The main storage is about 6" deep so you have about 4.5" of storage left. Books, Binders, clothes etc.. The next pockets divided into 2 sections, a magazine / document section & an area I can put my external battery for my iPhone and rapid charger. A external Hard drive and DVD player could also fit with ease. Next is your easy access pocket big enough for passport, keys maybe even a small clutch. The next pocket actually has another zipper pocket (fair size) and also has on left 1/4 is what I think looks like a narrow pocket protector with 3 pockets of different heigts. To the right of that (1/4 of the pocket) are 2 small Velcro strapped pockets that might hold cables or small remotes. in the very right 1/2 of the pocket is a mesh bag for small stuff you want to hold snugly. On the outside front of the bag are several loops that I think one could use bungee cords on to strap a small item on the outside such as a small blanket. On either side of the bag are mesh pockets that hold your water bottles. All outside zippers have heavy duty pulls and there is a heavily padded strap on top of the main area. I think you will be pleased if you buy it, just do not cram everything you own in it then complain because it breaks. It will take awhile to find out how to pack it to its full advantage but it will take a lot of weight out of my gym bag when I travel on buses, trains or walking ( I do a lot of that) Another reason I got it was because it does not look like it has a notebook inside, just text books so no one will bother you. I hope this helps people. 5My laptop bag started to fray and could not find one that I liked to replace it I am not a back pack person for a laptop. Never have been. I also travel for a living. 146 different flights in 2014 and 227 nights in a hotel. My laptop bag started to fray and could not find one that I liked to replace it. I decided to change up my routine and gamble on this backpack. I never liked them because they always seemed to fall off my shoulder when only carrying it on one shoulder. Plus I really can;t stand when people get on planes with them and swing them around. Can't tell you how many times I have been hit by one of them. Well to my surprise, this is one that stay son your one shoulder, packs all your stuff in multiple pockets and is very comfortable to wear. Very much worth the money spent. 5Great backpack I bought this for my husband for Christmas and he really likes it. He wanted a comfortable, durable backpack to carry his laptop in to work everyday, and this fits the bill. It's well made with several pockets and compartments, and really protects his computer. The design and cobalt color gives this backpack a grown-up look, so it doesn't look like you're borrowing your kid's book bag.It was much more affordable on amazon than at our local office supply stores, and the vendor I bought it from was excellent. 5Comfortable, a lot of room. I am a graduate student and teach classes at the university. I have used this backpack for about a semester and a half now, and it has been a great purchase. The two most important features for me are that there is a lot of room, and the backpack is comfortable to carry, even when it if fairly full. I regularly carry 2 notebooks, and about 4 textbooks around with me, and they fit comfortably into the backpack. Even with this load I can still stop at the library if I need to pick up a few books. I admit, the middle compartment, I do not use much. The two front compartments are nice, but a little small. I would prefer that they had a higher capacity and the middle pocket had less room. Though they are still big enough to be useful. I carry a travel stapler, flash drive, some pens and pencils, post it notes, 3 dry-erase markers, an eraser, and a book weight in mine. The backpack advertises "Air-flow back padding" that keeps one's back cool, and perhaps the padding helps--it is comfortable to say the least--but my back does often feel hot while carrying this pack. Sometimes, I am afraid I left my computer on because the amount of heat I feel does not seem appropriate for the outside temperature. As far as durability, my backpack gets a lot of use and it is still in great condition.Overall this was a great purchase. I am pretty picky about backpacks because I use them so much, and if this one wears out I would not hesitate to purchase a second one as its replacement. 4Near perfect laptop backpack for work Good quality, good colors, and tons of pockets and storage mostly in the right places. This is nearly a perfect configuration, other than the contents of the front lower pocket, which really needs rethinking, and the lack of any smaller compartments in the main section.Description Back to Front:- Nicely padded shoulder straps, plenty of length adjustment- Adjustment straps have plastic finger loops for easy adjustment- On top there are two "handle" type straps. One is well padded and very visible in the product photo. This is the main grab handle. There is also a canvast strap that runs parallel to this handle, but is more on the back surface. I think that is intended for if you need to "hang" the pack. It isn't padded.