Customer Reviews

Solid, intimidating lock. Worked perfectly for a moving truck. This lock is heavy and solid and seems like the biggest lock you can fit on a moving truck. I purchased it hoping to use it to lock my Penske 16ft moving truck while driving cross country and it worked perfectly.I was afraid it would be too thick for the latch on a moving truck but it was perfect. I don't know much about lock technology or how difficult it would be to pick, but to the amateur it looks very intimidating and like it would require a lot of work to break, so I'm happy with it. 5Solid but will it fit? Look below! :) If you want a solid, heavy lock pick this one. HOWEVER, make sure it will fit in the hole you want to put it in. I tried to use this on a UHAUL pod/ubox and this lock was too big. The lock's arm when I hold the ruler in front of it appears to be ~3/8 of an inch thick! 4You would be ASTONISHED at how easily most padlocks are picked (even quality brands). But not this one... Many people have no idea just how easily most keyed padlocks are to pick. You can buy lockpicking kits and instructions right here on Amazon and you will be picking locks in an hour. It's not hard to do - really. I gave my daughter a wrench/rake and a five-minute lesson and she picked three regular Master padlocks in just a few minutes (the first one was picked on the first rake). You don't need to be a spy or something to easily pick padlocks. This is NOT a regular Master padlock.I'm a "locksporter" (a recreational lock picker), and I've picked dozens of locks. Some are harder than others, even if they're of the same make/model. I have a box of Master and Brinks padlocks that I go through while watching TV. I can pick most of these locks in a few seconds (if it's not opened on the fourth rake I regard it as a failed attempt and start over).I only have one of these locks (they're expensive) and it's REALLY hard to pick. I've picked it only three times, and it took me well over an hour each time. It requires far more skill with both the wrench and the rake than any other lock I have ever attempted. The tolerances are very tight, but the spring forces are very strong, so it's hard to get just the right pressure. As a pin falls, the wrench motion is almost imperceptible. This is why I believe that my lock is not just a particularly difficult example. I think any lock of this model will be hard to pick, because the difficulty comes from the design and manufacture, and not from the profile of the key (which is what makes most other locks more or less difficult). The shackle is also very thick - make sure your application will accommodate it. Also, FWIW, the shackle is not spring loaded (you have to tug the lock to open once the key is turned). 5Better than a Rock! I got this as a replacement for my 10 year old storage unit padlock hoping for a Master Lock standard and I got it! This is a seriously heavy duty lock (1.4 pounds) and I will feel much better with this beast on the door. As others have said, the bad guys will have much better luck ripping the door off than busting this lock. As the description says, this has a thick shackle and will not fit on your locker. If, however you have a heavy chain or the right size hasp to put it through, you're going to have the right package. The only thing I would like is the "Don't loose my keys" factor where the key is locked into the key hole while the lock is open and can't be removed until you relock it. This one is locked in when you turn the key to open it but while the lock is open you can still turn the key back and remove it. That is a preference though so I have to say that for the price, you just can't beat this pad lock. I highly recommend this product. 5Great for outdoor trailer use! solid construction. no spring release. just looks impressive and works great. use this for outside use when my trailer is hitched to my truck. the chain lassos the trailer's welded area and this lock latches it to my truck hitch where your emergency chains hook up to. just one of 3 mechanisms I use to dieter theft and make it more secure then my neighboring trailers in the lot. 5Large and Strong This lock is a beast. While I have not put it through an actual stress test, there is some serious heft and solidity here that would deter any thief. When compared to the other puny locks on neighboring storage units, this is the last one I would try to break into. Apart from the raw intimidation of this lock, the key actuates smoothly in the lock and it clicks open like the vault doors of fort knox. Have only used it inside so cannot speak to rust, but so far it has held up perfectly. 5Does not fit in hole at Public Storage I'm writing this "review" so that perhaps other people looking to use this at Public Storage could avoid some hassles. The 11mm shackle diameter is too big and simply doesn't fit in the latche's holes at Public Storage. Because I'll be having a lot of valuables in the storage unit temporarily, I wanted the best lock deemed affordable, and was initially extremely happy to select this. This lock literally brings me back in time to the days when I had to check-in semi-trailer loads at the receiving dock of Target - it is extremely beefy and looks just like the one's the semi-truck company used on their trailers - to secure the ~$500k worth of inventory on any given truck. The locking/unlocking of the padlock is also buttery smooth - way smoother than my regular $8 MasterLock padlock I already have. I took 1-star off because no where on the packaging does it state the diameter of the shackle - so if you happen to be checking this out at a brick and mortar store for instance, you'd have no clue that it would/wouldn't work for your application unless you go to MasterLock's website. 4The best for the cost, dependible and strong This is most likely the strongest lock Master Lock makes, I have used this as a bike lock down town on a street notorious for having bikes stolen. The lock has been left outside in snow and rain and exposed to the road salt for over 3 years. It looks like crap now very rusted and tarnished but it always works, doesn t matter if it s 5 degrees outside and it s at the bottom of a snow bank it has always opened and locked for me. Also this lock is practically immune to 36 bolt cutters which is very impressive, fire department was training on how to combat padlocks with their special tools, all padlocks broke in seconds, except this one, it took over 12 min of 3 men pounding away at it none stop with pry bars and sledge hammers extremely impressive. (note this is not an ultra-high security padlock, it is pickable and 48 bolt cutters will defeat it. Look for Abus / Abloy if you want a lock better than this) 5THIS PADLOCK IS BETTER THAN SOME LOCKS PEOPLE HAVE ON THEIR FRONT DOORS! There are padlocks that are good and others that look good that are really junk. This Master Lock is no mere pretender. Instead this Master padlock is the real deal. The shank on this Master Lock is bloody HUGE! This Master Lock is heavy and well built. The key for this Master Lock is HUGE, bigger than my front door key. A big key by itself does not indicate a quality lock, I know this. The key has a complex shaped pattern. All my research says this lock is among the better choices in this price range. The facts are simple. This is a better quality pad lock. In general whatever you lock up using this Master lock will likely be there secured upon your eventual return. This lock is of a quality build that even bad weather should not adversely impact this padlocks functioning. This padlock is made of a solid hardened steel of a quality above most lesser, cheaper offerings.Let's face it NO lock is absolutely secure and given enough time any lock can be compromised. However a quality lock like this Master Lock will likely take longer to pick. Every moment spent by a criminal trying to defeat this lock increases the likelihood of being caught. Good security is about creating blocking access long enough to make the risk profile needed to rob you unattractive to malefactors. This Master Lock offers a better security posture because; it is simply harder to defeat \ pick than most cheaper locks. The solid surface offers less opportunity for water, moisture and contaminants getting into the locking mechanisms. The large key is solid and unlikely to bend or deform with use. The lock does not have a spring loaded mechanism that opens the shank. You must dislodge the shank upon successfully opening the lock using the key. The thicker shank means the bolt cutters needed to cut this lock will need to be stronger. Like I said any lock can be defeated but, this lock makes the process of infiltration much more of a challenge. You want criminals to say you know what, This lock is too difficult to break, its not worth my time. There are easier cheaper locks to break. You want criminals to move on and this lock will encourage them to do just that! MOVE ON! 5Very Good Lock It works exactly as expected and it's very durable, but with the durability comes the weight of the materials. This is a very heavy lock for its size, but it makes sense as it's made of Boron Alloy and the body boasts that it's "Solid Steel."I've decided to help any possible purchasers out with a list of accurate measurements, which I find the product information to be false.Attached Images:- Lock height: 4 3/4"- Shackle width: 1 3/4"- Shackle diameter: ~7/16"- Body width: 2 1/2" 5
