Customer Reviews

Well produced device that works well. This does exactly what it is intended to do. All plugs slide in and out smoothly. This is a great device so you don't need to carry HDMI cables with you if you are presenting where HD and cables are present.Let's not forget that you're paying, what? $30 bucks less than at M$ charges for the same dang thing. I even ordered, on Amazon, a 15' DisplayPort to HDMI cable for onsite demos or movie playback for only $13.00 more.$49 @ M$ store for that? Cmon people @ M$ ... pay attention. We'll pay primo for the Surface Pro 2 but please don't nickel and dime us on overpriced add on stuff. 5Works just fine, just don't think about using it with older 720p StarTech adapters are my go-to company for almost any type of audio/video adapters.I got this one to let my wife connect her Windows Surface Pro to our bedroom TV and connect up a wireless keyboard to it to allow her to use it from anywhere in the room.Everything connected up fine, however, I failed to realize how bad 720p TVs are at dealing with connections from newer tech. Picture was terrible, any adjustments on the TV or the Surface Pro settings would make things worse.So...looks like it's time for a new TV! lolBuy the adapter. I use it on other applications in my home theater and living room TVs and everything works, sounds and looks just fine.If you have a 720p TV, get this adapter and buy a new TV like I'm about to! lol 5Worked well Product did arrive in time as promised. Packaging was good and easy to open. What is good about it1. Price. The Microsoft certified / sold my Microsoft is more than 2 times the cost of this product. It works as good as the original product. So why pay more than double the cost ! I waited for these many days to write the review only to check the durability. Normally electronic products fail in the first few days or they would last quite long. So I hope this would work well for a long time.2. AppearanceThe plastic finish is quite good. My friend has bought the original adapter from BestBuy paying twice the cost but looks more or less the same. What is not so good about itI do not have any complaints.Base lineIt is worth the price. Even if it fails, I can buy another one and still spend less than the one sold at Best Buy. 5Perfect device, perfect price! I own a Dell XPS L702X laptop. I ordered this adapter so I can connect second monitors and projectors that require the VGA connection. My laptop runs both Windows 7 and Ubuntu/Kubuntu. For the Linux OS, I do have to have this adapter plugged into the computer when I first turn it on else the Linux OS won't recognize it. However, most people run Windows and they will be happy to know that it is completely plug-n-play on the Win7 side and requires no restarting. The only glitch I've noticed is the compatibility with only ONE Epson projector and it is only that there can be seen very slight "wiggling" of the image on the screen with certain colors displayed on the screen. It does NOT happen with the other Epson projector I own, nor the Samsung flat monitor or the Dell flat monitor I own. All other devices I have connected with it work perfectly. It must only be a rare compatibility issue with the image settings of either my video card, that particular monitor's color settings, or both. I do not believe this will be something that others will experience.Great price, Amazon shipped quickly, very happy with purchase! 5This Was Needed This Was Needed.I have a Dell laptop with 2 video out's. One was HDMI & one was miniDisplay, a proprietary Apple thang type deal type headache type yeah.So a did a few minutes of youTube research and thread trollin'-- and voila, this pup came with thread bro approval and lament-ending solution encouragement by folks who had the very same hassles I had.My previous solution worked fine till it stopped working.Do not get a miniPort male to HDMI male... They may got bad.Get any old Amazon Basics HDMI male to male PLUS this.Tis the Way to Go. Hear Ye? I mean, Hear me? Ah right... 5works as described, allows third external display on macbook pro I bought this to add a third external display to my mid-2015 15.5" Macbook Pro with a discrete graphics card. The old MBP with NVidia graphics could simultaneously support three external displays, but one consequence of Apple's switch to Radeon cards is that they only have enough power to drive two external displays at once. The fix is to use at least one "active" dongle (like this one), which allows some power to be drawn from the monitor rather than all supplied by the graphics card. My third display is up and running, and I love it! 5Works great with Surface Pro and Surface Pro 2 After buying my Surface Pro I realized I wanted, no, needed to hook this beautiful piece of equipment to the biggest TV I could find. Unfortunately after laying out all that money for a Surface Pro, I was hesitant to spend another $50 for the official Microsoft Surface Pro HDMI adapter. For $15 I decided to take a gamble on this adapter. It works like a champ. When the Surface Pro 2s came out I grabbed one. This adapter works just as well with it. I currently have it connected to a 40" TV and it works fine. I did have to shut off overscan on my TV, but that has nothing to do with the adapter. With my Surface Pro (not 2) I was not able to get sound over this adapter, even though both mini Display Port and HDMI support that. I don't know if that's a limitation of the Surface Pro or not. I have not tried with the Surface Pro 2 yet. I'm using it with a Plugable UD-3900 USB 3.0 Universal Docking Station with Dual Video Outputs for Windows 8.1, 8, 7, XP (HDMI and DVI/ VGA to 2048x1152, Gigabit Ethernet, Audio, 2 USB 3.0 Ports, 4 USB 2.0 Ports, 4A AC Power Adapter) dock and have speakers directly attached to it.If you have a Surface Pro or Surface Pro 2 and want a cheaper HDMI adapter, this fits the bill.tk 5Not active and does not work with Surface Even though the description specifically says this will work with the Surface Pro 3 and Surface Pro 4 this is a passive adapter and it does not work reliably.I purchased this a little over a year ago and it randomly stopped working with my Surface Pro 3. I recently upgraded to a Surface Pro 4 and it never worked with the pro 4. Researching, Microsoft recommends only using active adapters.Beware, there is a high likelihood this will not work with your Surface device. 2Great alternative to the Apple brand adapters I've bought many of these StarTech brand adapters (15+) and not had a single problem with them. We use them mostly with Mac laptops, but a few Dell XPS laptops as well. They actually feel well constructed, which was surprising at first since they are so much cheaper than the Apple brand adapters. I've tried some other brands like the HDE Mini DisplayPort to VGA Female Adapter for MacTM and Cable Matters Gold Plated Mini DisplayPort (Thunderbolt Port Compatible) to VGA Male to Female Adapter in Black, but we've had several go out unexpectedly after just a couple uses. Those brands are are much cheaper, but I'm willing to pay more for significantly better quality/reliability from StarTech. 5This thing worked great!! This thing worked great!!! After trying just about everything to get my desktop on a Dell laptop to be shown through a projectors image, on the wall AT the same time, was like trying to get into Fort Knox!!!!I don't have any old style video port (blue in color) on my laptop, just HDMI and Mini Display Port. I connected the laptop to the ViewSonic projector via the HDMI cable I had and no matter what I did, I couldn't get the laptop's desktop to display on the wall and still see the desktop/use the mouse on the laptop at the same time. I could see the laptop's desktop on the wall through the projector but the screen on the laptop was black. I tried disabling the display drivers, one at a time, which I have 2 of on this souped up laptop: one Intel and the other nVidia, but nothing worked.I finally purchased this Mini Display Port to VGA video Adapter and as soon as I turned on the projector after connecting the cables up to the laptop, B-A-M.....the screen on the laptop's desktop grew black bars on both sides and as soon as the projector warmed up, the laptop's desktop was displayed on the wall AT the same time!!!! YEA!!!!! My wife can now see AND use her laptop's screen and the mouse at the same time as the image is being displayed on the wall where her students are looking!!!!!My wife's happy......she's the one using the laptop with the projector when she's teaching classes. 5
