I bought two and love 'em ! I bought two and love 'em. I have two tips:1) To get good tilting range, a must have is the the Paul C Buff Baby Boomer Offset Arm2) My trial and error purchases proved you really must spend over $20 to get good hot shoe flash light stand umbrella holder.. I recommend either one of these:Full aluminum OM-18 Pro Flash Hot Shoe Umbrella Holder adapter mount with Swivel/Tilt Bracket 3 section U shape for Nikon and Canon Speedlight 430EX 580EX SB600 SB800 SB900 Yongnuo YN560 YN568EX YN565EXPhottix Varos Pro S Multi-Function Flash Shoe Umbrella Holder (PH87200)I found for most INDOOR portraits, a single good (Guide Number > 30 meters) "speedlight" style hot shoe flash is enough to light up subject who is roughly 5 ft away. That's with the white diffuser panel attached to front of softbox. I'm using Yongnuo YN568 series flash units which claim performance of GN = 58 meters @ ISO100 and 105mm.Now for outside use in bright sunlight conditions, you'll probably need 2 or 3 hot shoe flashes per softbox, which requires getting this:ePhoto H6704 Triple Hotshoe Mount Flash Bracket 3-Way with Umbrella holder for Nikon Canon Pentax SigmaFor low-cost flash stands, I've been really happy with the PBL Backdrop Support Stands System PBL BACKDROP BACKGROUND SUPPORT STAND SYSTEM PHOTOGRAPHY STUDIO VIDEO 10'X12' HEAVY DUTY BACKGROUND STANDS , SPRING LOADED NEWLY PATENTED 12' CROSS BAR by PBLI ended buying two sets (= four stands) to use two of the PBL stands to hold my Yongnuo speedlights, and two PBL stands for my backdrop.NOTE: I used above setup with Nikon SLR to shoot 2-point lighting headshots also using a 3rd speed light on the backdrop. Meaning the key light, and fill light were Yongnuo YN568 inside the Neewer 47" plus I used a third YN568 to light my backdrop. I could have used (next time!) a 4th YN568 for a hair light from the back but I didn't have one handy.Anyway, I followed headshot lighting setup methods, and lighting ratios. Then I shot headshots for me and family members for use on linked in. The results were fantastic!, point being that you can get really good results even being amateur photographer using obviously low-priced equipment. And I saved $200 or more on the cost of getting each of those headshots done by a pro. Next time I'll buy the 4th Speedlight and use that as snoot hair light from behind.Oh, and how do I judge my headshots as "fantastic" ? Hey, I posted my headshot that I self-shot to my Linked-in profile prior to interviewing with very big name multinational (known to be very picky on hiring) and I got hired! I'm not saying that headshot was the only reason I got hired but it sure helped. 5Excellent Softbox for Great Price Excellent umbrella softbox. Considering this is my first experience with a softbox like this it was very easy to setup and use.Using this primarily for portraits but with great results with my Sony A6500 with Nissin Air commander with Di700A. It takes a little practice on how far to set it up from the subject and how deep to set the flash in the umbrella but if you have a patient subject you will no doubt get great pictures.The quality seems to be good but I will have to see if it holds up over time and will update my review should it not. I have purchased other Neewer products in the past and have been impressed with the quality and functionality for the price. For now I'm satisfied and for the price I can happily recommend this. 5Really recommend this softbox This very well constructed,. The build is really solid. the rods seem to be reinforced. Really recommend this softbox. Am including some images of my setup, I had made a custom bracket to use with a regular umbrella because I want my speedlight to be in the center, light is more even. and result of my first shoot. 5Very happy the Octagon Softbox I am a professional photographer and wanted to try out a cheap version of a octagon softbox. This was excellent. I pair it with Alien Bees 800 light and I love what I get. Add a reflector under the model and portraits will pop. The snap for closing down the umbrella is a little unsafe for fingers but use a towel to avoid getting pinched. This is a cheap modifier for making great portraits. 5Excellent budget softbox This is my first softbox, so I do not have much to compare this to. I do have a set of umbrellas that I use, but this lets me have a bit more control over where the light is being thrown. The diffuser adds a wonderful soft light that does some incredible things with skin tones.Set up is pretty straight forward and it opens up just like an umbrella. There is a zippered opening to get your stand through the bottom and then mount the flash on the inside.Pros:- Easy set up and take down, although there it is a bit of trick to fold the diffuser panel correctly to get it back into the carry bag with the softbox. I m sure once you do it a few times, it will not be an issue.- Size this thing is really large (over 4 feet diameter!) once you get it set up and you can direct a nice wall of light with this thing.- Diffuser makes a wonderful soft light.- Seems like it is well constructed for the price. I am not sure if it would survive a tumble in the wind, but I plan on mostly using this indoors.- Provides good lighting with both a speedlight and plug-in strobe.Cons:- The flash unit goes inside the umbrella. If you have a manual flash, adjustments are best dialed in before you Velcro on the diffuser panel. Having it on the inside really can t be avoided with this style of softbox, but it s something to be aware of before buying.- There is no articulating arm on the mount, so you will not be able to angle this unit. Your only option is straight up and down. Because it is so large, it hasn t been a problem for me. One other reviewer suggested mounting it on a boom stand, which would be a pretty easy solution to adjust the angle.Overall, I am very happy with this softbox and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for an affordable, yet quality entry to expand their flash photography gear. I have had a good experience with the Neewer brand so far. I have this softbox paired with the Neewer 250W Studio Flash and I have been very happy with the results. 