The doorbell works like it is supposed to and is durable!Original Review: October 8, 2018.We are moving soon and will have a nice new house with new doors and paint. Our old house has scratch marks all over the door frames and doors from our 4 very large dogs and 1 tiny dog scratching to come in and go out. So I was looking for a way for the dogs to notify me that they want to go through the door without the need to scratch on them. I was attracted to the Mighty Paw Smart Bell 2.0 because the activators don't need to be wired to anything or need batteries at all. I was skeptical at first that they would work without power. How can anything send a signal without it having energy of some sort? Then I saw that the energy comes from the force your dog exerts to press the button, and I realized the people who invented this were brilliant.My first purchase arrived, and I was very disappointed to find it only had one activator. I checked Amazon again and found the option to select a version, one with one activator and one with two activators. Double check before you buy! So I sent it back and got the right one. It comes in a labeled box with two activators, one doorbell that plugs into an AC outlet, extra adhesive pads, and an instruction booklet. It also came with bags of screws, but I took the activators apart and I couldn't find anywhere to screw the bases in. There are no pre-drilled holes for the screws anywhere, so I'm quite confused as to why they are included in the package.I used the adhesive that's pre-applied to the backs of the activators and placed them about 1.5' off of the floor on either side of the door so dogs of all sizes can hit them from inside or outside. I plugged the doorbell into the AC outlet, hit the activators, and they worked perfectly right out of the box. There are different settings for how loud you want the doorbell and what sound it makes, but I found the defaults to work perfectly.I find the look of the activators to be fine. They would be conversation starters and don't look bad.My dogs haven't started to hit the doorbell with their noses yet, but they have activated it a few times with their paws, so they're starting to learn what it means, and I know it is only a matter of time before they are trained on it. Their scratching hasn't damaged or dislodged it yet, so it seems durable on the outside as well as the adhesive. The product itself works perfectly, and I haven't found any flaws with it. Overall, I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to save their doors or wow their friends at their well-trained pets. 5/5 stars.UPDATE: September 23, 2019I loved our doggie doorbells! I got all three of our dogs trained on them. They stopped scratching on the doors and used the doorbells like clockwork. I gave up on the nose training and they took to hitting it with their paws very easily. The adhesive on the backs of the activators is incredibly strong because one of my dogs weighs 136 pounds, and he doesn't rip it off.One day about three months after they started using it regularly to come in out of the Texas heat, I noticed they went back to scratching on the door. I checked the doorbell to find the outside activator didn't work. I pressed it ten times and it only worked once. I kept trying it, and it was very unreliable. Not wanting to lose out on their training, I ordered another activator here on Amazon. I tested it a few times, and it worked fine. Then, I tested it a few days later, and it only activated once out of three tries. Therefore, I have serious issues with the build quality of these activators. The first one I had worked great for three months. The interior door activator still works great to this day, and we will continue using it at the new house. But the outside activator that is on a covered porch in a place where it doesn't get wet or dirty, ceases to work consistently. I still recommend doggie doorbells, but I might have to test another brand in the future. The two activators I removed from the door didn't do any damage, and they were REALLY toough to pull off, so that part is well done. 3/5 stars3Great Concept, But Could Use Minor RefinementThis is a great concept, with 32 different sounds. It only takes a very light touch to trigger the sounds, which is nice if you have a small dog that uses his nose to trigger the pad.If you have any dog training experience, this is a pretty easy thing to teach your dog to use. My one big concern is that a big dog using his paw is most likely going to knock this off the wall constantly, and/or break it, relatively easily. While the plug in unit (that makes the sound) is fine, the trigger pad would be better served if it were very low profile, and heavy duty. The way the trigger pad currently sticks 3/4" out from the wall is going to cause some dogs to accidentally catch the top of the unit when they attempt to trigger it, eventually knocking the unit off the wall and/or breaking it. I would make the trigger pad ultra low profile (1/4"-3/8") and cover the pad in something like replaceable rubber or silicone, to protect it from dirty paws, dirty noses - while protecting it from the impact of a fall, in the event of any knocks off the wall. This hard, bight white plastic will be prone to show every little mark - and it will not take any rough falls (from heavy paws) to the floor well.I have a large dog and haven't had this long at all. So, I will try to update my review once this product's sturdiness/longevity has had time to be properly assessed.I am a professional dog trainer, and am currently on Might Paw's product testing team. I received a discount in exchange for my honest review.4Great invention!! The amount of force needed to press it was just a little bit more then I was expecting. My pitbull puppy was having a hard time pressing it with enough force on her own to make it ring. A few weeks later though she realized she had to use more force, and she is able to do it fine now. The only thing I wish, was that it would've had 2 of the plug in noise remotes. We have a 2 story house and the potty area is downstairs. Since we want her to hear it when she presses it, we have it plugged in downstairs, but it's really hard to hear from upstairs! If there were 2 remotes we could have them plugged in at 2 different points in the house. Other then that one complaint, I would say this product is awesome. Our puppy caught on after about a month and now she hits it everytime, on her own! It's way cooler than the typical bells hanging from a door nob too! Everyone that comes over thinks it's awesome.