Customer Reviews

Multi purpose and stylish Love the fact that it is not just a toilet paper holder. I would recommend if you are in the market for a toilet paper holder, you buy this. If ever someone was to need a little grip to help themselves off the toilet it is there. It doesn't give that handicap look.It comes with two of those special mounts so there is not ripping into the sheetrock or special blocking needed. [...] there is a easy youtube install video. I would say it took about 20min to install. 5Looks good Installed this, along with Moen Home Care 16 inch Angled Grab bar, both in brushed nickel, and they look good! The angled grab bar is screwed into two studs, and is rock-solid, while the toilet paper holder / grab bar is attached to one stud on the farther end, and the included wall anchor on the end closer to the toilet, Even with everything cinched tight, it flexes just a bit, likely reflecting lighter weight construction of the toilet bar. But it's quite useable and the colors and styles match. I ordered two Securemount anchors, just in case, but did not need them. 4Problem solved ! We purchased this grab bar-toilet paper holder in combination with Moen's 30-inch Flip-Up Grab Bar (R8960FD) for my 96 year old mother who had tried everything else in her struggles to be able to use the toilet safely and without foreboding. Nothing else worked...bedside toilet, taller toilet, booster seat for increased height on the toilet, arm rests that attach to the toilet, etc. Any device that had to be secured to the toilet eventually rocked or wobbled or just seemed iffy. When we installed this grab bar disguised as a toilet paper holder on a wall to the side of the toilet and the Flip-Up grab bar to the wall behind the toilet on the other side, the problem was solved. Both supports were firmly attached to the walls, no anxiety about whether the connection would come loose. My carpenter stood on the Flip-Up grab bar to test it's strength! When it's up, the bathroom looks pretty much like any other. 5Perfect for retrofit projects This combines two functions and looks interesting. If this is a retrofit project - Moen has solved the problem of no backer board installed in the wall. Moen includes a Secure Mount system with it so you don't need a stud or backer board for it to carry the weight for grab bar use. Needs an inch plus hole and the mount molly goes into/installs through that. The grab bar cover conceals the holes. The carpenters forgot to install the wood backer and new porcelain tile had already been installed - ouch! So discovering the Secure Mount molly system, in the package, was a lifesaver - one side is over a stud and the other side uses the mount. Designed and packaged with the customer in mind - am so impressed. 5Attractive with minor quibbles. The Moen LR2352DBN Grab Bar Toilet Paper Holder is sturdy and made from attractive "grippy" brushed nickel. I mounted mine on a wood sink cabinet by the toilet, so I was able to use a cheap 1-1/4" hole saw and an electric drill. If you are mounting to tile, you need an expensive diamond grit hole saw and some patience--or you can buy an inexpensive 1/8" glass cutting drill bit and drill a bunch of little holes in a circle and tap it out. I did this with another Moen support bar and it worked fine. The Moen kit comes with a clever plastic insert mounting system that allows mounting in blind spaces. The system is really neat--I had to play with it awhile just so I could marvel at its coolness. The insert is also quite large--make sure that you have space to mount this critter before you cut the hole! I had to cut it down a bit to fit another Moen support bar in the tub.I was slightly less impressed with the holder itself. It looks good, but I would 1. have made the toilet roll flange just a bit larger so the toilet roll is less prone to slipping off and 2. the toilet roll holder bar is not precisely parallel to the grab bar. Mine is bent several degrees down. No problems with function, it's just I'm a bit anal (snort!) about good engineering and manufacturing.Overall an attractive and useful dual-function unit. Four stars. 4A slightly more stylish alternative to a horizontal 18" grab bar. Overall a nice piece. It's a little larger than I thought it might be, but certainly less ADA looking than mounting a horizontal 18" bar by the toilet. This uses the Moen connector system to mount through the drywall...I guess it's ok but I didn't use it - I did a remodel and knew where it was going so I put blocking in the wall to screw into directly.PROs- provides a little more stylish look than a normal horizontal grab bar- consolidates the TP holder & grab barCONs- a little pricey for what it is - an 18" stainless bar is only about $20...this is around $40- does NOT include stainless steel screws for mounting directly into studs or wall blocking. I had to buy 6 which added about $5 and an extra trip to the hardware store. Annoying with a $40 bar.- the overall size is a little larger than I realized - it's about 13" by 8". By comparison, a Moen TP holder from the Preston line is about 6" x 4".UNDECIDED- Moen includes their own mounting system - designed to go through the drywall I guess...not sure I'd trust that. I mounted to blocking inside the wall instead.