Customer Reviews

This light works I know there were a lot of reviews on this light. Some weren't great, so I was a bit concerned when I bought it.I needed a light on my front porch and didn't want to run a wire for an electric sensored light. A solar light seemed the perfect solution. I've used this light for several month now and am very pleased with how it has operated. We have aimed at the front door with the sensor sitting on the porch rail. Even though the sensor isn't getting the most direct sunlight, it has proven enough to charge the light for our usage. We've been able to set up the light to detect when someone steps onto our porch in front of the door. We no longer have to struggle in the dark to find our house key and try to figure out where the key hole is. It now is lit when we step up.This light was easy to mount with the included screws. It was also easy to set up the timing of the light as well as to adjust the angle of the sensor. While these controls for adjusting the timing aren't the easiest to get to after mounting the light, that has proven to be no big deal. Overall, we've set this up and have left it along to do its thing ever sense. We now have a light and we didn't have to run wires! 5Little Light, careful where you need it for First - let me tell you what I LOVE about this light. The settings, for me at least, as easy to use and offer a wide range of choices. It has three control setting. When you want the light on, day time to night time, your choice anywhere in that time frame. How LONG you want the light to stay on once it senses motion (stays on the through all motion, the timer starts when the motion stops) from two to four minutes. I would say 45 seconds to five minutes is a little more accurate. And Sensitivity, from high to low. I want mine to pick up cars and people, so I set it to medium. So far the rabbits and skunks are still in the dark, my daughter has a lighted path from the driveway to the porch. It is easy to install, but you may want to get a little stronger 'mollys' if you live in a windy place or are installing it on sophit instead of wood. It is durable - we dropped it ten feet during installation - it still works and didn't break! The light is bright enough in pitch dark (no solar powered light will ever match an electric light in my lifetime!!) a soft glow that doesn't blind you or attract bugs. The ability to point the two lights where ever you want makes it perfect for Driveways and walkways, or two corners of your house! The solar panel is adjustable in angles, so you can find the best location for the panel without compromising where you put the light (LONG cord between the two as well).Second - what I don't like. This unit has a 25' sensory range. Seems like a lot, more then enough. BUT if you put it up on your 15 foot garage peek, you really have a ten foot motion sensory range on the ground. The sensory does have a 180 degree range, and can be pointed/positions to the area you need to pick up motion in, but unless you are installing it on the ground, expect to have to be up closer before it lights your way.Over all - great product...I will be getting a few more (now that I know where I need to install them to get the best light coverage from them). 4nice little light I've been using this light for a week now and so far so good. It's obviously not as bright as a regular light but still pretty good when I compare it to how dark my backyard looks without it. It's bright enough to see objects and not trip over anything but dont expect to do any reading with it. The light is a lot dimmer 10-15ft out or that could just be all my trees blocking the light. The light has 3 settings.Sens: for sensitivityI currently have it set at the lowest setting because it seems way too sensitive if I turn it higher up. At the lowest setting, it is enough to pick up people's movement but not my dogs. So when I let the dogs out to pee at night, it only turns on when a human go out.Lux: for level of light before it turns onI have this set to the lowest too since I dont want it turning on during the day and so far it's only turned on at night even with the gloomy & rainy weather the last few days. (Hey it still charges. Yay!)Timer: for how long the light stays on (pretty self-explanatory)The light does what it's suppose to. It charges even with gloomy weather (keep in mind I dont use it that much and one charge should last several hours). Been fine with the rain although nothing heavy since it's summer. I like that it uses regular AA rechargeable batteries if you have to switch out the batteries. It is 180 degrees because it turns on the moment I walk around the corner of the house into the backyard. Remember to point the sensor towards the path. My brother had just installed it as is and it was pointing at the trees. It would turn on every night due to the movement of the leaves and branches until I adjusted the tilt and turned down the sensitivity. I would recommend this if all you need is a little bit of light when you need it and there's no power outlet there. Would not recommend if you need more light. Hope this helps.UPDATE 1-1-2012Still working well. What more can I say? It was money well spent.UPDATE 8-27-12Still working although I've had to clean the sensor or it get's hard to sense movement. It's lived through wind and rain, not that the weather gets so bad here. It's also held up well to the vast amounts of dust that come by as I live right next to an extremely busy freeway and a major intersection.UPDATE 11-23-14Still going strong and we barely ever clean it. Works rain or shine.Update 1/14/16Still works and it's been raining pretty hard now that California is coming out of the drought. Just realized I've yet to change the AA batteries in this light. I like this type of light so much that I've bought two others in the last year (http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00D0Z0JWQ?