Customer Reviews

Great Choice for Skype on Macs and iPhones I purchased two competing Bluetooth headsets for my business, and this Sennheiser was one of them. I needed a primary unit, and a backup unit just in case (my consulting business demands very long telephone calls throughout the day). I chose Sennheiser being a long-time user of their products (forty years!) and a fan of their build and sound quality. The build quality of the MB Pro2 is excellent, just as you would expect from Sennheiser. Solidly constructed, yet light and easily worn, the MB Pro2 feels good on the head and comfortable on the ears. The headset just seems to fit naturally, a testament to Sennheisers design team. I REALLY appreciate the integrated charging stand, easily the best feature overall of this headset (keep reading). Pairing the MB Pro2 to both my Macs (running Yosemite) and my iPhone (iOS 8.1) was easy, and I was up and running in just a few minutes. In order to test the headset, I performed a Skype test call (you record for 10 seconds and Skype plays back your recording). I immediately noticed that the sound quality was good, but a little grainy (as is usual with Bluetooth headsets). Whether this is a result of the Bluetooth codec, the mic, or the earphones, I'm uncertain. But, strangely, the boom mic just didn't pick up my voice to the extent that I was expecting -- it sounded dim and slightly distant, even though the mic is literally 2 cm from my mouth. I adjusted the headset volume to its highest level, but no joy -- still the same dim and distant presence. I was able to compensate by talking a little louder, but my voice level is noticeably unnatural at that volume and it seems like I'm being verbally assertive. After about a half-hour of testing, including disconnecting and reconnecting via Bluetooth (to see how robust the connection capability is), I felt that I understood the headset and was ready to use it.To contrast, my other headset is a BlueParrott B350-XT in a very similar configuration, but with only one earpiece (and, sadly, no integrated charging stand). The BlueParrott is solidly constructed and feels good on the head, but -- in my limited subjective testing -- has better sound quality, and at a better recorded volume than the Sennheiser. I wasn't expecting this at all. I don't have to elevate my voice with the BlueParrott, and the sounds is slightly less grainy (more "fluid"?) than the Sennheiser. So, the bottom line is this: the Sennheiser MB Pro2 XL is a very good headset, with good quality sound and excellent design features (especially the integrated charging stand) and the welcome stereo ear cans; it is a core part of my daily work life and workflow. However, if I had to do it all over again, I'd probably elect to simply get a second BlueParrott B350-XL as a backup headset as the sound quality is subjectively better, even though it doesn't come with the nifty integrated charging stand and has only one earpiece.*** One-week Update ***Long story made short, I discovered that my headset was operating on a very old release of firmware (1.0.x). I was able to determine how to update the firmware from the Sennheiser site, and was able to get the firmware up to the current 1.1.x level. Both the questionable quality audio (slight raspiness) and the poor voice pickup on the mic are now history and calls are very clean in both directions. Now, the only complaint I have is that one of the headset ear cups rests on the base of the stand when the headset is mounted on its charging station. This may actually be an intentional design feature that stabilizes the headphones while being charged. My only concern is that the matte surface on the headphones may wear down over time by regularly scuffing the base of the stand. Not a big deal, but something to note. This is now my primary headset and it now works flawlessly. I've relegated the BlueParrott to my computer bag for travel. I'm raising my rating to a full five stars. I'm absolutely thrilled with this purchase.Note that the Sennheiser updater is a Windows-based program, so you'll need access to a Windows machine (such as a family member's or friend's system) or operating system instance (such as a Windows 7 virtual machine running on your Mac) in order to perform the update. Once the update procedure is complete, you'll be able to continue using your headset on your Mac, iPhone, etc. The updater is NOT required in order to use the headset on a Mac, iPhone, etc.*** Five-month Update ***This headset is absolutely rock-solid and performs flawlessly. I use this thing for 5-8 hours per day on a daily basis, and, frankly, couldn't imagine working without it. Absolutely no complaints at this point. It's comfortable and wears well. It is well designed and everything is "in its place". The boom is the perfect length and stays just out of the way. The headset has just the correct weight (not too heavy, not too light), and it has that intangible "feeling of quality". It behaves well via Bluetooth signaling (i.e. informs my iPhone that it has been picked up off the stand which then answers the call, etc.) Sound quality remains superb, and people tell me that my voice is crystal clear on the other end. The charging stand is a God-send and keeps the headset constantly charged without me having to think about it. This has been a fantastic purchase and one that I would do again in a heartbeat. I wish all products were as well developed and integrated as these 'phones. Reiterate: 5-stars. (P.S. And, no, I have no affiliation with Sennheiser whatsoever, other than the many decades that I've been a customer of theirs). 