Customer Reviews

1st file holder I actually use I hesitate to nerd out so hard on an office accessory, but this is what I've been searching for for years. I am a writer, and produce reams of paper, which I tend to spit out in a frenzy and can never get myself to file in a timely manner. They just pile up around me, and it's murder to find them again. The thing is, they do tend to cluster conveniently into under a dozen categories for any given month or season: eg, interview notes from each of sources a, b and c; copy about x, y and z; outlines and organization stuff; open questions. That's nine categories above, but there are not room for nine piles on my desk. So they tend to get mixed up.(Part of the problem with filing cabinets, though, is that the categories often reveal themselves gradually, and I don't know what file folders to make up. (I resist organizational moments like creating them, so that doesn't happen frequently, plus I hate wasting them by labeling them all and changing the categories a week later.)I've tried all sorts of organizing systems to get me to separate them: horizontal trays, vertical trays, those cubbyhole things--all with very limited success. (The cubbyholes came closest, with little post-it labels I could change.)The crucial problem with all of them was that I had to be able to reach them so easily I could slip them right in when I was in a hurry, and I needed to be able to SEE what was in a stack when I wanted to fetch something, not just see the label for it. (Especially while it was still in the nebulous stage before I had figured out what the category was.)With anything vertical, including the cubbyholes, there was about two inches of vertical space, so once you slipped a paper in, the surface of it was pretty well hidden from view. I tried some staggered models, but I didn't see enough of the page to help that much, and I was kind of annoyed that the staggering made the top ones further away. This item finally created the solution: sliding trays. That allows them to become staggered on the fly, when you pull one out. They are spaced enough so I can see a bit of each stack, and with one hand swipe, the tray is out and I can see the whole top of the first page. (They slide really easily--much less resistance than opening a drawer. And they don't waste valuable desk space with the staggering, because 99% of the time, they are stacked right on top of each other. It might sound like the height of laziness, but it's about acknowledging what stands in my way. When my brain is feverishly working on a problem, wrestling with copy, it does not want to cede control to the anal-retentive side to organize things. It only happens if it's instantaneous and easy.I've been using these for a few months, and it actually happens. I have six of them now, clustered around my two desks. The price is right, too. And they match the rest of my black metal mesh stuff like my garbage cans and pen holders. They feel pretty durable, and they are extremely light, so I can/do lift them up and move them around from time to time. And I assembled them in about a minute flat.I'm very happy. One less excuse for my next book to be late. Haha. 5GREAT LITTLE DESK TRAY This mesh tray does a great job in organizing my desk. The little trays are easy to pull out and the overall system seems quite durable. I like that it is made of metal and not plastic. I have had this on my desk for quite some time now and the trays are indeed wide enough for letter size paper and have a good depth and height. Would recommend! 4Perfect for my needs After reading most of the reviews for this item, I ordered it knowing that it may not be as good as I would like. I was plesently surprised at the quality of the version that I recieved. From the reviews, it seems that there is more than one version of this item being sold. Mine had strong bolts thar screwed directly into the cross pieces, resulting in a very sturdy platform for the trays. It was a little warped so the legs rocked. I just applied a little downward pressure on the top cross piece and it leveled out. The trays did stick a little, so I applied a little WD40 to the tray rails and now they operate as smooth as glass. As I said, the version that I recieved was well worth the money but the reviews indicate that there are lesser quality versions of this being shipped by the supplier. 4It holds paper. I ordered this product because we use varying paper sizes at our business, 8.5x13, 8.5x11, 8.5x14, and wanted to use one tray to hold all of them by the printer. The trays are great, but the design seems to be a bit off. You have to (easily) assemble the product, and there are 3 screws on each side that hold it together. After assembling it, the tracks that hold the trays in place were barely lined up enough to keep the trays from falling out. So I had to bend the tracks a little to get them to hold the trays. Probably a minor thing, which is why I still give it 3 stars. The function is great, but the out-of-the-box design seems to be a bit off. 3easy assembly, sturdy product, simple design I was a bit hesitant to order this based on some of the negative reviews, but I'm pleasantly surprised with the product. It's super easy to assemble. The assembly consists of the two triangular end pieces, three horizontal bars (one for the top and two for the bottom), and 6 screws. You end up with 2 screws holding the top horizontal bar in place, and 4 screws holding the bottom two bars in place. The screws fit perfectly, and I left them just a slight bit loose so that I could shift the frame to sit flat on the table without any wobble; then I tightened them up to hold that position. The drawers slide in easily and are designed to stop when pushed all the way back so that they don't slide right off the back of the shelf. I'm guessing some of the negative reviews might be based on defective pieces, but if you're ordering from Amazon, they're always great with returns or exchanges if a product is defective. I'm glad I took the chance! 5good One of the legs was bent a little so that I couldn't get the thing to stay level on my desk. What am I supposed to do, put a book of matches under one of the legs? I re-bent the leg so that it matched the other and now it sits squarely on the desk. I should not have had to do this, but in all it was not a big deal and I would order another if I needed it knowing that I would have to straighten the leg again. I doubt I would have to fix it. it was probably a fluke part. 3Great Great Desk Tray Who would have thought I could be so happy and excited about a desk tray!?!? It was super easy to put it together, it took me maybe 30 seconds. I didnt have to use any tools but the little tool that was given with the parts. I use the tray and it has helped me to stay more organized and to keep all the clutter off of my work desk. I was hesitant on buying this and spending more than $6 on a tray but this was worth it and would purchase it again without hesitation. It was shipped to me very quickly as well. 5I've put together bikes and toys so this should have been easy (actually it should have arrived as pictured) but it ... This is a no start product. It's not as pictured on Amazon. I've fixed my fair share of appliances and electronics. I've put together bikes and toys so this should have been easy (actually it should have arrived as pictured) but it doesn't sit squarely on my desk, it rocks back and forth. I tried turning parts around even though I was pretty sure I had put it together correctly, and I had. It wouldn't sit flush on my desk because it's cheaply made. It came with two screws missing and it is very cheaply made. I should have bought one at an office supply store since this one is going to go into the bin. Save yourself the money. This product is rubbish. 1Perfect for reducing desk clutter, easy to assemble. does exactly what I need it to do, hold papers and items within easy reach and provide slide-out shelves. Looks good and with a slight bend of the legs, it rests level on a hard surface. Not sure what other reviewers found so difficult about assembling this simple tray, but I had it together in a couple minutes and it's perched nicely on the desk. No issues and the price was nice. 5Stacks up a Chromebox, Mac Mini & Airport Extreme This 3-level steel desk tray is PERFECT for stacking up and organizing standard 8 inch square computer equipment. I used it to stack and organize my Mac Mini, Chromebox and Airport Extreme base station and now my desk is much neater (see photo). If you are looking for a way to untangle the cables and bring order to chaos, this 3-tray unit is the ticket. It is sturdy, easy to assemble and PERFECT for stacking up computer modules which measure roughly 8 inches square by up to 2 inches thick. Try to find a component rack for less than 10 times the price of this bargain! 5
