Customer Reviews

Must get if it works for your laptop. Wont be sorry. I read TONS of reviews on anything that I buy from amazon. This product is no exception. I have had this since 2013 (just getting around to reviewing it) and for 2 solid years I have used it on my Mac laptop and it has been 100% everytime AWESOME. I watch HULU and Amazon Prime movies and use my tv as a second monitor. It is fantastic. Very well built, havent had ANY problems whatsover. If it breaks, I am coming right back here to buy another one. My wife and I don't believe in "cable" because all of our shows are pretty much on Amazon on Hulu so we use it atleast 3 times a week. Recommended buy. 5Don't waste your money or time. It didn't work the first time I tried it, but I kept plugging in and unplugging it and it eventually worked. I noticed that it would make the image on the tv flash on and off if the cord was touched or moved at all. I suspected a loose wire. I was right. I have only used this a handful of times (about 4). Last night, it worked after lots of moving the cord around, now it won't work at all. I think this item had the most and highest ratings of all the mini DVI to HDMI adapters I saw on Amazon, so I bought it, but the negative reviews seem to be correct. Too bad this is such poor quality. Apple doesn't make this adapter and they don't sell one by another manufacturer. I called the Apple store. They suggested I try Monoprice. We'll see how that works out. 1Early 08 macbook to my LCD TV - Plus a few tips I used this cord to hook my early 2008 macbook to my 47" hdtv. It worked like a charm. The process was for the most part painless. But please note SOUND IS NOT TRANSFERRED WITH THESE CORDS!! yes HDMI does do sound but not in this case due to the mac dvi. To get sound to your tv a standard auxiliary cord must run from the laptops headphone jack to the HDMI SOUND outlet in the back of your TV (check first that your tv has this outlet. Some tv's will have to use a 3.5mm to Y slitter white/red plug). For my TV I needed to put the mac on HDMI1 and set the tv to input sound from the auxiliary port and presto sound worked wonderfully.I also had some over scan issues when I first hooked up my laptop, a quick change of screen options to natural eliminated this.I now have a 1080p picture that fits my screen perfect and has sound.I also chose to run my laptop in clam shell mode. To do these you must pair either a Bluetooth mouse or keyboard to your laptop, change your preferences to allow the Bluetooth device to wake the laptop, and then simply close the lid. When you move the mouse/keyboard to wake the computer it will act as if the TV is the laptop screen and you will be in clam shell mode. A great option if your using your macbook as a HTPC.Cheap and work well. Couldn't ask for more. 5works with my imac7 to hdtv I got this to hook up my desktop imac7 to my hdtv. I had problems getting it to work at first, my computer wasn't detecting the display. The apple store then sold me $22 mini-dvi attachment for a composite cable which gave the very worst picture imaginable with horrible resolution and black and white. So I tried this product one more time - the key was to shut down my computer and turn off the tv, then hook up the cables, then start the computer and tv. Oh, and I needed an audio cable which I realized after I had no sound...I'm not very technically savvy...Anyway, I was very happy to save the $22 and get this part instead!I'm giving it only 4 stars because the part that plugs into my computer is hard to get in, doesn't fit smoothly like the mini-dvi from the apple store. It makes me worry that it'll break if I need to unplug it and plug back in a lot. 4Defective on arrival, poor quality, avoid! Product did not work at all. It came quickly, but when I plugged the included HDMI cable into the adapter the cable popped right back out. Not sure if the sizing isn't right or something is bent... but it literally ejects the cable after plugging it into the adapter. I tried a different HDMI cable and the same thing happened. I am NOT going to tape it together to make it hold on.Before returning I figured I'd try the HDMI cable, maybe just keep it for the HDMI cable. Used the cable alone with my Roku and the TV flashed the picture on and off over and over again in an endless loop. A known good HDMI cable obviously worked with this known good Roku, proving the HDMI cable in this kit was also bad. 1Awesome cables for a fraction of the retail price When you make this purchase you get two cables, so I'll cover them separately.Mini-DVI to HDMI Cable:In the world of cables, quite honestly you can get a good deal and still expect a high quality product. This cable is very high quality. It is built very solidly, it's thick, the connections on each end are