- Main compartment has a well padded laptop slip in compartment with a velcro strap. I think the velcro strap is quite a bit longer than it needs to be, but I guess that accomodates larger laptops. There is then another padded flap that I think is there with two purposes. You could slip a tablet in the pack between the laptop pouch and this flap, creating another section with padding on both sides. Or if you fold this flap down it fits perfectly in the bottom of the bag and provides a sturdier "bottom" to the bag, with padding. That is probably the main intended purpose, and I think it is a flap so the bag can be "flatter" if desired, and for when they store them and ship them. The main compartment is 7" deep at the bottom, so you can put a lot of stuff in this part of the pack. Books or folders with papers, or jackets, hats etc. I would have preferred to see this about half as deep, with the 2nd compartment splitting that depth. Also would prefer to have some smaller net storage in here to contain for instance a laptop power supply and cord, pens/pencils, etc. It would be nice to access that all from the main compartment.- Side net pockets - for water bottles etc. These are great for coffee cups or water bottles. I wouldn't have a pack without these. Stay hydrated. If you are in college, this is where you carry two extra 40 oz beers you can drink on the way to your most hated class. You know...unless you want to graduate.- 2nd large zippered compartment is not padded but is large enough for documents, or a variety of items you may not want "on display" when you open the main compartment to pull out your lappie. For instance, I have placed medications, or confidential papers, or just things I carry around but don't use and don't want to see the wear and tear of the main pocket. This is also a good place for my Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones in their zippered case. There is a nylon divider or pocket in this compartment, so you could put papers in the pocket and then a rolled up jacket or baseball cap in the other section outside the pocket.- Front top zippered compartment: This is my favorite -- I put my work badge, a wireless mouse, various USB flash drives, and anything small that I need quick access to. This is just a zippered compartment - it contains no additional pockets or features. But, it is one of the most used pockets on my backpack.-Lower front zippered compartment - this one might be overkill inside, but if you like a lot of separate pockets for distinct items -- this is the place. Inside this chamber these is another horizontally zippered compartment basically the full size of the pocket. Then on top of that there is a net pocket suitable for a phone or calculator, or perhaps something like passport wallet. In the center there is a vertical pouch with a velcro strap on top. Open that and the thing expands and has another velcro top slightly smaller pocket, and on top of that a 3rd small pouch. I'm not sure what I would use those for and I'd have preferred to see pen/pencil compartments across this section. To the right of that is a slightly wider pocket that is just the right size to put a hohner harmonica in it's plastic box. for most people, I'm not sure what this pocket is good for, it's too small for a phone and too big for pens and pencils. The front face of this has 3 layered slots at different heights. Again..usefullness of that is TBD. I really wish this section had individual pen/pencil pockets. That would be perfect for a work bag.- The front face has 4 canvas loops sewn in which I assume are for hanging other items from with carabiners. Maybe I will order some carabiners so I can use these :)PROs* Good Quality of construction and materials* Good design of most pockets* Price wasn't off the chart, although more expensive that some others of similar quality but lesser features* Water bottle pockets and top front zippered pocket are "must haves" for me.CONs* The first negative I see is that the strap adjustment slides and the 1 carabiner loop on the straps are plastic. If they were metal, this would be the perfect bag. The problem with putting the plastic parts on this or any backpack is that they usually break before the pack is worn out. These are the weak link in the design of most packs. I don't see metal hardware on many if any so...I guess that just is what it is. They don't rust, on the upside.