Description

It was just a letter. Cryptic, yes. Absurd? Absolutely. But Seattle software tycoon Micah Taylor can’t get it out of his mind ― this claim that a home was built for him, by a great uncle he never knew, on the Oregon coast. In Cannon Beach. The one place he loves. The one place he never wants to see again. Micah goes to Cannon Beach intending to sell the house and keep his past buried, but the nine thousand square-foot home instantly feels like it’s part of him. Then he meets Sarah Sabin at the local ice cream shop . . . Maybe Cannon Beach can be a perfect weekend getaway. But strange things happen in the house. Things Micah can’t explain. Things he can barely believe. All the locals will say is that the house is “spiritual.” Unsettling, since Micah’s faith slipped away like the tide years ago. And then he discovers the shocking truth: the home isn’t just spiritual, it’s a physical manifestation. Of his soul. Will Micah run ― or will he risk everything to see what waits for him deep within the house’s ROOMS?

Customer Reviews

Fantasy Island: Holy Ghost EditionFantasy Island: Holy Ghost Edition.A captivating spiritual journey of self-discovery and the search for truth. A vivid depiction of Holy Ghost encounters and visions. And a poignant story of what ifs.Within each visitation, Micah Taylor is drawn more fully in Truth. And awareness of his choices becomes clear. And when the gauntlet is thrown, Choose you this day whom you will serve, Micah is convinced he can have both.It was easy to read this story from an outsider perspective, urging Micah to choose the good thing. The right thing. But the deep and profound Truth of this story is we all are faced with The Choice: the narrow way or the wide path. And the shiny lure and ease of the wide path woos us so sweetly. It was easy to chastise Micah for teetering on the fence. Until we realize that we all teeter on the fence.Rooms is a story that gives the reader pause to think, to consider. How many times has Holy Spirit sent visions and visitations that we didn t recognize or stop to acknowledge? What if Micah Taylor was watching us when we received the cryptic letter? Would he chastise us for teetering on the fence? Or would he cheer us on as we make the choice for Truth?I purchased this book on Amazon. I offer my review of my own free will, and the opinions expressed in my review are my own honest thoughts and reaction to this book.#Blogwords, Tuesday Reviews-Day, #TRD, Book Review, Rooms, James L. Rubart 5An amazing ride of twists and turns and I never saw it coming!I almost never give a 5 star review. Every book seems to be lacking something to make it the top. This book gets a rousing 5 star review. Someone wrote if Peretti wrote the shack it would be this book. I love peretti and I really enjoyed the twists of the shack but this book is far better. Imagine, someone loves you enough to build you a mansion really, and knows you well enough that it suits you perfectly and has your memories in it, then imagine the person is long dead and you can't even remember him. He also seems to know your every thought and move. Hmm... what would you give up for that? Mysterious doors appear? Mysterious strangers? Odd unexplainable happenings. Oh yes, this book causes you to think of Gods love and what he wants to give us, if we'll only allow Him to take charge. I truly had a hard time putting it down and stayed up late too many nights reading it. Will look for more from this author but he has set the bar pretty high for himself! By the way, I forgot to mention it isn't a horror book. Thriller yes, suspenseful yes, but not scary or horror. 5Christian Paranormal Romance? As a co-owner of a multi-million software company, Micah Taylor is a successful businessman who by all means has earned his way in life. When Micah asked his father about the letter from great uncle Archie, inquiring as to whether or not the man would actually build him a 9,000 square ft house, his father basically said Micah should ignore it. But seeing it is a whole other thing, making Micah think he may keep the house instead of selling it, which had been his original plan. Micah instantly fell in love with it upon seeing the gorgeous home on the beach, and didn t want to go back to Seattle once he was there, but the plan Archie had in mind got him there and change was about to happen. When Micah decided he possibly wanted to do both, have the Cannon Beach house and his life in Seattle, things start to change. A lot. A change for the better, or is it a change for the worst?Rooms by James Rubart is a different kind of novel. It speaks levels of so many kinds, that of paranormal, of God, the Holy Spirit and a very great kind of change in a man s life. I found it to be quite intriguing, and a real possibility if a person actually believed in these kinds of things. However, some of it, probably not, but I ll just leave it at that. I enjoyed this book, it held my interest, I read it quickly and characterization was great, though some of it seemed a little repetitive at times. I would recommend it. Great suspense! 4Definitely one I will cherish and read again and again! This is such a powerful story that really reaches into one's heart and shows you things that need to be made clear. I have read the Bible almost daily for over 40 years, and although I have memorized a lot of it, some parts have always eluded me with their archaic and symbolic wording and anachronistic references. But reading this book has brought many of my favorite scripture passages into a new light and a new form of understanding. Things that made only a glimmer of sense before are now very clear. I thank Mr. Rubart for that... nice job!As to the writing, I found the conversations natural, the descriptions enough to get a picture but not so much to drone on and on, and the spelling and grammar were spot on. I don't recall seeing any editing mistakes or those dreadful "spell check" errors one tends to see in digital books. His writing style is tight and keeps you running at a good pace - not so slow you lose interest, nor so fast you feel