It is the most compatible with Maxell discs and I have been using them for years. I found other disc brands that worked as well but were too expensive and some that were lesser cost but did not work at all with this recorder so I have been loyal to Maxell. This offering on Amazon was a good price and just in time for me to replenish my dwindling supply. I saw complaints about packaging and performance in the other reviews but these arrived intact, in excellent condition, and are working just as I expected.I see that the price has nearly doubled now so looks like I ordered these just in time :) 5Great Product, Horrible Shipping! We burn a lot of DVD's and have been using these Maxell DVD-R's for a while because they play on all of our DVD players without an issue and seem to skip far less often. They are great quality.However, the condition that these arrived in was ridiculous. The case was literally cracked and breaking apart. It really wouldn't be difficult to throw a bubble wrap AROUND the whole case instead of NEXT to it in a box and prevent this. So far, the DVD's seem to be unaffected, but I won't be surprised if some were damaged. 4Maxell Always Delivers Top Quality Products I have been using Maxell products off and on since I was a kid going back to the VHS era of recording media. Although I have used other brands as well, I always find myself going back to Maxell. I recently ordered three 50 packs of these Maxell DVD-R discs and after being hesitant to buy blank media from Amazon (Even as a longtime Prime member) after a bad experience I had after buying what turned out to two defective 100 packs of Verbatim DVD-R discs years ago, these performed as I expected them to and confirmed that the bad experience I had years ago with the Verbatim brand does not reflect in any way on Amazon and I believe it was more of a case of a lesser known brand and poor packaging of the spindles from Verbatim, not Amazon. As someone who spends a lot of time recording to blank media for personal/private use my advice to those who aren't as familiar with reliable brands with regard to DVD recording, go with brands that you know and trust. There are only two or three brands of discs that I will buy. Maxell is one of those three and now that I know I can buy them from Amazon and not have an issue, I will be buying Maxell discs more often. As far as the defective Verbatim discs years ago, Amazon apologized for the problem and gave me a full refund so I have nothing bad to say about Amazon, but would advise fellow customers to stay away from Verbatim brand discs. Thanks again Amazon and Maxell. 5Work great in Philips DVD Recorder I have been using Maxell dvd's (both +R and -R) for many years and have never had a problem with a single one. They are used in a Philips DVD Recorder. I have never tried using one in my computer drive so can't say how well they would work there. That I've had nothing but problems & disappointments with, including failed RW Format discs & R recordings that appear O.K., until you playback to discover, dropouts,freeze points & distortions, which can say that after making thousands of Recordings, I have never experienced with the SUPERIOR QUALITY,DEPENDABLE, RELIABLE ("MAXELL") Recording Media! 5Read the Manual! After ten years of recording on my DVD recorder, it suddenly would not read the Philips DVD-r's I had always used. I assumed my recorder had finally bit the dust so I began searching for a replacement. Little did I know that the DVD recorder I had bought for $165 years ago are now priced around $400-500 new, if you can find one.This had something to do with copyright laws I assume. I looked on craigslist and found one in new condition for $150. Different brand, exact same machine. Mine was a Magnavox, and it's replacement is a Funai. This is not surprising because I believe they are all made by the same company with different branding.Fortunately for me this unit came with all the manuals and what not, and in breaking with tradition, I actually read the instructions for a change. To my surprise it detailed the brand of media recommended for the Funai DVD recorder. There were several, but the one easily available to me was the Maxell DVD-r. Just for kicks, I tried recording on the old faithful Phillips brand DVD-r and the Funai would not read it. Hmmmm. I tried the Maxell DVD-r and low and behold it worked perfectly. Now, I thought, what about my old machine? Would the Maxell media work on it also? The answer is YES. So now I have two machines that work perfectly with the Maxell media. My advice is, READ your manuals. Why my old machine suddenly stopped reading the Phillips media I do not understand. Maybe Phillips changed something in there discs to prevent recording on a recordable disc? That doesn't make sense. Now I only buy Maxell for my recorder(s), and still use the Phillips for my high speed duplicators, which work fine. 5They work for me. Bought because it works in sony model 690. Well satisfied with them. 5
