Great for low pressure situations such as wells We're on a private well with 40-60psi water pressure and a softener. We chose this one because of our limited water pressure. We use this shower head with a shower flow valve inline for turning the flow way down during lathering / shaving. With the black O-ring restrictor removed from the head and the flow valve inline we still get excellent pressure and overall flow. Very nice. This is heads and shoulders above any other shower head we have tried given our limited situation. I highly recommend. 5Perfect showerhead, don't get the bigger one with mroe nozzles, the pressure drops. Get this one instead! I have had speakman shower heads for years and the model I had looked just like this one but after 6 years it started to fall apart. I tried replacing it with a speakman with 5 nozzles and a center spray and that was a miserable experience. It worked but was such weak water pressure I returned it. I ordered this one and it is just like the shower head I purchased many years ago. It has strong pressure, easy to adjust and small and simple. I really like this shower head. 5I am enjoying this showerhead so far, but a lot of the parts are plastic - Speakman has sold out when compared to old units I bought this showerhead after using my father-in-laws Speakman showerhead that is many many many years old.The net-net is that I am very happy with the upgrade from the cheapo showerhead I had before, but I have to call out that Speakman is selling their brand name more than anything rather than true quality. Looking at this showerhead they have converted everything they thought they could get away with to plastic. When comparing it against my father-in-laws old version of presumably the same showerhead where everything is metal you can certainly tell the difference.Specifically, the following things seem to be plastic: The black jets, the front cover around the jets, the handle for adjusting the jets, and I am pretty sure the outer housing is plastic too (I was in a hurry installing it with my 2yr old "helping" and did not look too closely). There are some nice metal parts (a big hunk of brass can be seen from the back), but they are mixed with much cheaper plastic.So like I said, this thing gets great reviews from my wife and I am also enjoying it (and I did not even remove the 2.5 gpm flow limiter), but I am not sure it is worth $34. I just don't think it will last that long with the plastic parts. I think Speakman has sold out and is selling their brand rather than true quality on this particular product.I also think the plastic molded jets are a bit "irregular". I suspect a metal set of jets could/would likely be built to better tolerances.(note that the extension arm in one of the attached photos is not included - that is this thing which my wife and I are also enjoying so far Shower Arm, Fivanus Universal Showering Components, 11"(Total Length) Adjustable Height Shower Head Arm Easy for Any Shower Angles. Chrome) 4New favorite shower head. I got the 2.5GPM version. Since I live on East Coast and water conservation is not an issue, I always pop out the water saver to get more pressure, since I prefer showering under a fire hose. That being said, I have a 30 year old 30Gal water heater and, without the water saver, it goes through all that water in less than 10 minutes (I usually like to stand there and think about life). This morning I put the saver back in to see if I could get the heat to last longer, and it did. Though, with a noticeable decrease in pressure. Not too bad, but noticeable.Since I plan on moving in a few months anyway, it's not a big deal. I'm positive the new place I get to will have higher pressure and, probably a bigger heater. Besides, I plan on switching over to cold showers here shortly. Just not quite there yet. For everyone else who likes higher water pressure, I see one of the sellers suggests getting a lower GPM model. If that's true, I would probably agree to get the 2GPM, or lower. Aside from that, this is my new favorite brand of shower head and will probably keep buying these until I die, or the company goes out of business. Highly recommended if you're like me and prefer to shower under a fire hose. It's quite fantastic. 5Perfection This showerhead is absolute perfection. The four jets concentrate all of the available water right on the person showering instead of scattering it wide to the walls or the curtain like many larger showerrheads with more jets do. There is plenty of water and absolutely no need to ever remove the flow restricter. Just install the showerhead as-is and enjoy both the incredible feeling and the cost savings on your hot water bill. I'm actually going to buy a couple more of these and put them on the shelf for use in later years in case they ever stop making this wonderful product. Maybe even give a couple as gifts. Yes, I like the product that much and I think you will too. 5Good Shower Head, OK Pressure For Me This is a well made shower head but I just couldn't use it. I did return it because of my personal reasons. I had an old head without the waterflow restrictions and that's what I was used too. My old one bit the dust and I replaced it with this Speakman. It looked nice and had multiple stream options. The quality was well evident even though I chose the plated plastic head over the more expensive metal one. I would hazard a guess that both would perform the same. It would merely be a personal preference to go metal or plastic. The control knob was easy to adjust and it looked great in the shower but it just didn't have enough pressure for me. I did not take out the flow restriction plate because on most Speakman's you have to basically destroy the plate and I thought I might send it back and didn't want to mess it up. It might work well for some people who don't need extreme pressure or maybe even better without the restriction disc but it didn't work for me. I ended up repairing my old head and am satisfied. But I will say if I am ever in need for another head, I'll go with a Speakman. 