Customer Reviews

So good I set up another one for family Realized a family member had an old Belkin G series router. No updates, just waiting to get hit. Ordered this from the 3G store once again (they are really great and friendly) and had it shipped to their house. Other than them being stuck on Cox I was able to have everything set up in 10 minutes. Two hours of rebooting the Cox modem to get the phone service to remain on. Did the update to take the router to version 7 and no complaints about speed (much faster to all devices), home and devices are much safer, and I can always reach out to the 3G store staff should I have any issues (did I mention those folks are great and very friendly!) 5Great little unit. Worked as discribed. I connected a Verizin Mifi to the pep link and it boost the signal all around my house. 1800sq ft. Also got my security camera system hooked to it via Ethernet and it broadcast clear video footage to the Internet so I can view on my phone.Make sure you go into the settings and click "max signal boost" and turn on the external antenna. It don't come set that way from factory. 5Buy this and don't bother with anything else. Unlike the consumer equipment, the web interface is informative and responsive. It is easy to set up and works great. Additionally, I scanned the router and found no security issues; my former wireless router had unpatched security issues, and Netgear had no plans to upgrade the firmware. Meanwhile, Peplink still updates the firmware. Since it is enterprise grade, it stays connected for a long time; I have purchased this wireless router for both my home and a non-profit; neither unit has lost the connection, nor have they had to be rebooted. I am surprised this unit is not sold at office supply stores, which only sell the same consumer grade gear you can get anywhere else. I'm also surprised this unit isn't regularly reviewed by the computer magazines since it is a higher quality piece of equipment with greater stability than anything else offered at a consumer-level price point.Neither Amazon nor Peplink indicates this comes with antennas; Amazon suggests the purchase of antennas along with the unit. So imagine my surprise when there were antennas in the box. However, there were no setup instructions in the box -- no paperwork of any kind. I had to use my phone to get to the Peplink website and didn't find any instructions there either. Finally, I went to their community forums and got the instructions. (Use an Ethernet connection initially; browse to 192.168.50.1; UserId: admin; PWD: admin.) 5Very unstable. Requires frequent reboots The stability of this router is terrible. It keeps dropping wifi connections every now and then. The only alternative at that point is to reboot the router by unplugging and plugging it back.Feature set such as vlan, multiple SSID looks interesting, but if it is not stable then it is worthless. Also if you buy from Amazon, there is no warranty. Either the buyer is saying wrong that is is a new router or the manufacturer is not willing to provide warranty for a new router. In either case customer is the one who suffers. I learned the lesson and will stay away from Enterprise class propaganda. 1Security is top notch The most secure router I have ever used. There are some fancy features I don't use in my environment, like PepVPN, but it supports IPSEC VPN too. The manufacturer has frequent firmware updates for security and feature enhancements. I'm pleasantly surprised to find a router that costs like a consumer devices but performs like a business device, with the level of support to boot! 5GREAT, CAPABLE, FAILOVER ROUTER !! I bought this to replace an ASUS RT-AC88U Router that has never worked properly and finally would loose its internet connection several times a day. This router seemed too good to be true. It promised to connect to ISPs via a Cellular Hotspot, USB, or Ethernet cable. Also it promised to "Failover" to the next connection when higher level ISP connections went down.It really seemed "too good to be true" for a $200 product. Well,-it works! Some details... I have a 20Mb/s broadband connection, a Hughesnet Satellite connection as backup #1 and a Cellular hotspot as backup #2. The Peplink however only has one WAN RJ45 connector, so at first I thought I was mistaken and only one WAN/ethernet connection was allowed; mercifully it turns out the USB connector works well with an ETHERNET TO USB cable, allowing me to use this port for the Hughesnet Satellite service, AND it fails over beautifully! To make it even more exciting, The Router connects to my hotspot WIRELESSLY, avoiding having to buy a USB modem and use up that precious port. AND it has both 2.4 GHz & 5 GHz wireless AP 802.11 wireless radios too! This baby does it all.The user interface is straightforward to use and there is little mystery there. Just get use to saving your settings as you go along. I have not owned a more capable router. This is the one to buy IMHO! 5Most secure router under $200 First realize that this is a business class router, not consumer grade. Peplink regularly has firmware updates. This router is very feature rich and does not support less secure WPS and you can restrict access to just WPA2. The three antennas that are not pictured do come with the router. I replaced my consumer grade router with the Surf SOHO because it is not vulnerable to the VPNFilter malware. The only criticism I have is that it comes with minimal information on initial set up. A more comprehensive quick start guide would be welcome. If you do have a question once you register your router you can open a support ticket and they are quick to respond. I would buy again you won't find a more secure router for $199. 5Good but not very fast for streaming. I bought this router (Pepwave Surf Soho mk3) for use in my RV because I could use my Verizon Jetpack as the Internet source USB into the back of the router. I needed a separate router (than the mifi) in order to hook up a Synology NAS that stores video, audio and file records and there was no ethernet port in the mifi. It worked well for small stuff but even with connecting the NAS into the router via ethernet, there was enough added latency that streaming a video to a wifi device downstream suffers from buffering, even with a good 4G connection.I still use this setup because when I reach my gigabyte limit each month, Verizon reduces throughput down to 600k on my "unlimited" plan, not only for stuff coming off the 4G link but also for client-to-client traffic on my LAN (NAS to tablets, printer, STB, laptop etc.). If I want faster speeds between these devices I have to move the mifi onto the WAN side of the firewall and use the SOHO as the router within the LAN. It's good for that kind of setup, but not very fast for streaming videos within my LAN. 4Great purchase! Received my MK3 router today. This is the first peplink product that I have dealt with. I run a computer repair shop and was anxious to try this out to see if I can recommend the MK3 to customers. I am pretty happy with the setup and options that this thing comes with. Best part about this router is that I can setup wifi networks with ease and then download the configuration file for backup. No more having to retype all of that stuff for customers when I have to reset to factory. The incontrol online portal is pretty awesome too. I don't think I'll ever recommend a store bought router over this handy piece of equipment. Haven't tested the failover WAN with my phone wifi yet but that's next on my list. A++ so far. 5The Surf Soho router is not as visually appealing or have the SRM interface but I find it to be much more useful. That coupled with a Netgear Smart Switch and ... PROs: * VLAN support * Inter-VLAN routing * Multiple Wi-Fi networks with VLAN support * Wi-Fi WAN * DHCP per VLANCONs: * Low throughput max 120MbpsI replaced my Synology RT2600ac with this router because the Synology does not support VLANs. The Surf Soho router is not as visually striking or have the SRM interface but I find it to be much more useful. The Surf Soho's features combined with a Netgear Smart Switch and I am able to segment my network for wireless and wired devices. I was able to have a working configuration and migrate my devices in a couple of hours using a guide on router security dot org. So far I am very impressed and satisfied with this device.NOTE: The antennas were included in the boxWARNING: You will not receive warranty or technical support for the device unless it was purchased from a peplink authorized reseller. 4
