Customer Reviews

Meh ... ok but has it's drawbacks. I work in residential construction and I bought this to remove a large deck where the deck boards had been nailed on with ring shank nails. It works ok, but leaves a lot to be desired. My biggest complaint is that in order to pry a board loose you need to rotate it almost horizontally to get enough leverage. That is a real back killer and can be very difficult especially when you are standing on the joists of a second floor deck. If the paws were a good inch closer to the fulcrum I think it would be perfect. The tool is a heavy weight tool which is nice for brute work, but I was less than impressed with the welding at the bottom. It did serve it's purpose but I think I would look elsewhere if you are in the market for decking removal tool. 3Even the contractor who rebuilt my deck was amazed at how well this thing works I needed to have my deck rebuilt and before that could happen, I had to take all 72 boards off my deck in the hot July sun. This tool was invaluable in doing this work. Even the contractor who rebuilt my deck was amazed at how well this thing works. It saved me HOURS and major backaches in removing my deck boards. Highly recommended! 5Three Stars Mine says made in India! They really should remove the Made in USA part in the description. 1If you are taking apart a deck, you need this tool I have two houses and have taken apart 2 decks this summer. The first one (demoed without the Deck Wrecker) was about 150 sq. ft with 6"x1" deckboards nailed down. Getting the boards off required a lot of prying, pounding with a sledgehammer and time.It took about a day to get all the decking off.The second deck was about 350 sq. ft constructed in a similar manner to the first. However, the Deck Wrecker allows you to use the joist as a central point to pry off of. It only took about an hour to get the boards off.In addition, the deck wrecker is built like a tank. It should last a long, long time. 5NOT THE PERFECT TOOL BUT CLOSE THIS TOOL IS GOOD BUT NOT GREAT. First the pros: Hefty with a solid feel. Does the job with a minimum of effort. Strong, not bendable. Cushioned handle grip. Well fabricated in the U.S.A.!!!!! Now the cons: Rocks to the side when levering the end of the board, Needs to be lifting both sides of the deck board. Handle could be 6-12" longer for better leverage. Slots for removing nails are pretty useless due to the fact that the tool will rock to the side you are pulling the nail with. This is because the handle is centered between the paws and not in line with them. Now for job performance: The tool is good for lifting decking boards from deck joists. Will even work on doubled up joists, it just barely fits with 3+ inches between the paws. It saved me a lot of time and backache. For pulling stubborn nails from the joists, an old-fashioned crow bar is best. Overall, I'd give it 3-1/2 stars but I give it the extra half star for saving my back.. 4Great tool poor quality construction It is an excellant tool and worked well once I rewarded it. It made it through three screwed down 5/4 pt deck boards before the weld snapped. Finished that desk by other means, but then took the time to cut it apart and weld it all back together in a few more places then they did. Worked great since. Demoed two other nailed down decks with no problem. Works good enough I would buy another, but would cut and resend it before it ever went to a job site. 3This bar works great and it won't break!! I've owned this tool for a year now and must say that it s about time I write a review. When I bought this bar I read lots of great reviews, but they were mostly about nailed down decks.I wasn t sure how it would work with screwed down decking. Great tool for removing stubborn deck boards. It seems like every deck job I get involves removing deck boards that were fastened with 2 1/2" decking screws which became partially corroded. I always used a Gorilla Bar, but you had to place the fulcrum on the joist and angle the bar to catch the decking. With the Deck Wrecker there is no balancing or slipping. You just pry as hard as necessary. The board will either pop or bust off. Most of the screws will remain in the joist but the tool acts as a beautiful long handled cat paw. Works great. Works faster and takes much less energy, I love this tool 5Life & Time savor!!! I read several reviews of this item and many similar items before purchasing. I was initially worried about the welds ect. Until I used it. Demo d a 20 year old deck with stripped screws or broken head screws. I removed the screws I could with a cordless drill (about 50% or so) then used this to pry up the old deck boards. This was truly a life savor, spent about 30 seconds per 10 Foot board. Most boards would pry up intact which was great maybe 3 of 60 would splinter but that was only because several stubborn screws were hanging on. Very little effort to lift boards, zero complaints. I bought mine used through Amazon Prime cause I have no intention of putting it on display and it worked perfect. Well worth the price, way easier then a hammer claw or standard crow bar. A must for a rotted deck re-do. 5Money well spent!!!!! If you have a deck that needs taking down this is the tool!!! I had a few concerns before making this purchase; 1) strength of this tool (would it bend - IT DOES NOT!!!) 2) would I be saying to myself while doing my demolition "why pay the bucks when I could have done this with a crow bar" - that thought NEVER entered my mind when I was destroying my deck and 3) before knowing the price I watched the video and thought "I''ll pay $39-$49 for this tool." When I saw the $100 price I initially balked at making the purchase. Always a believer of "the right tool for the job" I did some research and found that all the feedback from customers who had bought this tool was positive. This is why I made the purchase: I didn't want to start my deck demolition project only to discover that a crow bar just isn't going to do the job. This tool made short work of the old 2x4s on my 30 year old deck. With this tool I was able to remove full lengths of the decking boards rather than the pieces I figured I'd be removing if I strictly utilized a reciprocating saw and a chain saw as I had initially planned on doing.I thought I'd cut all the boards with a saw - but I still would have had to deal with the nail removal. With this tool I pretty much eliminated all cutting and just pulled out full length boards. Why this tool works: the boards (nailed in, spiral nailed & screwed) were no match for the torque that this tool has. (Just to experiment I tried using a crow bar on a few boards. It works, but "you have to use more force AND you are bent over," unlike this tool that allows you to be standing upright while "pulling or pushing" on it - a real back saver!) 5Great Tool for Saving Your Time and Your Back! Our deck was in terrible shape and my husband and I who are not spring chickens, had to do the work ourselves. After checking the web for hints, I found out about deck wrecking bars. I didn't like the sound of the less expensive deck bars that had handle problems and ordered the Cats Paw. My husband thought that this was the greatest thing since popped corn and immediately proceeded to strip the deck boards, saving days of back breaking work. This tool is also amazing for removing the nails on the joists while standing, not kneeling, which is hard on eighty-one year old knees. Our deck is finished and he has repeatedly said that the Cats Paw is a wonderful tool worth several times the price. 5