sturdy and do not wiggle or bend at all.I have mine connected from my mini-divi port on my white plastic macbook, and on the other end I've connected an HDMI cable to an external 24 inch ASUS monitor. The monitor's HDMI cable (male) plugs into the end of this cable (HDMI female).HDMI Cable:This is basically an unlabeled HDMI cable from a major manufacturer (you'll know which one when you receive it). Which means the included HDMI cable would retail separately for about $50. With that said, you can expect extremely high build quality in the HDMI cable. Mine was thick and braided with nylon mesh. Very nice.Clear picture, no lines or noise at all. Admittedly I am not sitting near any appliances containing electric motors, but I don't expect that would create a problem. All in all, this is an excellent product, and I probably would have paid twice as much for it. This is an insane combo for the price! 5Adapter did not fit I bought this cable to fit a 2009 White Macbook, and a 2005 iMac. Both had mini DVI ports. Now, before I begin, let me state that I work on Apple products for a living, and I wanted to try and use this cable because my macbook's display does not always function.Adapter did not want to connect to my computer. I wiggled it, I put it in at an angle, I even applied heavy amounts of pressure. Cable did not seem to connect, or submit video feed to my television. I know the HDMI port works, because I own an HDMI to mini display for my girlfriend's Mac, and it works like a charm. I was worried that any more pressure would break my ports, or damage the adapter, and I would not be able to return it.I may have simply received a bad mini-dvi adapter, but I am returning it today. Buyers beware. 2Mini-DVI to HDMI I had my doubts about this cable when I first saw it. First off the price seemed way to low to be true and I thought that the cable might break as soon as I used it. It also comes with a HDMI cable which go for around $20. When I actually got it though, I was surprised that it worked and is still in good shape, 3 months after I bought it. It works wonderfully and as long as you know a little about macs, its easy to figure out how to set it up and get it working. The one thing I would like to remind you, is that most people I know think that this cable also transits sound, it does not. It is purely video so if you want to transmit sound as well you need a separate cable. The HDMI cable is good quality and worked really well. It made all those afternoons watching anime on my HDTV from my macbook really enjoyable. I'd say if you want to enjoy movies or games on your TV from your computer then I would highly recommend this. 51st didn't work, replacement is fine, customer service was great. UPDATE 2012-11-19: I received a replacement from the vendor today and it works fine. I guess I just got a bad one the first time, as I had suspected. They shipped the replacement quickly and were very polite about the whole thing. I'm now satisfied and have changed my 1-star rating to 5-stars. What follows is my original negative review:I purchased this adapter to use with my mid-2007 20" iMac to connect a second monitor (a Samsung 27" S27B350H). The adapter allows the HDMI monitor to be detected by my Mini-DVI Mac, but the image just blinks in an annoying cycle (on briefly then off for a long time) and is very badly distorted especially around the edges - completely unusable even for trying to muck around with the settings. The monitor works fine when connected to my 3rd Gen AppleTV and cable box and other HDMI sources. So that's not the problem. The HDMI cable that's included as a "bonus" with the adapter works fine, for video at least. I didn't test it with any audio (the monitor I'm using has no speakers or audio out). Given how expensive HDMI cables can be, this is an excellent "bonus" item. But I didn't buy this for the HDMI cable; I have more than I can use already. I purchased this for the adapter, and that doesn't work.I'm going to try to get a replacement in the hope that I just got a "bad" one. If I get the replacement and it works, I'll change the rating and update this review. 5MINI-DVI AND HDMI adapter saved me hundreds. I bought this product because I damaged my screen on my laptop MAC Book 1181. It is 9 years old. To fix the laptop screen it would have cost anywhere from $100 to $200 dollars. I was looking for a way for me to fix the screen myself and I ran across a video on youtube that showed me how you could connect your computer to your television. So long story short I bought these items, and I am using my TV to run my laptop. I have access to all of my data. When I buy a new laptop computer I will transfer the data from the old laptop to the new one. But now I can use my old laptop until I find a new laptop I will like. 5