5Very good. Meets my specific need. I have had this headset for two months. I bought this for using at work so that I could switch somewhat seamlessly between computer, cell phone, and MP3 player. The headset will remember eight devices. But, it only stays connected to two at a time. In order to connect to a third device, you have two disconnect the Bluetooth connection for one of your connected devices. My typical use is to connect with my cellphone and the dongle on my Windows PC. I listen to Pandora and when a call comes in by Skype or cellphone, I can immediately answer the call by pressing the button on the outside of the earpiece where the microphone boom connects. When the call is over, press the button again or click the phone icon in Skype to hang up and the music from pandora resumes. The same operation works with my MP3 player. Volume is controlled by the phone or by the volume rocker switch in the headset (below the earpiece where the microphone boom is connected).People tell me that I come through loud and clear when speaking. So, the microphone is very good. The microphone boom has at least 270 degrees of rotation. So you can place the boom on either side of your head. The headset has standard Bluetooth range of 10 meters (33 feet) that is relatively unobstructed. Reception range will decrease going through walls. This headset does not get really loud. It is plenty loud for listening to music and speaking on the phone. But, you shouldn't expect that it will drown out other nearby loudness. The ear pieces muffle office ambient noise, like coworker conversations, but don't expect to shut out really loud noises (it will not keep out the noise of a lawnmower that you might be pushing). Also, don't expect to turn up your rock and roll tunes to ear popping levels.I listen to jazz, easy listening, new age, classical, pop, and western music. The headset has been fine for that. I don't expect serious audiophile listening in this use and this environment. But, the music sound very good. The headset is relatively light to wear. It has about four or five positions for head size. I wear a large size hat. When I walk, taking a short break, I put in my cap and adjust the headset so it's larger to go over the cap. I then connect the MP3 player and disconnect the computer.I cannot adjust the volume on the headset using the MP3 player. It's probably an issue with the Bluetooth protocol on implemented with the player. I am using a high definition Sony Walkman. But, the volume control on the earpiece works ok. I wish the volume on the headset would go a bit higher because when I walk down the busy street, I can hear the traffic noise. The overall build is good. But, I would not want to treat this roughly. I can see that it would break easily if you tossed it in your bag. The same thing can be said for the recharging stand. I couldn't find a carrying case for taking this while traveling, so I found a generic leather case. After traveling with it, I decided it would be a bit fragile and bulky to take on quick one or two day business trips.I really like the headset. It is advertised at 15 hours talk time. I can listen and talk all day on the headset without running out of battery power. It is supposed to recharge in 2 and one half hours with your computer. That doesn't seem to work for me. So, I plug the stand and let it charge overnight.I would definitely recommend this for someone working in an office. I love to walk around when I am on conference calls, and the headset works very well for that. 4Awesome headset The input sound is great, people hear me very clearly in the other end, and the noise cancellation is great. For the output, the sound is OK and seems a little muffled and not too loud but it's clear though. If you are listening for a speech (e.g. a movie) the voice is very clear. The room experience feature is nice, it really makes hearing less stressful and the best of it is that it makes you listen to your own voice to some extent in a way that you are aware of your voice level. The headset is pretty light and it's very small that i forget i'm wearing it for hours, I was looking for something light and small as big earpads on other headphones cause me troubles and uncomfortable. When wearing them i can hear voices around me but when listening to music it blocks sounds nicely. The build quality is premium and very elegant. The battery life is as advertised and the bluetooth range works great, connection works seamlessly and very stable, it automatically reconnects when in range. The dongle does not seem to work on linux (Fedora 28), I'm using an external dongle on my PC (Plugable Bluetooth Adapter) and it works fine. Works well with MacBook Pro 2017 too.If you are using this in PC and on a voice call it will automatically switch from A2DP High Fidelity Playback Profile to Headset Profile and degrade the output sound, but this is expected and that is a limitation of the bluetooth standard at the moment and not an issue with the headset itself. If you are on a voice call you shouldn't be listening to music anyways. The voice will still be clear as if you are on the phone. If you are buying this for gaming with voice i recommend you either get a separate microphone or look for a wireless (not bluetooth) headset or get a wired one.Overall, i'm very pleased with the headset and would certainly recommend.UPDATE: I tried the BTD 800 dongle again, it turns out that it works on linux just fine, it's detectable as an audio device. 