like you're going to miss something important or like he's trying to rush you to a conclusion.I very highly recommend this book not only to Christians but to anyone who enjoys a good mystery and "paranormal" read. 5Intriguing plot but3.5What was really engaging about this book was its originality. As Micah goes between two worlds, they change. His decisions have tremendous effects and seeing these unfold are what makes this book a real page turner. My hesitation with this is the theological aspects. Micah gets a lot of spiritual advice here. Eventually as a reader you recognize that the advice conflicts. Some of it is from God, some from Satan. My concern is with the authoritative way both perspectives are presented - this could lead to some reader confusion. Of course the intention here is good - people are pointed to Jesus and the Bible eventually very clearly. And with-holding clarity at the start does make the book more intriguing for the reader. Perhaps my main issue is I don t believe God could or would work like this. However, this is a very interesting story and I can see people reading this that otherwise wouldn t read Christian fiction. I just hope they read to the end. 3When Choices Threaten Eternal LifeJames L. Rubart, through his story of Micah Tayler, did a magnificent job showing the consequences of making life choices from a spiritual warfare standpoint. As people, we all make choices that take us down one path or another toward or away from heaven, God and eternity. Rubart's story of Micah Taylor brought the outcome of Micah's choices into clear view using Biblical teaching and scripture allowing the reader to see and feel the struggles Micah went through as he made decisions based on his own personal desires. Rubart's imagery was spectacular drawing the reader into the plot. Rooms is a story I won't soon forget. It's one of the best I have read using a fictional story to unveil the spiritual warfare that goes on daily for our lives. It helps the reader understand what could happen to them if they are careless with their choice. 5It was a strange ride and I enjoyed the interesting ways the author used to deal with ...Just picked this up on a whim during its sale price. I wasn't expecting it to be a Christian supernatural book. I'm not religious, but still found this book to be very compelling. It was a strange ride and I enjoyed the interesting ways the author used to deal with past trauma's and how unconscious pain and conflicts can impact someone's life so profoundly. For those that aren't that keen on Christian religion I think they can still enjoy this, since its focus is on the love and redemption qualities of modern Christianity, rather than dogma or the more controversial elements of the Bible itself.I think this book can be inspiring for the believer and the non-believe alike and its a solid supernatural tale with a main character who is heavily conflicted. Will consider other works of this author after reading this, thanks for writing this story. 5Have you ever read My Heart, Christ s Home ? That tiny book, about turning your heart into various rooms of a home and inviting Christ into each one to do a thorough cleaning, seems to be the premise for Rubart s book Rooms: a novel . The main character has had severe trauma as a child and consequently walked away from God and family in lieu of a life he could fully control that is centered around work. One day at the office he receives an official notice that a deceased uncle, seemingly unknown to him, has bequeathed him an extremely valuable, beachfront home. After one weekend visit to supposedly set up the sale of this place, our protagonist is off on an adventure of discovery and forgiveness that will reunite with his father and his FATHER. A bit difficult to catch on to the shifting times, places and POV s but you ll find it uplifting and worth the effort. 4Can be read more than once and should beI know this is a Christian but it would be helpful to anyone. It reminded me of Larry Crabbs book Inside Out . It helps you look into your subconscious and take a serious look into your Self side and Gods side and the issues they cost. In this case it cost the main character a dream situation. It also reminds me of the Bible verse about seek and you will find. The doors to the Rooms show me that that verse can work both ways. You can open a door to your self will or one to Gods will.Reading the book, I lost track of time. It is so well written and so smooth that I finished the book in 4 hours. Only other book that I can say that I read in that amount of time was This Present Darkness .Even if you do not believe in God but you want to see how the mind can work you should read this. I want to read this again because I know I missed some areas. I want to read other books by James Rubart. 5IntriguingI felt moved when I first started this book, however, the middle and ending had me scrunching my eyebrows together in wonderment/confusion.How the author was trying to inform us that God will take all of what we love about our life, (good or bad) away, if we do not give it up ourselves for him, baffled and kind of angered me. To be honest.I loved the different rooms and visualizing how we forgive, love, heal, atone, and can be forgiven ourselves. The double life thing and the voice , made me feel uncomfortable. Even though I appreciated the outlook God was giving him of the two lives he could be leading. I was confused in a few areas. It wasn t lining up for me. The voice, even though I was uncomfortable with the description, I realize not all religions view demons the same, but an actual monster-type, in this beautiful book of God s love and peace, had me squirming a little.I felt sad that God was the blame for him losing his worldly things and even his relationship with Sarah, but if he didn t go along with things, it spiraled out of control more for him.God is not a god of chaos. He is a God of order and peace. And if it does not bring you those things, it isn t of Him.Anyway, loved the concept though.I never write reviews, but this one gave me more to chew. 3