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage). The new lights are brighter and function pretty much the same way but no telling about longevity yet. 4Stopped working after 3 months I've had this product for less than 3 months and it's already stopped working!! REALLY disappointed. I never spend the money on what I think is the top of the line product and now i know why. my cheap solar motion light that i got a year ago,may not be as bright, but still plugging away. I would NOT recommend this product or spending $50 on it.Crappiest thing is that i don't even know what to do with it now that i have it all secured to my fence doing NOTHING.DO NOT BUY... 1A very capable security light These are a great addition to the solar floodlights (Sunforce) I purchased a while back. The MAXSA 40218 have the distinct advantage of being better at controlling settings for sensitivity and "on time" duration, and the spots they shine are very bright considering they have so few bulbs in each lamp. The cord is very long and that's great for flexibility in installation. One disadvantage these have from the Sunforce lights, is the mounting of the solar panel. These are only adjustable in one direction, whereas Sunforce uses a ball joint mount with 360 degrees of movement. This is only a drawback in terms of adjusting for summer to winter changes in daylight, but chances are most installations are going to be fine in one spot. You do want to be careful how you mount the panel ("measure twice, cut once"). The lack of adjustment on the panel mount means you want to orient the base correctly the first time...unless you don't mind drilling additional holes in your home to get it right the second or third time :o)I purchased two of these and they both work like champs! Good product - would definitely recommend to others.Cheers! 5Great! This is a great motion sensor light. It is perfect for areas that have no electricity to hook up to. It's not incredibly bright but for the application I was using it for it was exactly what I wanted. So just bear in mind when you purchase this that this is great for an area that you want to have a nice light if you go out to take the trash for instance, but it's not bright enough to light up the backyard. 5Security light, an overused word. This light isn't bright enough for security, the throw is a dull 15' circle. A full moon lights better than this. In the right area (100% dark), it might be useful for lighting up something a thief wanted to steal. The huge 40' range is actually 15' at best. I have tested this from every angle a dozen times, my light is mounted 7' above ground. A security light should light the night and shock the area with light, alerting me and anyone else on the block, someone is there. You won't even look up if this light turns on.On a side note; To me, the best true security light would have a flash mode. Enter the range and the light flashes, a true alert someone is in the wrong area.Sadly a flashing security light isn't currently made that I know of. Buy an 80 led solar light, these light up night property. This light should be called "walkway light". 2Shine On This has been installed for months now and it it doing a great job. I feel a lot safer with it as I get light automatically when I walk by in the evening forgetting it's mounted out of reach on our roof top. Then off it goes shining it's little beacon of light on my path and keeping me safe. It also lets visitors know that they have been spotted so no night intruders in that side door. Even the racoons stop and contemplate their destination now. Nice, simple and working hard at its new job protecting the family. 5Great! I purchased this product to illuminate my front porch without having to keep the porch light on 24x7. When I leave home before 6 AM it is dark and when I get home after 6 PM it is dark, so this seems like the perfect solution. I was a little concerned how well this product was going to perform because my porch is a shady area that does not get direct sunlight for most of the day, and also my front door and the mounting location are 20 linear feet apart. I'm thrilled to say I have had no problems with the device getting enough sunshine to power the bright LEDs enough so I can lock up every morning and open my front door several times each evening. I have had this up for a few months now and it is performing flawlessly. The size is good and compact, but the performance is wonderful I would buy this all over again. 5Motion detection: perfect for some, blind for others. I explain why... This review is not part of the Vine program nor was it sponsored in any other way. When these reviews state that this unit is for small areas they are referring not only to the brightness but also the sensor's range. For my purpose the eye was too far away to be useful EVEN THOUGH the specifications claim otherwise.I highly doubt that any application mounting the eye higher than about 8' is applicable. The eye seems to only see a narrow slit. If you have ever seen ocean pictures where the top 40% is sky, the bottom 40% is sand, and the middle 20% is water- this eye would only see the water. So mounting it high yields massive blind spots, well, more like blind provinces. The light I would say is near but not under 200 lumen (my box says it is "New 2X bright.") If you are looking to... I won't say "light", lets say "shadow blast" an area larger than about 10'X20', you may be returning this. I do need to say that the light distribution pattern is PERFECT!! and makes up for many other shortcomings. Yet the plastic mold is amateurish. If you are mounting this on the side you get weather from I would seal the back and in any case run a bead of sealant across the top where this unit meets the wall. I did not take apart the solar panel but it felt unsealed as well so you may want to order a tube of caulk with this unit. For the record, the price is $44.84 on 7-20-12.If you live near a Harbor Freight store, they have a decent looking model which runs $30-40 (they are always having 'specials') you might want to look at. I have not tried that one though.Happy solar-powered shadow blasting! 4
