Customer Reviews

Poor quality! This latch self locks - when the screen door closes the lock switch is loose causing the latch to lock when it shouldn't. I didn't install it until the return window was closed. I suggest you oPt for a different product! 1I'd give it a zero if I could. The previous homeowner didn't screw down the handle - it broke in my hand - so I bought this identical-style replacement. The open/lock lever on this product kept sliding and locking by itself. The one I was replacing had a positive detent for the lever - it stayed unlocked unless manually locked. I had to marry the old mechanism with the other parts from this kit I bought.Highly NOT recommended. 1Solid I had to buy a new handle for my storm door since the old one was flimsy and snapped. I purchased this one because it screwed in at the bottom of the handle where my old one did not (hence it breaking). Was very pleased with the build quality, ease of installation, and the solid feel when the door was closed. My old handle and latch had way too much play, this one was tight. Would buy again if needed. 5A Great Latch at a decent price I purchased this product as a replacement part for my broken latch. I received the product in perfect condition. I was very pleased at the quality of the latch. Sturdily built and well crafted. I will admit however I did make one mistake ( my bad) I didn't measure the thickness of the aluminum door. The door was 1.5"" instead of 1.750". It was very easy to modify. I think they had me in mind when they built this latch. lol It was easy to install and the directions on the package were very clear and understandable. As so many times before, I am overly pleased with the product and service from " Amazon". Thanks Amazon 4Installed It In 20-25 Minutes And It Works Fine Bought this one to replace my non locking handle that just broke after 20 years. Read the instructions 3 times before starting the installation to make sure I had it planned out in my mind and I was done in 20-25 minutes tops after all fine tuning and adjustments. I hope that this one lasts another 20 years too. It's much better than having no protection at all, plus I installed an eye lock & hook on the inside for added protection while inside the house. I just needed a philips screwdriver, a pair of cutting pliers and a ruler / tape measure. It bolted to my existing holes so I got lucky too.You have to break it apart and make alot of noise to get in now. 5V1317 Storm Door Latch Got it to work, but it wasn't easy. My door was thicker than the screws included allowed. It was after store hours, so I dug out some longer screws which were too long and cut them off. Then I filed them down and ran them through a die to renew the threads. The spring that pushes the open button out managed to escape during the install to points unknown, so I had to dig through my used spring collection and was lucky enough to find a match. Lastly, the old latch was offset about 1/4 inch further than the included spacers could compensate for, so I made a spacer out of wood. All together, it was well over an hour to get the latch operational. It works great and a $200 door that was in great shape is still in service because of this latch. 3Poor quality and locks by itself when the door closes. Right from the beginning it was very hard to get the key to work, it takes a lot of jiggling to lock or unlock it from the outside. A few times when I was frustrated I yanked the entire pushbutton out of the handle LOL, but it snapped back in pretty easily, so it's not very secure at all, but it's only on an enclosed patio. After having it for a while, it started locking by itself, and has happened 3 times in the past 2 days so I'm shopping for a new one. The locking switch on the inside is pushed downward in order to lock the handle, and the parts fit together so loosely that when the door slams, gravity pulls down the locking switch and leaves you in a bad situation. Some door handles have an anti-locking feature which is nice, where this one has an auto-lock!!! Very funny National Hardware ;) 1Revised Opinion I think I reviewed this earlier and was disappointed because I thought it did not fit my door. But I decided to try it on another storm door and it worked out fine. Now that I know that the problem was not the latch but installer error, I am happy with the latch and will order another one for the remaining door. This is sturdy and well made, I believe it will last for many years. Also the price is better than at the retail store. 5almost needs a pro but it's sturdy and strong hell to install. almost needs a pro but it's sturdy and strong. 4only so so quality I am not sure what is up with these replacement locking handles. This is the fourth one I have been through in last four month, fourth brand. None of them are very well made. The others stopped working in a matter of a couple weeks. With the name Stanley I hoped this one would be better, and it is, but not by much. The lock slips around so it's often hard to get the key in. Sometimes, you have to lock, unlock and lock again just to toggle the lock in the right position for it to work.My contractor is disgusted with all these replacements, and said if this one fails, I will have to replace the whole door. Very expensive, just because you cannot get a well-made replacement for the handle. 3
