Customer Reviews

Got this lens? Get this shade! I bought the bargain priced 40-150mm Olympus lens as part of my occasional use travel photo kit. (Travel light but right.) Because it's $100, I didn't expect much. Happily, it proved to be sharp so I decided that getting a filter to protect the front element and this lens shade to block flare. The price elsewhere was a lot more, the Amazon price was remarkably low so I ordered it here and it's a perfect fit and an OEM product.Got this lens? Get this shade! 5Works great. Exactly as described. Fits perfect. Just wish it would have come with the lens in the first place. 5Works well, but the usual overpriced OEM lens hood makes it lose a star for value It's overpriced for a piece of plastic (like all OEM hoods), but it fits well and does it's job. I purchased the OEM hood after hearing many complaints that third party hoods didn't fit well when reversed or were difficult to install or remove. I've had ill-fitting hoods in the past and they're a pain, so it's worth it to pay a few extra bucks for a well made product that works well. 4Pricey But It Fits and Works Well After recently buying my wife an Olympus PEN E-PL8 camera with 14-40 zoom lens she wanted something more robust to photograph birds. I then bought her an Olympus 40-150mm f4.0-5.6 lens, which is a remarkable value, but shooting toward the sun with it can cause internal reflections, producing poor results. Since a hood is not included with the purchase of that telephoto lens, I debated buying a cheaper third-party hood but finally decided that the savings weren't great enough to avoid the Olympus brand. The hood is well made, fits the lens perfectly and solves the light reflection problems but the price seems a bit high. 5This lens hood must be a Collectors Item! This item came in black, as ordered and the printing on the outside was crisp with no smudges whatsoever. It does fit on the lens for which it is designed, and I have been unable to detect any pinholes so it does appear to be 100% functional for its stated purpose. At its purchase price of over $18, I have to think that this item may be a Collectors Item, as a normal lens hood (it seems to me) would have been included with the lens itself or sold for a reasonable price--maybe $10 or so. This being the case I am going to try and acquire more of these lens hoods, looking forward to the day when my Collection's value will enable me to buy that island in the Caribbean I have been thinking about. 5Hood is okay but what's wrong with Olympus? I LOVE my Olympus OM-D E-M1. I love the Olympus 45mm f1.8 lens. I'm looking forward to getting more Olympus lenses in the future. The 40-150 lens is not a pro lens and the best I can say is that I "like" it. But I emphatically do NOT like having to buy a lens hood for it separately. What is wrong with Olympus? Charge a dollar more for the lens and include a lens. Panasonic, Sigma, heck even ROKINON manage to include hoods (and often carrying bags) with their lenses. Why on earth doesn't Olympus?Rated the hood 5 stars because, well, it does its job satisfactorily. My complaint isn't with the hood. It's with the fact that I had to waste time buying this separately. 5Fit perfectly I'm dusting off some of my MFT lenses. I was getting ready to sell them all then I thought to myself "why not just get a lovely new G9 instead of getting ripped of by letting go of some nice glass." So I did. I upgraded my camera body and dusted off some old and neglected lenses. Wow this Olympus 40-150 is an absolute beauty. I noticed that there was some significant flair though, that's where this lens hood fits in. I got next day deleliver. It's very affordable considering it's and OEM product. It snaps right into place and the length is substantial enough to prevent lens flair. This product is a 10/10. If anything ever happened to it I'd quickly buy again. I highly recommend. 5Works as it should but should have been included with the lens. Does what is should, but took off two stars for plastic construction and fact that I had to buy it separately in addition to buying the lens.Pros: Fits well on the lens with a solid twist. Easily reverses on camera to store out of the way. Definitely cuts down on extraneous light/flare issues.Cons: Plastic construction. Should have come with the lens. 3Its a piece of plastic, and it helps in certain shots. I use this all day long on shots in my back yard of my pets, I have not taken it on a trip yet, and I am notoriously gentle on my electronics and hardware so I don't foresee any durability issues for this hood in my future. 4Good fit, performs as expected. Fits tight. Decent plastic. Ive tried a few 3rd party hoods in the past and its always hit or miss on the fitting. The recent price drop for this hood is nice because previously when it was going for $25 dollars you think they would use black felt inside the hood instead of the plastic ridges they decided to use, but it works decent enough.I do agree lens companies should start just including these items with the original lens as it wouldn't cost much of anything. These plastic hoods are not expensive to make. Just seems greedy to me, though I understand many photographers do not use lens shades (even though they should) 4