* The front lower zippered compartment is too busy with too many little compartments that don't seem to be designed for anything I own. I'd prefer to see one section for pens and pencils, one or two net sections for sunglasses/(or glasses or reading glasses) cases, etc.OVERALL SUMMARYHappy with the pack, it's almost perfect and a good replacement to a similarly designed pack I had for several years. Wish it had better compartments in the front lower pocket. Worth it's cost, and looks pretty good too. 4Well Made Backpack Ordered this for my work bag to carry my 15" laptop and other materials. This is constructed well and seems to be very durable. It is comfortable to use and has many different pockets to store all sorts of things. I like the clip in the front pocket to attach my office keys to. 4Good Backpack But Buy the Warranty I like this backpack, the pockets, laptop storage, etc all are convenient and well organized. I use it regularly (daily) but I would consider what I use it for pretty normal use, not heavy duty (never completely full). The outside and interior all look new except right next to the zippers. There the fabric has shredded and left a gap. I've just started the process of seeing if it would be covered under Swiss Gear's 3 year limited warranty. 3A few improvements would make it a perfect backpack for air travelers This is a great backpack for travel. The built-in laptop sleeve should be ample for most computers up to 16". The protection afforded by the sleeve is very good. The central storage compartment is spacious and I particularly like the feature of the flip-down panel that creates a "floor" for this large compartment and also allows the backpack to reliably sit upright. The central compartment is large enough for several large books or binders (though it is not as large as what you might find on the largest school backpacks aimed at students who need to haul around several massive textbooks at once. I actually use this compartment for my Respironics CPAP machine, which is a compact unit. I'm able to slide the entire CPAP case into this space easily if I want to avoid it being in checked baggage. There is also a more narrow storage area suitable for documents or thin folders. Finally, you will find the usual front features found in SwissGear backpacks: storage compartments suitable for electronic accessories, pens, a hook for keys, and small pockets. This backpack is extremely comfortable to wear and well-padded.I would consider the Cobalt Notebook backpack perfect if not for a couple of minor deficiencies: First, there are several small utility pockets within the front compartment which are not especially useful because they are narrow and deep. These pockets would have been more useful if they were wider. Velcro flaps might also have been useful so one would have the option to keep what's in them secure. Likewise, while there is an internal pocket with a zipper to close it (which I find necessary to keep small items from falling out and getting all over the inside of the front compartment), I would have liked an additional pocket with a zipper inside this compartment. Second, this backpack does have mesh bottle carriers on the outer sides. However, it lacks a feature I have had on other backpacks: small side pockets with zippers that are suitable for eyeglass cases or other items that you may want to get to quickly. You could put those items in the mesh pockets but they are likely to fall out if the backpack is laying flat under an airline seat.Overall, I give this pack 4 stars. The quality and design is excellent. A few small improvements would make this the perfect pack for the air traveler. It also looks great. One note: the blue color on mine is darker than it appears in the photo. 4Im happy Nice backpack, durable and good quality. easy buy. 5I love this backpack I needed a light weight, non-bulky, and stylish backpack to carry my 13" laptop, books, and computer accessories. The SwissGear Cobalt backpack met all my requirements and more. It is a great looking backpack, very light, and stocked with packets galore. The main compartment consists of a roomy area for large books and binders. Within the main compartment, there is a sleeve for a 15.6" laptop. Even with the laptop in tow, there is still plenty of room for books and binders. Also the main compartment has a stiff padded bottom cardboard so that the bottom does not sag with the weight of books. It also prevents the backpack from tipping over when placed on the floor. The padded cardboard can be folded away so that the backpack can be stored when empty. This is a great feature. Then it has compartments! The second large compartment is not as roomy as the main compartment. It was designed to carry a 2" 3-ring binder or a slim book. Within the second large compartment, there is a pocket for thin paper items such as envelopes. At the top, by the red cross emblem, it has a quick access zippered compartment for a cell phone, wallet, money, passport, sunglasses, etc. The bottom zippered compartment has small pockets for pens, business cards, and other small items. Within this compartment, another zippered compartment is available about the size of the compartment by the red cross emblem.Carrying this backpack fully loaded is extremely comfortable. The straps and the backside are so well padded that it is a joy to go places with it.The blue material is darker than what is shown on the picture. It has a slight sheen, which makes the backpack look elegant. 5
