Customer Reviews

good design! pouch is nice but a little bulky haven't tried it in the field yet but this product looks like it is well designed, it looks like it will serve me well. just wish the pouch was a little more compact so it would fit in my camera pouch along with the battery and SD card.UPDATE: I took the polarizer out today. First of all the polarizer itself works well. however, the magnet is weak and the polarizer can fall off too easily. Mine actually fell on the beach and a little boy found it a few minutes later...second, the supplied pouch is terrible, the filter keeps falling out of it, it fell out of the pouch and into my backpack three times! If it were an option I would give this product two and a half stars, but I'll leave it at three because after all the filter did get me some nice shots today... 3great solution for camera shortcomings Works great. This is an eminently practical solution for a design flaw on my camera where otherwise a filter could not be attached reasonably. The quality of the optics is fine; maybe not the clearest out there but certainly the clearest that will attach to my camera (and the ONLY!)This is my third Magfilter for the same camera. I have lost two the same way; pushing the camera up to a gap in fencing/grates. If you let the camera hit the grate, the filter could pop off and fall on the other side of the grate. In my last instance, it was 400 feet down to pavement! So my fault. I suppose the magnet could be made stronger, but that would also mean the attachment ring that sticks to the camera would have to be thicker and heavier.UPDATE: Lost yet another, this time it must have fallen off while putting my camera in it's case. A stronger magnet is really needed to keep this from happening. So I've knocked off one star. 4If you shoot outdoors, you need this filter. Assuming I have enough light, I always use a circular polarizer when shooting outdoors. I was considering purchasing the Sony DSC-RX100 M4 and before I actually bought it I did some research to see if there was a way to mount a CPF on it. I then discovered this terrific product. They kit includes 2 metal rings and a pouch to store the filter in. It's easy to install the ring. You just have to be careful to align the ring with the camera lens so it is perfectly centered. The filter snaps on securely and stays in place. Even when taking the camera in and out of my pants pocket it didn't fall off. The quality of the glass appears to be very good, I don't see any imperfections. It's a simple and easy process to rotate the filter at the end of the lens to acquire the best angle. The only thing I would change is the storage pouch. It's designed to clip on to your belt, or belt loop. It's kind of big for what it does and kind of flops around. I would have preferred a smaller plastic case that I could put in my pocket. The attached picture is a jpeg straight from the camera using the filter. Got to love that deep blue sky. 5MagFilter 42 fits Panasonic ZS30 MagFilter 42 -- Downloaded the template info from the CarrySpeed Magfilter web site to check for fit with the Panasonic zs30. Works great -- hardly adds anything to the camera facing. Now I can take the camera into the high backcountry where having a polarizer is frequently essential. And park the bigger heavier camera I usually take. The MagFilter comes with a spare adhesive ring and small protective bag with belt loop clip that is just large enough for maybe another little something.Definitely has a decent polarizing effect and seems to work flawlessly from wide to zoom without clipping the corners at wide shots. The ZS30s wide angle is so wide that darker polarizing blue sky effect may start to diminish at the edges. This is probably related to the polarizing physics of blue sky and a very wide angle rather than the MagFilter 42 CPL. Zoomed in a little, the blue sky polarizing is solid across the picture. Seems to have decent reflection polarizing off of green leaves in wide angle. Haven't had a chance to check out lake reflection just yet.Next I have to figure out how to protect the CPL on the camera -- there's no lens cap. Unprotected, it seems to be easy to get finger prints on -- the ZS30 is a compact camera marvel, which also means it will take some user training not to get grubby finger prints over critical components, like a CPL. Unpowdered latex gloves work for handling without prints, but for general use...? I'm going to try a small carrying case and/or dig up a lens cap. The issue with a lens cap may be the cap and filter could be easy to knocked off the camera as the filter is just held on by magnetics. Perhaps the case's spare pocket will just barely be big enough to hold the CPL when not in use? 5On my Sony DSC-HX50V it is pleasing, but not perfect PROS: o Provides a way to put a polarizing filter on a camera with no provision for such (which I desperately wanted to do) o Removes reflected glare, improves color saturation and contrast o Relatively easy to installCONS: o Very slight vignetting in upper corners when zoomed out o NO installation instructions or package contents listI would buy this again, but read on for my observations of caveats and addendums...Overall, I am pleased with the filter, it does improve the quality of the images, if I do my part to rotate the filter so that the polarization is oriented effectively for the particular shot. It comes with two adhesive magnetic rings, one that is magnetically attached to the filter, and a second one in a small zip closure plastic bag, so you have a "spare" ring, either for use on a second camera, or to provide a second attempt at a perfect installation of your first attempt is unacceptable. The installation of the magnetic ring to the front of the lens is very exacting; it has to be PERFECT (at least on this particular camera0. Although I tried to be as careful as possible, it would appear that I got the magnetic ring shifted about 1 millimeter towards the bottom, which is likely the cause of the very sight vignetting in the upper corners of the images when the lens is set for the widest field of view. I am hesitant to remove the ring for a second try, as I am not sure if I can do any better the second time, and I would "spend" the second ring included with no assurance it would be improved... wish I had some way to exactly position the ring as it is being adhered. The magnet seems sufficiently powerful to hold the filter securely. Once installed, the filter does present itself as an easy target for one's hands/fingers to apply smudges... just the nature of the beast; not a show stopper or flaw per se, but something of which to be aware. Durability of the adhesive, or lack thereof, remains to be seen... only time will tell. 4A must have! Works great! A must have! This thing is amazing, I have been wanting to get an effective polarizer for a point & shoot for a long time. There are landscape photos that need it so much. I had been holding a filter up in front of the lense before, but this is so much more effective. Very well made, great magnet. Feels very secure. Adds so much to the photos, night and day difference. Finally, that little extra point & shoots needed to be comparable to interchangeable lenses with threads for filters! 