- Instead of being welded with the escutcheons loosly attached, this uses set screws and a flange on the bars that mount into the screw mount pieces. It is possible this bar *might* loosen over time...you could avoid that by using thread locker on the set screws, but then you risk not being able to disassemble it later if you ever want to. It's probably fine, as long as you know that if it starts to get loose at all, it is time to pull back the escutcheons and tighten those set screws with an allen wrench. (provided)SUMMARY 4Attractive and extremely secure. A bit larger in person than it looks in pictures, but extremely secure and very attractive.I don't have any of the issues that others have mentioned regarding the tissue roll falling off the holder. Thinking about which side of the toilet it'll be on, and attention to placement and is the key.Basically, you want to be tearing the tissue in the direction of the curved part of the bar.If you mount it on the right hand wall, then place it near enough to the toilet so the natural and comfortable tendency will be to tear the tissue away from you. This way, you will be tearing the tissue toward the curved/closed end of the bar, and not pulling toward the open end.If you mount it on your left side, then mount it a little further from the toilet so the natural tearing motion will be pulling toward the curve. The secure mount hardware is fantastic! Extremely easy and secure. Also purchased the Moen Home Care Grab Bar (LR8724D1GBN) to use as a towel bar in this same bathroom. Perfect match, although the grab bar does not come with the secure mount brackets. They fit and work with the bar however, you will need to purchase those separately. 5Ease of installation depends on what you're installing it on. Handy - used often - 2 yrs. old with no sign of wear. Sturdy. We purchased 2 grab bars - this bronze one and a brushed nickle bar - one for each bathroom. One of them, I installed myself. We had converted an outdoor porch into a bathroom for my son (who has special needs - balance and mobility being one of his needs). I just screwed it into the wood wall. It's stable, sturdy, and it's as strong as that wall - it will hold just about any weight. The other was to be installed in another bathroom & was a bit more complicated. I could not for the life of me, figure out the the plastic locking device that goes through the wall. So, I watched the video - not helpful. I now understood how, but somehow couldn't figure out why this would work. I was afraid it wouldn't hold weight. So, I had my husband watch the video. He understood & was convinced it would work & be sturdy. So, we began. This bar was to be installed on the side of a cupboard by our toilet. I took the shelves out of the cupboard & had my husband 'niche' them to fit around the 2 2x4s that I installed vertically inside the cupboard. My husband then followed the instructions in the video & installed the grab bar onto the side of the newly reinforced cupboard. This bar is sturdy & holds my husband's weight (230 to 250lbs - depending on how motivated he's been). He has a 'trick' knee on one knee & his other is just plain messed up & surgery helped, but wasn't a cure. It's sturdy - even when he has to put all of his weight on it.I think they are more attractive than other bars I've seen, & the ability to put toilet paper on them makes them even more useful. As far as ease of installation, I would say that that depends on what you plan on installing it on. We installed both of ours at an angle, for ease of use - due to where they ended up located compared to the stool. 4Handy but still a little ADA looking. I had these installed to help my husband who is disabled. They are very sturdy and do hold quite a bit of weight as described. They are pretty large though, so still a little institutional looking but not as bad as just a plain grab bar. Delta makes one that looks less ADA but also has a much smaller bar to grab so if you need to get a real firm grip, this is the one to get.I would also do as others have suggested and install it so it slants ever so slightly upward so as to better keep the toilet paper on it. I have had the toilet paper slide off of mine a couple of times when it was bumped. It's only happened a couple of times so it's not a real big deal but is easily avoided if you install it on a very slight slant. When we had ours installed, I had to remove a recessed toilet paper holder in one bathroom. Then we had the problem of what to do with the hole in the wall. A builder friend suggested installing an oak panel on the wall and then just drilling and screwing directly into that. The oak backing is screwed into studs and the toilet paper holder is screwed directly into the oak. It's very sturdy that way. We made the oak backing long enough to go over two studs to make sure this is sturdy. This meant we didn't have to drill another large hole in the drywall to anchor the toilet paper holder. In another bathroom, for some reason there was backing in the entire wall next to the toilet so we didn't have to worry about where to place the screws. They all went directly into solid wood so we didn't have to worry about making a large hole in the wall.If you're remodeling and have a choice, ask to have backing placed in the wall between the studs so you can screw items like this directly into solid wood, so you don't have to make the large holes for the anchors. The only other drawback was that this did not come with screws for screwing into studs or hard wood, only the anchors. I had to purchase long screws to make sure this was securely fastened. 4Does The Job I like this grab bar tp holder very much because it's so practical. We were originally going to install it on the left side of the toilet with the tp holder facing forward. Then I changed my mind, and decided to have it installed on the right side of the toilet with the tp holder facing to the rear of the toilet. Didn't make a difference. Would've worked either way. As other reviewers have noted, when the grab bar is installed level, the tp holder will be slanting slightly downhill. I thought that might be a problem, but now with use, I find it isn't. Toilet paper pulls evenly off the roll without pulling the roll off the holder. Works nicely. Although it's great in that it does double duty as a grab bar to help you get up from the seated position, it does have a kind of an ADA look to it. So we installed it on the privacy wall between our toilet and shower, so you really don't see it when you walk into the bathroom. If we had installed it on the other side, it would have been visible immediately upon stepping into the bathroom, and made it look sort of institutional. Now, hidden behind the privacy wall, I still have the double duty convenience, without ruining the look of my fancy new bathroom. I'm pleased. 4
