Customer Reviews

Worked fine for a few years.Worked fine for 3.5 years. However, two months ago my system had a black-screen crash that required a hard reset to recover from. Ever since then, my system would blue screen immediately upon putting any load on the GPU. I confirmed my other power supplies worked fine (Corsair RM650 and Seasonic Snow Silent 750W) and ran several intensive benchmarks without any crashes or hiccups when using them. The system would consistently crashed whenever I put this unit back in. 3Going strong so far...I needed a small enough PSU that would fit inside a Jonsbo UMX1 Plus case and still clear a long GPU. At 140mm length and fully modular, this just barely fit the bill. I was put off at first from the Bronze rating and the fact that I've never paid <$100 to power my high end hardware, but after a long search I just couldn't find a PSU similar to this (or better) that was fully modular, 140mm in length, and whose reviews across the net didn't show many reporting DOA/dead within (x) amount of time.Pros: Very quiet fan and no buzz/coil whine coming from the PSU at all. Single 12v rail and fully modular with cables that are low profile/easy to bend. Only 140mm in length!Cons: Cable connectors can be difficult to release/plug-in. If you're using an angled power cord (depending on how it is angled) it will not be able to be pushed all the way into the PSU due to the I/O switch getting in the way. Use of Chinese TEAPO 85c and similarly branded capacitors could affect long term durability.I've used this PSU for only a week with excellent results, so fingers crossed it continues to work like this for some time to come (or until I find a much better replacement). 5No problems so far (2009 - 2012)Has been powering an overclocked i7 EE, 3 video cards, 8 fans, a large liquid cooling pump, and 13 drives (mixture of HDDs, SSDs, and optical drives) for 3 years. Haven't had any problems.Lots of power options but not enough molex and sata connectors for 13 drives so splitters are needed. The cables are plenty long for reaching the far corners of a massive case. The tough part is buying a big enough UPS to back this thing... Good news is it has the capacity to handle brownouts/very brief blackouts pretty well... I've seen the lights blink but the computer stays on. 5Perfect Fit, Perfect PSUThis is my second Silverstone PSU (also own ST1000-P). The modular cables are excellent quality; connections are simple with security snaps. This one powers my older i7-950 setup (replaces a Kingwin 600w). It works as advertised, no hiccups...I recommend Silverstone PSUs for quality and performance.P.S. - Almost forgot the one thing I don't like about this PSU (also with my ST1000-P). It has no off-on switch! I've installed a 3-prong in-line off-on switch where the PSU plug meets the UPS so I can completely shutdown power when working on the motherboard (it's much easier than yanking the plug out of the socket each time I need to completely power down). I'm not sure why Silverstone does not include an off-on switch on these models, but the in-line switch is an easy work-around. 5Pays for it's self in the long run.Positives:This PS (power supply) is efficient, quiet, cool, dependable and fully modular. I have owned this PS over a year and it is in a Media Center PC that is on all the time. It has worked perfectly to date.Negitives:No on/off switch. This is not exactly Silverstone's fault but the modular cables are not interchangeable from one manufacturer to another. I tried to use a Silverstone modular molex cable in a Themaltake PS and the computer complained loudly. A quick check showed that the pinouts were different. Worse yet I bought another Thermaltake PS and the plugs were completely different than my first Thermaltake PS. So the short story is that there is no standardization of modular PS cables.I will and have purchased another:I bought this power supply for my Media Center PC. I wanted a dead quiet and highly efficient PS and this one fit the bill. I didn't really need 1000watts. The peak efficiency of this PS is at about 500watts. That is closer to what I am actually using. I have never paid this much for a PS before but I liked it so well that I purchase another one today. 5WowThis little power supply is amazing. Modular, so plugging everything in is a breeze. I can't hear it,, and I'm standing next to my build. And last but not least, the deep blue goes perfectly with the rest of my machine. 5Great power supplyExtremely nice power supply. If you're building a GPGPU (graphics processor/card for general purpose computing--graphics cards can do up to a couple of TeraFLOPS each) supercomputer using a motherboard with multiple 16X PCI-express slots (typically used for graphics cards) such as the eVGA Classified 4-way SLI, then this is the power supply for you. Installs easily, all the cables are modular, more than enough cables to hook up four graphics cards. If you do this you'll need one of the Lian Li 10-slot cases--look on the eVGA web site to find 10-slot cases compatible with the high-end motherboards. Applications for this include building your own supercomputer for video processing or similar parallelized activities, or for instance driving up to 36 or more displays simultaneously using three of the Powercolor Eyefinity 12 graphics boards. We've been using this supply for several months now and so far it works great. Solid, well made, big quiet fan, seems to be really well done. 5Great PSU, but short warranty for the priceThis PSU lasted me 4 and half years and probably 3 builds. It just started giving me random shut downs which is disappointing. I was hoping to get a couple more years out of it since I was barely using 500 watts of it. Only a 3 year warranty.I've heard people ask why full modular matters (why does the required atx plug come out) so I'll explain a few reasons why it helps for me. You can buy extended or shorter cable kits depending on your needs. Cable management can be run in either direction and more easily adjusted if you have to replace a component. If this PSU fails, it's just shy of hot swap to get your system back up since there is no need to re-run all those cables. If the price wasn't so high I would have just bought another one to avoid rebuilding my rig and I really liked it, but there are equally good units going for a good bit less with the same 3 year warranty. 3Great Modular PSU, but Full length cords.Pros- Quite modular- Quiet- Color is as expected- Each cord is full length for multiple devices of same type, great for tower with many devices.- Easy to install PSU.Cons- Full length cords, fills up the tower, but only one plug per cord were used for my setup. 4Amazing PSU researching . While I hooked it up to my oscilloscope the unit itself put out a very clean ripple without much deviation, even in demanding situation. Overall it is an excellent unit that I would recommend to anyone who has a power requirement of over 1500 Watts. 5