5the darker one is with the CPL, the lighter one is without the CPL This is a pretty decent filter and I have used it quite a bit. The only real issue is the holding strength. I already lost one of these off of a radio tower because I bumped the camera kinda hard and it came off. I cannot fault the manufacturer, I knew when I bought it that magnets are not the most secure way to bond two things together. So I have purchased 2 of these so far, these are not too expensive. One of the major benefits is the flat metal ring that attaches to the front of the camera does not stick out hardly at all. The RX100M3 lens extends fully at the widest angle when you turn it on, then gets shorter as you zoom in. So when I use my waterproof housing the metal ring does not interfere with the lens extending (the waterproof housing has only a little clearance at the end of the lens tube). Any more length on the filter attachment would end up preventing the lens from fully extending in my housing, likely causing some damage to the lens.Optical quality is very good, not the highest end, but better than most. I did notice some very slight irregularity's in the surface of the glass, but they do not seem to have any affect on the pictures I have taken. The main thing is that my small point and shoot has a CPL, which I consider a essential tool for pictures. Its not the end-all-be-all, and it does not need to be. It does its job well and gives me the results that I want. 4Convenient and Effective I am using this filter on a Sony RX100 II and also installed one on my sister's RX100. This kit comes with the magnetic filter itself, two self adhesive metal rings to install onto the front of your camera lens, and a handy carrying pouch. You install the metal rings by peeling off the wax paper backing and exposing the adhesive side already applied to the ring. The kit gives no assistance or tools to help apply the ring on center, you just have to eyeball it. The adhesive is very sticky and does not seem like it will come off easily so try to get it right the first time. The filter itself is larger than the lens opening on this camera, so if it is off-center a bit, it probably will not affect the image, but if you are picky like me, you won't want to have a wacky off-center filter on your camera.Once the ring is installed onto the lens, you just move the filter close to it and the magnets will click and hold on. I was concerned about how well the magnets would hold, but one time I forgot that the filter was on and stuck the camera out the window of a moving car at freeway speeds and the magnets held it on fine. I just returned from A three week trip during which I was using the filter frequently and never had a problem with the filter falling off due to "natural causes" such as gravity, wind, etc. However, I did end up dropping the filter twice due to accidents like my hand brushing across the edge of the filter which moving my arm to pick something up. Luckily, the glass did not break and I only ended up with some cosmetic dings on the edge of the filter. The carrying case is pretty nifty. It is a pouch made out of neoprene with a slit on one side that can be covered with a flap to hold the filter in. The case has a small plastic clip so you can clip it to something for convenient access. I really like the case, although I did have the problem of the filter falling out at one point. I can't remember if I had the flap over the slit at the time but now I make sure the flap is over the slit and also clip the pouch so it is inside of a zippered pocket on the outside of my messenger bag.As far as filter performance, the polarization effect is good enough. Two cases where it performed well as removing reflections from the surface of ocean waves in the Caribbean and also cutting through some haze to a distant theme. It also adds some depth to blue skies. The polarization effect is adjusted just by rotating the filter on its magnetic mount. There is no separate rotating ring like on full-size polarizer lenses. I did notice that this rotation usage causes metal on metal contact. The black surface of the mounting ring is showing signs of a line where the filter is making contact during rotation and the red surface of the filter shows some wear as well. While this is just cosmetic, if a bright ring is eventually worn into the black ring, it may be unsightly on the front of your camera.Overall, the MagFilter is a convenient way to add a polarizer to a point and shoot camera that does not have threads. The magnetic mount is very easy to use, but has its downside in that it can easily be knocked off by a hand motion in the wrong place. 4Perfect exactly what I wanted I had ordered this from another seller and I received it but it did not have the glass to protect the camera lens, But this one is perfect and I can say it was very easy to apply what I did was place it on with a closed lens and didn't press it down until I knew the placement was correct and it turned out perfect!very happy with my purchase highly recommend it and very fast delivery with amazon prime! 5A must have for any point and shoot. I'm an automotive photographer and my company is using Samsung galaxy cameras. This is my most valuable tool shooting cars. Creates photos with richer colors and removes unwanted reflections and glare from shan't new cars. Especially black ones. I always use a CP filter on my dslrs but having to shoot with this smart camera with no threads I feared I'd be stuck shooting without any filters so this makes my work stand out against the dozens of other photographers in my company across the country. 5
