Customer Reviews

This frame is wonderful! This is the fourth digital frame I've ever purchased. Each time I decide to buy a digital frame, I scour the internet looking for the best one. The last frame I bought was an 11" SmartParts, and it was absolutely beautiful.I almost passed on this frame because of the negative reviews. I soon discovered that there are negative reviews for all the digital frames. You really just have to decide what you want out of a digital frame. This one has everything I was looking for and more.First of all, the frame is beautiful. I really do not like the way it looks in the picture online. It is very easy to use. I bought a 2GB memory card, and when it's plugged into the digital frame, you can either select copy (to copy pictures onto the internal storage) or view (to just watch them on the memory card). The slide show has a lot of settings. You can select the transitions that you want. You can set the display time as low as 1 second. You can set it to display 1, 2, 3, or 4 pictures at a time. It's easy to use, functions well. Don't let the negative reviews scare you away. This is a great frame. 5Consumer Reports is Wrong I've had this frame for a while, and although it's okay for still pictures, beware if you want to display video clips. The video would not play directly from a flash drive, only from an SD card, and then without any sound. I tried recoding my video clip to different formats and only the uncompressed .avi file copied from the camera would play. Calling the 800 number provides a recommendation to e-mail for faster service. Any response by e-mail takes at least a day, with the answers never seeming to match the questions. The web page provides a tutorial for a firmware upgrade without any link to download the actual firmware upgrade file. I have a feeling this company consists of one person working part time out of their garage. I bought this originally based on the Consumer Reports rating, and they really got it wrong. Some people who have bought this product seem satisfied, but there are enough negative reviews that anyone would be wise to steer clear of it. 2Finally success after 3 failures! 2 perfectly working frames! I've been trying since Mother's Day (May) to get a working unit. After 3 failures, I now have 2 perfectly working frames. Here's a clue: if it doesn't immediately load your photos and then start a slide show, you have a bad unit. It's really that simple if your unit is good. If it doesn't sync up, add more photos, and automatically resume the slide show, you have a bad unit. Don't waste anymore time on it. Send it back and get a replacement. There's a high out-of-box failure rate, but a good unit is awesome.... The instructions say "plug in the unit, turn on the power, then insert memory card." I found success when plug in the memory card first, then power up the unit. I don't know if it makes a difference, but it did for me. I love this frame. It syncs up automatically every time I add new photos. It has a beautiful look and shows very clear pictures. I also bought 2 SPX12 (the 12 inch version) with perfect success right out of the box. A feature missing from the SPX12 (this frame has it) is the random order feature, so the slide show on the SPX8 is more interesting. The SPX12 also seems to zoom in on pictures that I've carefully formatted in Photoshop, trying to do some sort of "optimization". The SPX8 leaves the photos formatted as I want them. 3The Perfect Digital Frame I did my research - this was the highest rated frame by Consumer Reports, and Amazon's price is better than I have been seeing in my local ads. If you want an easy-to-use right-out-of-the-box digital frame with excellent picture quality, this is it! I used an old memory card that I had from one of my previous digital cameras, added a bunch of photos to it from my computer, plugged the card into this frame. It begins by asking you if you want to just view the photos or copy them to the frame's memory - after that, it automatically begins the slide show with great fade-out and movement patterns; the photos are clear and bright. So simple to use in this basic mode - I cannot wait to play around with it some more to customize the folders and even add some music! 5Great product Very easy to load pictures on from portable USB flash drive or SD card. I haven't tried from my computer yet. Picture quality is wonderful, holds a lot of pictures, has options for how many pictures you want displayed on the screen and how you would like the pics to change to the next one (i.e. fade, from the right or left, random). Wood frame is very nice. Wish it had a battery operation option, needs to be pluged in to work. Haven't seen the motion detection feature work yet, I've left it sitting but it doesn't seem to shut itself off ??? not sure about that yet. Bought as a gift and while loading pics and playing with it wanted to keep it for myself! I recommend this frame, they improved on issues their earlier models had. 4Good picture-horrible