4Great, Useful and a Must for pro-looking results This Softbox has been everything I had hoped it would be and the price is very good. Mastering lighting is incredibly important if you want your photos to have a pro look. I bought both this size and a 47" one and if you decide to buy only one I think the huge 47" one is better and I'm using the 47" one more. If you want to angle the softbox more I would suggest NOT putting the light stand through the zippered hole. You can still attach the diffuser but will just not be able to attach it all the way around. I love the lighting I get using this because it totally transforms the horror that is any photo taken with direct flash (the most unnatural and unflattering lighting there is)and gives detail without harsh shadows.I have 2 Nikon SB600 flashes that work wirelessly with my Nikon D750 being triggered by the on camera flash.(set on camera flash in command mode to - or lowest power and I also cover flash with a piece of paper towel. I have no problem triggering my flashes even with the Softbox behind me) My only real negative and the reason I give this only 4 stars, has to do with quality. I know softboxes can be hundred of dollars. I use this just around my house and am not a pro.The fabric of the umbrella seems very thin. It works great, but there is no sense that it is something that would hold up under lots of use and traveling. I haven't actually handled more expensive softboxes but if you are looking for a set that will hold up to being folded and stored and taken to locations, I'd look beyond these. Other then that , these are pretty amazing for the cheap price. 4BEST BUDGET SOFTBOX - WATCH VIDEO FOR FULL REVIEW hey everyone, I am taking a look at this Neewer 32" softbox. It is primarily used for photography purposes but currently I am using it with my LED and you can see how it diffuses light throughout my face. There are three things that comes with this, and one is the umbrella itself, the diffusion panel on the top and there is a carrying bag which is very useful since the whole package is very lightweight and it is helpful if you want to use it on different locations.Now there are few things you need to start working with this kit. First is of-course a light stand, preferably with a boom stand; we ll talk about that in a moment. And the second thing is a flash bracket, which will hold your umbrella and your flash to the light stand. Also, you need a wireless flash trigger on your camera, so you can use this on the distance. You can trigger it using the camera flash inside the studio since your flash will bounce around the walls but you will need them outdoors or for the accurate results.Also the construction of the umbrella itself is pretty strong at this price point, the overall installation time could be less than a minute and you can carry this around open unless its windy. One of the reason, I said it needs a boom pole is because you have to pass your light stand to pass through this zipper and you cannot tilt it once it is set. Connecting it to pole will allow you to tilt it towards your subject.Let s take a couple of sample images and see how much it diffuses the light. First I have this square object and as you can see this is how it looks without flash, this is how it looks with silver lining and this is once you put the white cover on.So first, I am going to use it with flash directly toward the subject and you can see all the shadows on one side. This is how it looks once I turn my flash around and light will bounce just from the silver lining. And finally this is the final diffusion you get once you put the white diffusion paper on.Hope this help you, this is one of the best way to enter and try flash photography because people mis concept flash just because they don t use proper diffusion and it's a very small light source and looks harsh on the subject.Definitely give it a try, if you have any question let me know in the comment section below and as always thanks for watching. 5This thing is awesome!! Such a great soft light from this ... This thing is awesome!! Such a great soft light from this box and killer price. Very easy to set up, and looks really professional on shoots. I wouldn't have been able to snap such a gorgeous indoor newborn session without it!! 5Good softbox, but be aware of limitations This is a nice, inexpensive octobox. It is easy to set up and provides a nice source, but there are a few things you should consider before purchasing:1. If you look at the photo on the product page, it shows one speedlight. While it will work with one, I bought a bracket that allows me to use two speedlights. This provides a much better distribution in the softbox and you get a more even light.2. You stick the light stand up through a slit in the bottom of the softbox. After that, you cannot tilt the box on the stand. If you just use it on a light stand, this really limits your placement as a key light. You either need to mount it on a boom or use a VAL (voice activated light stand). 4Great soft light from a speedlite. Huge bang for your buck! I'm very happy with this. For as cheap as it was, it does exactly what I was looking for. I also got a bracket for it to attach to my tripod, and use my 430exII in it in slave mode, triggered by the pop up flash on my 70D. Even with the white panel in place, the 430exII is able to detect the pulse flash and fires just like it should, every time. I use it exclusively with the white panel, which velcros in place very easily, because the soft box produces a really nice, soft, big light effect from a speedlite. Without the panel, the silver reflective surface inside was just too harsh and casts shadows that I am not happy with. It comes with a carry/storage pouch that holds the umbrella and white panel. 5
