Customer Reviews

Had some issues This was installed in a very deep well cast iron sink.Took several tries and a BOATLOAD of putty to seal. The threads are a little thin to the nut ,so it jumped from over tightening and I had to beat it to get it back on track to remove it and add more putty. Also, the paper gasket that is suppose to go between the nut and rubber......throw it away ,it'll just tear and gum up the deal.. 4Rusts bad! This product started rusting after a couple of weeks of use. It's now passed the return date so I'm stuck with a rusty sink strainer. Not sure why a company would make a product for a sink that comes in contact with water everyday, that will rust. Would not buy again nor recommend for others to buy. 1It's not ALL stainless steel! If you buy this, better buy the replacement basket too to have it handy when this one fails! Looked and worked great until one day I tried to turn the stopper and it wouldn't come out. After bailing out the water in the sink I was lucky that I could use pliers to twist the stem and get the stopper out. Looking closely, you can see that the nut underneath is rusted and the wings that you twist to open is made of potmetal. No excuse that all of the parts are not made of material that will not rust, since it is always in water!!! 1Great Sink Strainer We just finished a kitchen remodel and used this in our big kitchen sink. It is very will made with sturdy stainless steel and the wide seal helps to keep a good seal. I hate it when I fill my sink with soapy dishwater only to have it seep out so I purchased this item to avoid this problem and so far it is working very well! No leaking water. We have had it installed for only 1 month now but I had a similar product from another company in my previous kitchen sink which we had for several years and it never leaked. This particular brand is more sturdy and has a better seal. I highly recommend it. 5These are the way to go This is the only style to go with. Unlike the cheap and annoying variety that spin around and stop the drain when you don't want them to, these consistently release the water when you want them to -- without large gaps that let big particles of food slip through -- and their quick and easy screw-down design makes a reliable seal. 5Liked the sturdiness of the assembly Liked the sturdiness of the assembly. Retaining nut substantial & easy to seat.I've had these installed for a little over 3 months now & the strainer assembly is starting to show signs of rusting (on the bottom disk that's used to seal/hold water in the sink).I like everything about these 'except' the surface rust that's on the strainer. 3EXCELLENT QUALITY - EXCELLENT PRICE - EXCELLENT OPERATION Then why not five stars? Because it is a sink strainer basket and I am not going to "love" it. The other reason is the tailpiece washer provided, but I'll get to that later. The basket is all metal, including the "turn 2 seal" surfaces that hold the water in the sink . Once installed, I left an inch of water in both sink bowls and when I came back in four hours, the water was still there. Amazingly, the strainer baskets with the rubber seals are much more likely to leak (check reviews), and down the road, when you look for a replacement for the greasy rubber ring at the hardware store, you won't find it.The product I received does not have the horizontal openings in the basket as pictured on Amazon as another reviewer mentioned. It doesn't effect function, but it's a detail one would expect a vendor to update---how difficult is that? What does affect functionality is that the tail piece for the basket is an 1-1/2" pipe and the washer that comes with the basket has an 1-1/4" hole. The reason is that typically kitchen sink drains are 1-1/2" and vanity sinks are 1-1/4" and someone in the manufacturing end thought that using one size washer for all sinks would squeeze another two cents of profit out of the sale. What that stupid decision means for you and everyone else with a sink is that the sink drain size is effectively reduced and the food particles that should wash down the drain instead collect and clog the drain leaving you to poke at the pieces with a fork 'cause they are too small to pick out of the drain. Take a look in your drain after you install this and you will see the translucent seal encroaching on half the opening. Unfortunately, it doesn't matter what strainer basket you buy. My neighbor paid $55.00 each for some strainer baskets from Lowes and got the same washer which, by the way is a thin piece of plastic that does not compress or have any resilience---exactly the properties that make a washer seal the space between two ill-fitting surfaces. He had to use teflon tape on the threads to get the tailpiece to not leak. The proper size rubber washer that you could buy anywhere five years ago is no longer readily available. So again, just four stars.THE WASHER: The tailpiece washer goes on top of the tailpiece flange inside the nut. Go to the hardware store and buy an O-ring that fills the nut and is an eighth of an inch or so thick 4Not recommended unless you like rust. Installed right before Christmas and now, less than two months later, extensive rust on sealing plug. The stem and "S" handle are non-corrosive stainless or die cast metal but the strainer and sealing plug are plain steel with nickel plating. The plating is holding up except where the stem is fastened to the plug. No excuse for manufacturing an item like this completely from non-rusting materials. 1What's not to love? The strainer sits level when open What's not to love? The strainer sits level when open, eliminating that gap all other strainers have, thereby catching more trash. It seals tightly and securely, when twisted. It doesn't open accidentally, because you bumped it with something while closed. Nor does it 'fall' into the closed position by accident. Only had it a few months, but it doesn't seem like it will fall apart any time soon. Why did it take so long for someone to make a strainer correctly? 10 stars. 5Dimensions advertised are not accurate the dimensions listed on the description are not even close the actual dimensions. They advertise the flange as being 5.25" across. It's only 4.25". We specifically bought this because we needed a large flange for our vintage farmhouse sink. Do not buy this if you are going by the dimensions on the description. 2