ease of use. The SPX8-8inch frame has nice pictures but the software is the biggest piece of garbage. In a time that programs are becoming very user friendly and advance, the software and firmware from Smart Parts is taking a step backwards 10 years. It's like working on Windows 311 in todays environment. In trying to upgrade the firmware, they list two files, but hyperlink to the first file is broken and you can't download it. You can download the second file, but it doesn't work though it is supposed to more recent versions.I also have bigger fingers and using the rocker switch on the top is very inconvenient. If I had to do it over, I would avoid any Smart Parts frames.I consider myself a competent computer person and love most technology except this digital frame. 2Great digital frame I got this frame for my wife as a birthday gift and we've been very pleased. After I got the frame, we downloaded the Smartparts Syncpix Frame Software from their website. It is pretty basic software but made moving photo files from our computer to the frame relatively easy. It does take a while to download photos to the frame, but being able to put hundreds of photos at your fingertips makes the wait worth it. We have thousands of digital photos and find this frame really helps us enjoy them all over again! Use the folder feature on the frame to load up sets of photos so you can shift the displayed pictures whenever you want. It took me about 3 hours to load up 400 or so photos of varying resolution. Also, be sure to update the firmware when you get the frame if you aren't on version 1.25. Check out the Smartparts website at [...] for instructions on how to update the firmware. The resolution and clarity of the display are great. You might have a few hiccups loading the photos and it will take some time, but I believe you'll really enjoy this frame. 4Nice picture frame, easy to upload pictures I like the size and look of this picture frame. I like that it has internal memory, and can play video as well as photos. However, I wish the remote and menu were easier to use. There is no "pause" button for the pictures, so when the slideshow is playing you cannot stop on one picture and leave it there. I also wish there was an option to show the file name on the bottom of the picture. The file name has information about who's in it, when it was taken, etc, and without that information, it's hard to know where the picture was from.Screen quality is fine.It was worth the price. 3Beautifull picture quality As a self-proclaimed photographer and artist I am a stickler for image quality. The colors and crispness of this digital picture frame are outstanding. Perfect size for a desktop or to put up on a wall. The wood frame is a good quality and a nice color. The program it comes with is simple enough to use and makes quick work resizing photos to the frame's right size. As long as you have the drives you can treat it like an external drive (just toss in photos) and the frame will show them but if you use the software you can fit more photos into the frame without suffering in quality. Will work for horizontal or vertical photos, the frame will adjust. If you have the frame showing horizontal and put in a vertical photo it will show black bars around the photo and the image will not be distorted.I quite enjoy this frame and would buy it again 5Good resolution, so-so interface I had purchased Smartparts' other 8" frame, the SP8EM as a gift for my mother, and was really impressed with the picture quality. I decided to buy one for my office, but bought this model instead to get the motion sensor. The resolution is just as good, but it is a little too bright, and as far as I can tell, this isn't adjustable. The motion sensor is a little flakey, but I think it works ok most of the time. The angle of view of the sensor seems to be very narrow, so you can be looking at the frame, but just off to the side, and it will turn off. I've come in to work many times and it is on, there's no way for me to know if someone walked by or if it never turned off.I put some videos on the memory card in the same folder as pictures, but it has never played them. I haven't investigated further.I don't like the way this frame wants to copy the files to internal memory each time it is powered on. Can't turn this off, though. The 1GB card I bought for it cost me $8, so why bother with internal memory? You can resize all your pics very quickly yourself with a free utility such as Irfanview or Picasa. The stand on this frame is really annoying, it falls off everytime you pick up the frame. So dumb. The stand on the SP8EM is very different and much better. This frame has frozen a couple of times. It just gets stuck on a picture and never moves to the next. Reboot and it is ok. Hasn't done this in a while.Overall, I like the SP8EM better, and would recommend that one unless you need the motion sensor. I'd bet money that the one I gave my mother was turned off and was never turned on again... 4