4fantastic after our land lord sent two different plumbers to fix/ changed our shower head, twice to no avail, (me watching them closely both times,) decided to take the quality of my shower into my own hands.changing the showerhead was a piece of cake. I bought some teflon tape at the time i ordered the Speakman but when I opened the showerhead's box I saw there had been no need, there was a bit of threading tape included with the product.after the i screwed in the shower head and turned it on I was shock and delighted by how much pressure it delivered compared to what had been dribbling out of other shower heads before.needless to say I'll be taking this showerhead with us when we move. 5Comparing Speakman Showerheads S-2253, S-2005-H, and Speakman Hand Shower VS-3014; Increasing Water Pressure S-2253 Like many of you, I set out to find the great showerhead we found in our last hotel (Embassy Suites). The hotel showerhead was a Speakman S-2253. One thing to point out is the hotel water pressure is unlikely to be duplicated. Although our home water pressure is good, it's much less than that of the hotel.Speakman S-2005-H:Not knowing which Speakman showerhead was at the hotel, I first ordered the Speakman S-2005-H. This is a great all around showerhead ranging from 1.5 inch concentrated blast (massage mode) to a pleasant wide dispersion of the water from 5 perimeter nozzles. As soon as I got the S-2005-H, it was very obvious this shower head was much bigger than what was at the hotel; the S-2005-H was about 5 inches in diameter. [I did not see the smaller S-2253 until later.] I would highly recommend the S-2005-H as a great overall showerhead. Nevertheless, I wanted the same "water fall" experience I had at the hotel, and the S-2005-H was not it (more on this later). BTW: I took the little O Ring out of this showerhead to increase the water flow; apparently, this doubles water pressure.Now, my wife was NOT happy with the S-2005-H for the simple reason it replaced an 18 inch Flex Neck Waterpik showerhead. She loved the flexible neck shower head for when she cleaned the shower - as it could be pointed at any wall or ceiling. FYI: no shower head other than a hand shower has the flexible hose of the Waterpik flex neck. Secondly, a much taller son did not like the relatively fixed position of a typical shower head as too close to the wall we also have a shower stool sitting next to. The Waterpik flex neck is very convenient, but it does not offer the same water pressure and spray pattern I wanted that the Speakman shower head can provide.Speakman VS-3014 Handheld Shower:To meet my families combined needs, my next purchase was the Speakman hand shower VS-3014 (2.5 GPM). This offered a similar experience to the S-2005-H, but not quite the same water pressure. However, I did NOT take out the pressure limiter out of the hand shower bracket to increase the water pressure. I would still rate the VS-3014 hand shower as the best one I have used, but I must confess I have only used brands one-half the cost. The Speakman hand shower appears to be a better engineered product than the typical lower cost brands at box stores.Speakman S-2253:I still was looking for the shower experience I had at the hotel, and along the way I found the smaller entry level Speakman S-2253. The S-2253 was about 2 inches in diameter with 4 perimeter jets; whereas, the S-2005-H was 5 inches in diameter with 5 perimeter jets. Besides the S-2253 being quite a bit smaller than the S-2005-H showerhead, it also offers a spray pattern Speakman calls "drench" mode. I now know drench mode is what I liked so much about the shower experience at the hotel. Drench mode is like a mini waterfall (under gravity), and not the pressurized massage pattern of the S-2005-H. On the S-2253, drench mode is concentrated stream about 2 inches in diameter after 12 inches of fall. I like to adjust the stream to about 4 inches in diameter - for my preference.BTW: At the time of this writing, Amazon offers two more expensive Speakman models in addition to the S-2253 with "drench mode": model S-2252 ($58) and model S-2251 ($121). I chose the entry level model S-2253 (same as at hotel). I'm guessing the S-2252 and S-2251 would have an even better "drench" mode experience for the higher cost showerheads, but I am satisfied with the least cost model S-2253.Removing the flow control cylinder in the S-2253:I knew I was NOT going to return the lower cost S-2253 model, so I punched out the flow restrictor - the white spoked 3/8 inch diameter cylinder holding the tiny O-ring. Simply unscrew the shower head ball, put the threaded side down with the ball up, insert a 3/16-1/4 inch Phillips head screwdriver down through top of ball head, and smack screwdriver downward to dislodge the 3/8 inch flow control cylinder. Note, my first attempt using a 1/8 Phillips head screwdriver only punched a hole through the thin plastic center of the cylinder - so you need to use the bigger Phillips head.Delta Shower Arm extender and Delta Shower Diverter:So, how did I get the showerhead I wanted (S-2253) and the convenience of the Waterpik Flex Neck my other family members wanted - to clean shower walls and adjust height & extension for taller family members? My solution was to purchase the Delta shower arm extender (UA902-pk) for $18 and a Delta Shower Arm Diverter (U4922-PK) for $14.The shower arm diverter allowed the connection of both the S-2253 shower head and the Speakman hand shower. Now the hand shower can be used for directing spray to lower extremities or cleaning shower walls & ceiling (happy wife). The shower arm extender allows the showerhead to be extended about 10 inches away from wall and with an adjustable height setting (happy son). I get to have drench mode of S-2253 (happy me)! 5Excellent! This shower head (the Speakman S-2253) is excellent. I also own a more expensive Speakman ($50.00+, most likely because it's metal and has 6 nozzles). Both work really well. And even though this one's plastic, it's good plastic.I didn't want to spend a lot this time around so, trusting Speakman's quality based upon experience with the more expensive model, I bought this one. It works as well as my older Speakman, and I actually prefer it because I'm very tall---this one pivots higher, so I don't have to duck my head to get wet. Take out the flow thingie if you have water pressure problems. Highly recommended. 5HOLY !! HOLY !!! This is it I finally found a shower head that is really high powers. THIS IS THE 4 hole one they have a six also. But more holes mean less pressure .so I opted for this one. I hooked it up and man really powerful on my low flow apt water.Then I read to take out the mandatory water restricters. ONE ARTICAL SAID TO JUST OPEN OR LOOK INTO THE NECK BALL JOINT AREA OF WHERE YOU SCREW THE SHOWER HEAD ON.AND TAKE OUT THE TINY BLACK RUBBER O RING. NEED A LONG NEEDLE TO PRICK OUT THE O RING . PRETTY EASY BUT LITTLE.THEN I PUT BACK ON. HOLY !!! Again it at least doubled the pressure on a ALREADY great head..it will knock you over almost. I love it.So don't drill out or mess with the white plastic built in flow part: leave it in. only take the black o RING out. if you mess with that part it can and will mess up break. the best shower headyou ever got. Get two there that good. SEEYA off to the shower.... 5
