Customer Reviews

Complete and Functional A few weeks back my iMac's internal HDD was causing the machine to boot super slowly. Having been an obvious factor in more than my fair share of HDD murders I set out instantly to use my external boot drive to backup all my data, order this kit (and another for HDD replacement) and get to repairing the unit. While the installation took my nervous nellie self longer than indicated to handle the install process, the kit helped me do everything it said it would. From removing the glass, and the display to disconnecting cabling and removing the logic board. What I really needed was a dual hard drive kit, which would have come with the extra temperature sensor, but all's well that ends well.Perfect for what it said it would do. 5Perfect Kit For The Job Perfect kit for the job. The suction cups are excellent. You only really need one, but it was good to apply even pressure across the screen. The tools were perfect, and had everything needed for taking the iMac apart. The little plastic tools were great for all the power connections that need to come out. They even put in a nice lint free cloth which was great for making sure there were no fingerprints left on the unit all. The only other item I used aside from this kit was a pair of exam gloves just to keep the prints to a minimum. Excellent kit for the money. 5Makes you iMac run like a new iMac. The biggest single improvement you can do to a traditional (read-older) Mac or Windows computer is upgrade to an SSD. The OWC Internal SSD kit will let you add an SSD to the standard HD and still retain the DVD drive. Boot from the SSD and it's like a new computer. The install is not for the faint of heart. Do-able with the right tools and workspace, but my local Apple reseller did the install for a reasonable fee. 5Needs a right-angle on the logic board connector. The logic board side of the connector should be a right angle connector, but it is straight which causes the middle of the board to stick out farther than it should. This is causing my screen to not sit flush when fully assembled in the upper right corner. The cable is more stiff than the stock cables, so bending it does not work. The cable *does* work, but it could be improved with a right-angle logic board connector. This was installed in a 2011 iMac 27". 2Made my 27" iMac run like new and still keep my CD-ROM drive and main HDD I had an internal HDD enclosure that replaced the CD-ROM drive for a second HDD, but after getting this adapter and following the install instructions to the t, the iMac now retains both the main HDD and CD-ROM drive, and additionally have a SSD that gives a new life to my aging iMac!Just make certain to go thru the instructional video before actually doing the install, since it requires some careful planning and handling near the fragile electronic components, compared to just replacing CD-ROM drive with an HDD enclosure. Otherwise in the worst case you may damage the motherboard if not careful. Best bet is to hire a neighbor technician. But it was well worth it! 5Great quality product, packaging and instructions. Cable worked perfectly. Cable was as expected. It's working fine so far and seems to be of good quality. My only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the price. $18 for a short cable is a little steep. Not a huge complaint, but just a little feedback. I'd buy it again. Overall I'm very happy and I would recommend this product and this seller. Thanks for great product. 4Worked perfectly I used this kit to mount a Samsung 850 Pro into my 2011 iMac. I followed along with the video and the whole thing took about 1 1/4 hours to complete. That time includes vacuuming the dust and I went very slowly. The kit includes a paper for sorting the various sizes of screws, which was very helpful.I'd suggest taking some close-up photos of the motherboard/connectors so you know how to put things back together. The three screws in the middle of the motherboard had two different sized heads. I don't think it matters which goes where, but I put the smaller screw in the center.Formatting the drive post-install was easy, as was re-installing a fresh copy of the OS. 5as described. SSD installation made easy! my iMac 27" mid-2011 hard drive decided to crap out on my (see review for OWC in-line digital sensor for iMac 2011 that i wrote also). I decided to replace the original 1TB internal HD with a 120GB SSD and 3TB bulk HD. So after some searching online i found this cable was probably what i needed. If you buy this , use the ifixit and OWC tutorials. Take your time and it should work. My hard drive installations took me about 1hr 30 minutes from start to finish, and i was able to get my computer back up and running after a crashed hard drive.my only complaints is that i didn't receive any adhesive, despite the amazon description. This wasn't an issue because i had some heavy duty double sided tape at home, but just letting you know. 5Worked well with 2011 27" iMac + Samsung 840 SSD I am using this "Kit" to add 500 GB Samsung EVO 840 SSD in 2011 27" iMac. First of all, even though the product title calls it "Mounting Kit", it only has a cable and few double sided adhesive tape pieces that consist of mount kit.I was able to successfully use the cable to add an SSD behind my optical drive in the iMac and the kit contains all necessary tools to get the job done. However, I highly recommend watching a video on OWC's website that instructs how to do the job and it has very nice step-by-step instructions that were life-saver.Hope this helps. 5Deceptive advertising and shoddy product Deceptive advertising. Only provided me with a T10, T8, Phillips screwdriver, and a single pry tool from toolkit. What was missing? The entire 14 piece toolkit with case. That means no case, no tweezers, and several other missing screwdrivers which I found out the hard way with my iMac torn apart except for the very last screw which requires a T6.Also, only one suction cup worked. I was a able to pull the glass anyway but it is quite annoying to say the least. 1
