    in my opinion the best condenser mic for vocals under $100 I did a lot of research before purchasing , on you tube and internet, for the price this is , in my opinion the best condenser mic for vocals under $100, I've worked with some high end mics before and this one outshines them, have not used it on instruments, but for vocals it catches the nuances of you voice and has a great well balanced sound 5Wow... Pro mic? No. Close? Yea, pretty close. Is this a Neuman U87? No. It is patterned after one (including the electronics and components) though. It's a large capsule mic and it's very sensitive, so you'll need a quiet room to use it.It's one of those mics you can easily mod to get a wide range of sound as well and, out of the box, it's pretty darned sweet. We use them for a podcasting studio and not only do they work exceptionally well with a Rodecaster pro setup, but they also look great.Quality recording AND looks. Good job MXL. 5Worth much much more So I owned quite a few entry and mid level condensers. This competes with many mics many times it's price, especially for what it goes for now. I compared it directly against a $300 mic I own and it almost out performs it. I highly recommend this mic. It captures vocals very well and has almost a bright sound to it.Make sure you by the MXL57 shock mount which works with this as well! 5Fantastic mic for V.O. work! I use this microphone for professional voice over narration, and it performs just as well as more expensive mics. I have had no issues with it, whether recording character voices or audio book narration. While this isn't likely to be the go-to mic for a studio, it wouldn't be out of place there either, and will serve wonderfully for a home studio environment. It is a sensitive cardioid patterned microphone, so if there are large sources of background noise (furnace, fans, T.V., etc...) in a nearby room, it WILL be picked up in your recording.The V67G has a clear, rich tone, and requires little to no EQ for my voice. When getting up close, the proximity effect adds a great depth to the voice without distorting the tone, and without needing too large of a reduction on the gain. Overall, this microphone is well worth the money and then some!The MXL V67G is a condenser microphone, and requires an XLR cable hookup and a phantom power supply. Getting a good interface is just as important as having a good microphone, so be sure to research the interface that will work best for you. I would recommend a Focusrite Scarlet series interface to start with, but do your own research to find what will work best for your use. 5Get some good sounds out of it -- if it's working. I purchased the MXL V67G after my other beloved condenser mic died on me.Firstly, the mic I had before the MXL was in the $200-300 range, which is obviously a different ball game. I compared some new vocal clips with some old, and I found that the MXL held it's own -- you can get some very clear, crisp sounds out of it with the right plugins. The reason, then, I'm giving the MXL 3 stars is because often times, the mic flat out won't pick up vocals. I still haven't found out why it does this, but the problem has been posted across forums.This issue is obviously a massive one, and I plan on ordering a new mic in the next week or so. I will reiterate though, it's certainly possible that I'm doing something wrong, or that the mic is damaged in some way. I left the review so others are prepared for this possibility -- the MXL is a fantastic price, but if you throw in an extra $30-40 I think you could end up with are far better microphone, and ultimately, long-term investment. 3I don't know what I'm doing, but I own a mic that looks like I do I'm definitely new to the whole home studio thing, but I needed a mic for the analog 4-track I scored on eBay. Not wanting to buy something that was absolute garbage, I decided to stretch my budget to accommodate this recommended condenser microphone. Not only does it look retro and cool, but it sounds unbelievable! And by unbelievable, I mean I am in disbelief I got it to work! I was testing it through a computer with a preamp and couldn't get any damn noise. However, after messing with the mic settings on the computer (in a final attempt before going crazy), I heard the most crystal clear, excellent rendition of my voice that I have ever heard recorded. I have no experience with high end mics, but I will safely say that I am not disappointed. It's definitely worth the 90 bucks I spent on it. I used a BEHRINGER TUBE ULTRAGAIN MIC200 for both the phantom power and generalized control of it, which I also recommend as well. 5Great microphone, very sensitive to humidity I bought 2 of these mikes and the sound is perfect for my voice. My other LDC's are Rode NT2 and Studio Projects C1 and B1, and I would say my other mikes capture my acoustic guitar playing better, but for my voice the V67 is a must-have. Warmer, darker and more mellow than all my other mikes. The one problem I have with this microphone is that it's extremely sensitive to humidity and will perform terribly if not kept aggressively dehumidified: random volume changes or altogether drop-out of sound, and no it's not my cables, all my other mikes perform fine in the same conditions with the same cables. So I would say keep your studio dehumidified, or store your your mikes in a drying cabinet, or these mikes will fail on a rainy day. A shame too, because I love the way these things sound, especially for the price. 4Unbelievable for the money. It s not a Neumann, but very comparable with my AKG microphone I used to use and definitely better than my Shure 58 Beta for recording vocals. I m not crazy about it for recording instruments, but for vocals and Facebook live recordings it s unbeatable for the money. Technology has come a long way in the past few years. I just used it the other day in my friend's recording studio to lay down a lead vocal track and we were both surprised at how good it sounds. This mic will rival any microphone in the $500 to $1000 range and will cost you way less money. (See video above). 5Worth Much More - See Photo Great Mic, I'm running it through my DR-40 portable recorder. I put the volume up to about 15 or 20, in setting it to that level, I can get really close on this mic to get that awesome proximity effect without over modulating or peaking.Now, you don't really have to do too much EQ except for a slight reduction on the top end. The truth is this, it's totally optional to even do that. I was recording a commercial to be added to a video and you would think this was at least a $1000 microphone.I've heard the Neumann microphones, well, this one compares, and it doesn't even have a tube.The sound is pretty flat, which means you don't really need to adjust the EQ, which is perfect for live recordings, but depending on the pop screen you use, you might lose some proximity effect, but I record pretty close on it.The pop screen in the picture I posted the following:WindTech PopGard Microphone WindscreenThe mic costs about $90 with another $32 for the pop screen.The recorder I use is about $170, that is here:TASCAM DR-40 4-Track Portable Digital RecorderPick it up, you won't regret it. 5Well worth the price! This is a much better mic than it should be at the price, especially since I got mine for $89. Although it is part of the MXL V 67 line, it bears no similarity to any of the other V67 large diaphragm mics. This mic uses dual small diaphragm capsules that are, reportedly, the same as the ones in the MXL 603s and 604. The internal preamps are also different from the large LDC V 67 mics. I could tell this right away because this mic is quite a bit quieter than my V67 G. This mic should really be thought of as basically a pair of SDC's like the 603s or 604. It does have a rather "warm" presentation, overall,l without a strongly overemphasized top end. There's definitely a rise up there but it sounds smooth and pleasing to me. I have to say, I far prefer this mic to my Shure VP 88 stereo mic which is about 8 times the price. That mic is audibly noisy and deficient on the low end. The V67Q beats the heck out of it, to tell the truth. As far as I know, it has been discontinued as of this review. My advice" if you are looking for a very good and useful stereo mic, pick one up while they last at the blow out prices they are going for! 4