******UPDATE!!!!*****You can buy an extra remote or transmitter, so that when the button is pressed you can hear it in more then one place in the house! Problem solved!!5Wish we had purchased this product earlier! We were looking for an easy way to break our two dogs of the habit of jumping up and clawing the door when they need to go out. This product is extremely practical! I wish we had purchased it when they were puppies.The device itself is very well made, the doorbell sound is loud enough, and it's nice to have two doorbells in case you have dogs of differing sizes.We are using peanut butter to teach the dogs to push the button on the door, and then other treats to reinforce when they go potty. So far ilthis is working, but it will be another month before they start to push the button on their own. We really should have started with this right away when they were puppies!5Needs another way to attach to the wallLet me start off by saying that the concept is fine. We can hear the bell all over the house and love the fact that there is no need for batteries. However, the product has one major fault. We have a young puppy and when he hits the bell with his paw it eventually comes off the wall. He then grabs it with his mouth and has a marvelous time running all over the house ringing the bell. We have gone through all the stickers. I was very skeptical when I saw that you just stick it up because having had several dogs I knew it would eventually come down. Mysteriously it came with several screws and anchors, but no holes in the back to put them in and absolutely no instructions other than to stick it on the wall. A very simple solution is to simply put a place for two screws and people can make the choice on whether to stick or attach it more securely. We ended up drilling two holes and attaching it to the wall and it seems to work fine now.3Fun for the dog and piece of mind for the human Our dog Zoey learned to ring the Mighty Paw bell quickly and best of all we can hear it throughout the house.We used sleigh bells in the past but she never really liked the sound from the start. One time she caught her toenail briefly in the bell and panicked. Frantically trying to free herself, the bells ringing wildly...it was game over. After that she would barely go near the door where we had them hung. I tried putting the bells in a sock, which helped a bit, but she only rang them sporadically and when she did it was so gently we could barely hear them.Enter the Mighty Paw. It was a game changer.1st - We were able to plug the Mighty Paw bell into a receptacle across the room so the sound wasn't right in her face and didn't freak her out. Plus you have like a million different sounds to choose from. Not high quality sound, but hey it's a dog bell not a Dolby sound system.2nd - The button itself is smooth and easy to press so no more caught toenails, paws or panic. She actually loves to use this thing.3rd - It has three volume levels so you can pick one that's just right for you. We like it loud so we can hear it throughout the house.4th - It's just fun! Friends and family get the biggest kick when they hear the bell and see that it's our dog ringing it.5A work in progress but... my dog is ringing the bell!So far so good. I have two chinese crested pups about 4 months old. I live in an apartment and am trying to train them to let me know when they have to go to the bathroom so I can take them out. Chinese Crested dogs are known to be a bit skiddish but super smart. Within 20 minutes I got one to ring the bell and run to me for a treat. I started by keeping the bell by the front door. After she was comfortable touching it and hearing the ring and associating this with a treat, I then moved it to stick vertically on the door. It didn't do so well there because it blended in with the door. I put it vertically on the brown coffee table/chest next to the door for contrast and although she noticed it better she had a hard time ringing it vertically verses being on the floor. I now ring the bell as I take them outside and say go potty. They have not yet associated it with going potty but she will ring it all the time now to get a treat. A work in progress.4Pretty good if I say so myself The noises themselves are good and maybe it was my batteries but it seemed to be flat and muffled when it played any tones. The lowest volume setting was still a tad too loud for my girl but after a couple days she got used to it and she loves it now. :) all in all it s a super great device and it s alot better than a bell that dents the door or claws that scratch the wall. Barely needs any pressure to click and it s made taking Puzzle out a whole load easier. 