5took time to fully appreciate UPDATEThe multi-direction button for volume and mute works fine for volume, but only occasionally works for mute/unmute. Often when attempting to push the button straight in for mute/unmute instead it reports something else..which swaps the vol up/vol down direction. You can tell when it is on mute because the dongle (usb thingy) shows red instead of blue.I need to connect Sennheiser to get to the bottom of it. I contacted Amazon who really did not know what to do except share what he read here.Amazon rep gave me a phone number 615- 884-4558 that was supposed to be Sennheiser but was some guy in Nashville, TN who was a reseller I think. Enthusiastic guy who wanted to tell me all about the merits voice recognition. He went on to say that this Sennheiser MB Pro is the best for Voice Recognition.=========== UPDATE ================The mute button does not respond unless you are in a mode where the mic is on - like on a call. Then when I push the mute button it announces "mute on" or "mute off" and the USB turns from blue light to red light. If I'm not on a call or in record mode I hear two beeps and "swap volume keys"I just tested it and made a phone call the mute button did not respond until about 30 seconds after the call started and the mic was on.APART FROM THAT .I like these headphones very much. I use it for telephone calls - not so much for music. The base is heavy and the small magnet ensures that when you attach it to the base it grabs it firmly. There is a small slot on the base where you can insert the dongle when not in use. They don't seem to get all that loud even when all devices and controls are set to maximum. I thought they should get a bit louder 5Speech recognition is excellent much better than other headsets Speech recognition is excellent much better than other headsets ... works fine with Dragon/KnowBrainer. Sennheiser website leaves a little to be desired difficult to find specific areas/answers ... support responds to questions but answers are "roundabout". 5The good and the bad, combined they equal just okay I had real high hopes for this headset and it wasn't cheap. But alas, my search for the perfect Skype / GoToMeeting / music headset continues.*The good*1. The sound and the microphone clarity are both first rate. I've been on 2 hour demos and the battery lasts, the sound remains clear and the headphones are very comfortable. Since they are over the ear, I can still hear things outside of my conversations and that works great for me.2. The headset is lightweight and comfortable. It stays on my head, is completely adjustable and in many cases I forget that I even have them on.3. The blue tooth range is very good. I can walk outside my office and into other rooms and still hear someone talking.*The bad*1. The biggest problem I have is the device or the USB port, frequently goes to sleep. I've followed the instructions from Sennheiser support about changing the default power setting options but alas, that has not worked and that's a real problem. If you receive an incoming call from Skype and try to pick up, because the device has gone to sleep, the calling party cannot hear you. The only way I've found to get the audio and microphone working again is to power the headset off, wait 20 seconds and power it back on. By that time you've already lost the call. This problem, unless it can be resolved, will force me to return this device even though I've had it for 3+ months. I consider this to be a serious flaw.2. Another flaw is that there is no MB Pro2 driver providing additional features. My $50 Logitech wireless headset, at least, displays on screen whether I'm muted or not. This device does not display anything so unless you remember whether you last muted it or not, you have to toggle the mute button to tell. The headset tells you that it is muted with a voice in your eat. That's great but after 15 minutes, who can remember? All in all, I'm only partially happy with this device and will continue my quest for the perfect Skype / remote support headset that can also play stereo music. By the way, I also tried a Plantronics model but that one lacked the boom mic and to people with whom I was testing, they said it sounded like a speaker phone. 