Customer Reviews

Great fan and it is quiet. This is a great fan for my Kaby Lake 60 Watt CPU. Keeps the temps down as long as overclocking is not a factor and it's really quiet. It fits in the Silverstone Mini-STX case with a little room to spare. It is tight around tha RAM, but does not touch or overlap. 4Fan comes a bit too close to the mounting pins for my comfort. This cooler is about as good as the intel stock cooler but in a lower profile. If you are working in one of those mini pc cases that basically just houses an itx board and a few drives this will be great. It also has more style than the stock cooler. The fan is at an awkward angle so it slightly pushing against the mounting pins. They were trying to keep the cooler as square as possible. It doesn t interfere with the mounting since the cooler itself is rather light, but it just doesn t feel good. All of that said I didn t get this to be a CPU cooler. I got this because it seems to be the only 80mm PWM low profile fan I can find. Very specific I know, but when you have a GPU in the ML09B you can only fit a low profile fan on the side. I am thinking of getting a second cooler to have 1 fan pushing air in over the GPU and another fan pulling air out. I understand the market for needing just the fan is near 0, but it is rather ridiculous that is what I have to do. Silver stone makes the case and the fan, but this is the only way to get both. 3but the screws didn t tighten it down low enough to actually make contact with the cpu - which meant it didn t actually cool it. Bought another brand Tried to replace a big passive heatsink that wasn t cooling enough under load, but the screws didn t tighten it down low enough to actually make contact with the cpu - which meant it didn t actually cool it. Bought another brand; you should too. 1Noise after a couple months, not much better than stock I was looking for a better than stock cooler for my 2nd hand i5-4690. Technically I didn't have the stock cooler, so I needed something better than the Pentium cooler I had. This seemed to fit the bill. It does not pass Prime95 stress test, but for my needs it will never get that hot. Running all cores at 100% during video conversion, the CPU gets to around 65, which is tolerable. But it's not much better than the Pentium cooler it replaces. There isn't much out there anymore for LGA1150 coolers. The reason it loses another star is because the fan has noticeable vibration after a couple months. It comes and goes. There are no screws to adjust for its bracket, so I guess I'll just deal with it or replace the whole unit. 3Good design, poor quality Out of the box, one of the three screws that hold the fan onto the heatsink interferes with fan blades. One star off for poor quality control. To fix it is easy - all you have to do is to firmly tighten that screw. However, I feel that the margin of error here is still really small. And I am worried that, after some use the screw would loosen up and start blocking the fan blades again. We will see.One star off for compatibility issue with Silverstone PT13B. The backplate of NT07-115x is quite thick, and adds a bulk to the bottom of the motherboard. The motherboard standoffs on the PT13B are too short to accommodate the backplate. As a result, while the I/O side of the motherboard can be screwed to the case, the opposite side effectively rests on the backplate as opposed to on the motherboard standoffs. Since both are Silverstone products, this issue really should not exist. Now on to the pros. I bought NT07-115X to replace the AR04 for better compatibility with ASUS Q87T/CSM motherboard (which has a similar layout to ASUS's H81T I believe). Like other reviewers have noted, AR04 interferes with capacitors around the socket. What's worse for me is that AR04 blocks both USB2.0 headers on the motherboard. The push-pin locking mechanism of AR04 is not well made either, making installing AR04 extremely difficult (which I believe is again a quality issue on Silverstone's side not design issue, because push-pin locking on Intel stock cooler works very well). The NT07-115X, however, has none of these issues. The mounting screws are very well made and installation was a breeze. Thermal paste was given in a tube (resealable), not like the non-resealable bag as in AR04.I probably give up some cooling performance due to the lack of heat pipes compared to AR04. But given my setup (Thin Mini-ITX in Silverstone PT13B case), I value compatibility (and thus easy maintenance) more than anything else. NT07-115X is in fact quieter than the AR04 it replaced, but this is probably a result of AR04 simply wearing out after years of use. 3Is good, but some caveats The heat sink is no different from a stock Intel solution in terms of cooling but there are some issues. The fan shroud was not quite lined up correctly to allow you to push or pull the pins of the heat sink for installation.Rotating the shroud was not really an option since the plastic clips did not align with the heat sink fins cuts. I could tell this was cut by hand and I had no choice but to cut the plastic clips so I could move the shroud properly. The height is not exactly what was advertised, it is too high by a few millimeters. I still had enough room for installation but I m probably losing airflow since is so close to the cover of the case.Although in the end I made this work properly, it is a shame that the manufacturer did not pay attention to these problems in quality. 3Easy to Install and Quiet I never use the fan/heatsink that comes with a CPU, and figured this one should do the trick. Not only was it easy to install, it's silent. I'm still breaking it in, but so far, I would absolutely use this vendor again in the future. 'Very impressed. -- This was installed on an 8th Gen i3, 3.6 GHz processor. Thanks! 5Great Fan Great fan and low style that fits in my case. It runs quiet enough that i don't hear it. Im running a pentium chip and my temps average 34C and full load never gets past 47C but ymmv. The screws are so much better then the stock intel fans. There is a back plate that needs to go under your motherboard so everything can be hooked up properly.Cons:The only issue i had is my asus motherboard had two capacitors in the way so i needed to trim 2 of the fins. It was no big deal to do but i advise to check clearance measurements before purchasing.Other Thoughts:I didnt use the thermal paste that came with it so i can't leave a comment about that. The thermal paste that i use for all my builds is IC Diamond and never had any issues. I got temps to drop as much as 10C when compared to using artic silver. So if you want a good paste look into that brand. You can search Amazon for it. 5There are screws under the fan for it to to hit. Why? For the low profile usage that people buy this for (to go into Silverstone cases), this fits but is designed poorly. 1. There are screws under the fan blades. Make sure to pull the fan up higher OFF of terribly placed screws and 2. its very loud. Most people are making these for small machines to hide but the volume it produces will not help this situation. It basically sounds like the computer was just turned on at all times. The fan that came with the case went out but was much better with actual copper on it and heatsink aspect plus the fan. This is not nearly as nice or as cooling as that one. Do I have to buy the case again to get the way quieter and cooler fan?Side note - the thermal paste was dry and would not spread or come out of the tube easily. Not sure if old or just bad quality. 1Big let down I am a huge fan of SilverStone products. Have 5 computer cases and just purchased a power supply from thembut, cannot recommend this cooler. Unless this one was improperly assembled, the legs sit at an angle insteadof perpendicular to the MOBO. I was unable to attach it to the MOBO. Maybe it could be forced in but, it is cheaperto buy a new fan than a new MOBO. Also, although advertised as low profile, it is too tall for a 1u case. 1