3Takes a while to catch on!I think the idea is really cool but my Pomeranian puppy and I have had such a hard time training to use this. It seems simple but when the button is pushed it either has to be pushed by you (assuming your dog will SEE you push it), pushed by your dog (assuming your dog is a genius) or pushed using a treat by your dog in which case its an accident that your dog pushes it and then there's a high chance your dog won't even understand where the noise is coming from. Like I said, reading the reviews and instructions and writing this review, it SOUNDS SO EASY and for some reason its not. It's flying way over my pup's head. Hopefully if you read this and decide to get it, you'll have better luck with it than I have.There are some really cool features I like about it if you DO decide to get it.You can change the tune pretty easily. You can also adjust the volume and its loud enough for me to hear in my three bedroom, two story home through-out even with the doors closed so that's really nice. I put my speaker on the foot of my stairs so it's in the middle of the house.UPDATE: She s using it!! After months of constantly trying and trying and making her push it everytime we go out she s finally pushing it on her own when she has to go out! Im super happy with this product now and I feel like even through all the frustrations, staying patient and sticking through it is so worth it!5May be difficult for smaller dogs to activate.My dog learned to ring the bell on command after about 5 days of working with him. Shortly after that I could get him to ring it every time before I took him out. It took him about 3 months however he now rings it to let us know he needs to go! He is only a 7 month old puppy so YMMV with animals of different age.My main complaint is the level of force required to activate the bell. He would have figured it out sooner if it required less force. Still he will often smack it without it going off and required 2-3 tries to make it ring. This still seems to confuse him that he needs to keep trying to push it until it makes a ringing noise. My dog is about 25lbs so while not a big dog is no little runt.It requires the amount of force that it does because they opted to use a battery-less push button that uses the energy created from the act of pushing the button to generate the electricity required to activate the bell. I would rather it be operated at a light touch and replace the batteries every 6 months instead.In the end I am overall happy with the product and plan on continuing to use it. However if they released a battery powered transmitter that operated on a lighter touch the product would be 5 stars all the way!4Good enogugh We have been using this doggie doorbell for the last two years. It replaced a metal bell system. I just purchased another unit because our family just moved houses and we are so accustomed to it that the replacement bell was actually the first thing I bought for the new house.Positives: Very easy to set up and use. Durable ours never came off the wall after it was mounted. Easy to train the dog to use it. We taught our dog to touch our hand on command with her nose using treats and a clicker. Then progressed to touching items we pointed at. Finally we pointed at the bell and every time she sounded the bell we gave a treat, clicked and opened the door. The process took about a day of training in 3 different sessions.Negatives: Too many ringtones, most of which are annoying. Also, I really with I could turn it off at or mute it at night. If there is a raccoon or deer in the yard, the sound of chimes is nonstop irritation. 4cool product but not super practical:) We had a doggy door for the dogs to go out of but with the backyard always being littered with clothes and things that the dogs would take outside to chew we needed to be in control of when they went outside!! We have 3 goldendoodles that are super smart! They know how to nose objects and are working in agility...that being said they will go and wait by the door but just will not push this button! The sound works great, it looks really nice on the all, very sleek, it just takes a little too much pressure for the dogs to push it on their own...I am thinking of just replacing it with a standard bell so that we can use a bell for the intended purpose:) It was a great idea and I was super excited about it...it just didn't work for us:( Nothing wrong with the product though!! My kids get a kick out of it and are always changing the sounds:):) 3Love the Product--support not so good We've had this for a year and loved it. It was pretty easy to train our dog to use it. We take it with us when we visit relatives, and travel in our RV. Very handy device. The only reason I'm giving a 3 is it only lasted a year. It then started working only randomly. Really couldn't figure out why. Contacted customer support. First request was not answered (could have been because we were only travel). When we got home contacted them again. Took a couple days to get a response. The 1st 'fix' didn't work. Contacted them again. Took a couple days and the 2nd 'fix' wasn't even for our device. Oh well, I hope we just got the one in a million 'lemon'. Have ordered another one (the dog is trained to use it so really no choice). Fingers crossed next one works a little longer. 4Doggie door bell... for the pup that has everything :) This is way cooler than those potty bells you normally see hanging from a doorknob as a way of getting your dog to communicate their need to come in or go out. The receiver plugs in and you can place the bell part virtually anywhere. There are several different "rings" you can chose from and you can adjust the volume. They even have holiday ring tones!! Still wotking on teaching my dog to ring the bell but she's starting to understand that touching the bell and hearing the song equals treats! This definitely takes some patience in training. We plan on using this bell on the sliding door leading in from the screenroom so she can let is know when she wants in. Oh and the bell part gets mounted with strong tape( included with extras) so no drilling holes! The only thing that whould make this cuter is if the bell was in the shape of a bone or a paw print. 4A perfect productNo problems with range or setup, everything worked perfectly out of the box. And it installs in seconds -- plug in the receiver, stick the buttons on either side of the glass on our back door. Done.Dog loves it too. She learned it it minutes: we had previously trained her to boop her snoot on things with the command word "target" so this was easy. We put a treat on the other side of the door, told her to "target" the button, and, boom she gets it.Finally, she won't have to scratch up the door anymore! I wish we had this years ago.5