2It's an awesome headset, but for some reason they added a ... It's an awesome headset, but for some reason they added a feature to turn it off automatically after several minutes. So, if you're in the middle of a meeting.....well too bad. It does exactly what I wanted it to do but because of this feature it's made the headset completely useless to me 1Very disappointing - avoid this one. From a former Sennheiser fan I have used a Sennheiser Dect headset at my desk for several years and liked it. I needed a good mobile headset so decided to try Sennheiser again. I bought a MB Pro 2 UC Dec last year through Amazon and from the start had lots of static in one ear piece. After a few weeks I contacted Amazon and they sent me a new one and I returned the old. Guess what. Yep - Still static. Not as much so was mostly usable but didn't like it. THEN in March (3 months after getting the replacement headset the headset battery started dying. I would charge it and it would say above 10 hours talk time. Then 10 minutes later (with no use) it would say 4 hours talk time. Then within 15-20 minutes it would die. It started out lasting a few hours then an hour and now it's not worth even using. By then Amazon didn't allow for returns. So I contacted Sennheiser support. I used them in the past and they were always good. They had me update the firmware - but it didn't help. Then they said they would route the support request to another team. That was about 10 days ago and they no longer respond to my emails. So now I end up with a useless headset after barely 3 months of use. I'll have to buy another headset - but it definitely won't be a Sennheiser. If they can't deal with a bad battery issue with barely 3 months of use on a headset then I'm done with them. And I suspect the static issue might be related to the battery - but guess I'll never know. 1Impressive Product Product shipped and received very quickly. The only problem experienced upon receipt was the LYNC dongle was missing. Not a big deal for me, but I did pay for it and it should have been received. I have asked to return the original order so that I can get one with the dongle. In the meantime I am using the headset. Pairing was accomplished in a matter of minutes to my Panasonic KX-TG9382T base unit and to my iPhone 5S. I thought I could also pair it with my Macbook, but discovered that while I can pair up to 6 devices, only 2 can be active at once. The range is acceptable but not anywhere near the claimed range of 33 meters. I was skeptical of the claim and several days of usage has demonstrated that 33 meters is a pipe dream. 10 meters is a stretch even with a clear line of sight. I have been experiencing some electronic interference that I haven t been able to isolate. I can be heard by the people I call and while not overwhelming, it is certainly distracting. My base phone is DECT 6.0 which claims to eliminate such interference. I have a WIFI network for internet and printer, but don t know if that would cause interference with the bluetooth for the headset. The interference is intermittent so it may take a while to track it down. Big pluses: headset battery life (the lady inside the headset says more than 10 hours) and so far so good; Comfort - terrific! I have worn them all day (for me this means from about 7 am to 6 or 7 pm) without my ears feeling numb, burning or ringing. Overall, a nice product with excellent comfort, superior sound quality and reasonably good features. 1 star off for number of devices that can be active and interference problem. Otherwise, I d buy again and would buy again from this seller. 4By far the best business-oriented wireless headset I have ever used (and I ... By far the best business-oriented wireless headset I have ever used (and I did use quite a few, wireless and wired ones). Here is a quick overview (after ~6 months of everyday business usage).PROS- Lightweight. Can stay on for a few hours w/o any discomfort- Great battery life. I use it every day (~1hr, sometimes more) and still only need to recharge once a week.- Great sound quality (both ways, mic and headset).- Room Presence is wonderful (I turned it on and after getting used to it, left on permanently). I really like it as it does make conversations more natural sounding.- Ability to connect both phone and computer at the same time is very convenient (as some meetings would not support computer-based audio so one has to dial-in)- Exceptional with iPhone 6- Great Mac OS X compatibility (up to El Capitan 10.11.x; latest at the moment).- Great Microsoft Lync for Mac compatibility (to the point it even muted the mic when you join a Lync meeting or presenter has elected to mute all participants). Also works great with AT&T Connect (Mac) for those who use it.- Supplied USB dongle enables high quality of sound (voice) and is recognized by Mac OS X w/o any driversCONS- Originally, I thought the price was high (I could not have imagined spending that much on a headset). Now, after 6 months I think it is very reasonable considering the overall features/performance.- Music quality sucks. Don't consider that you can use this headset for music; it is not designed for that. It's low frequency response is cut ~150Hz so lows do not exist here. Imagine Senheiser headphones with dark sound signature (subtle highs) but w/o lows? No, not for me.- (not really cons, just a note) One must use supplied USB dongle. While headset supports standard bluetooth profiles, if connected directly to Mac (no dongle), voice quality through Lync is terrible (occasional dropouts/cannot understand anything). This never happens through the supplied USB dongle.Overall, very happy with it and would definitely highly recommend it for business usage. 5
