Customer Reviews

Takes some skill to get these to work properly This was not my first time installing drawers with drawer slides, but it was my first time installing ones using these soft-close slides. I will say that after some initial struggles, I now understand a little better how to avoid some of those frustrations. It is of course critical to have everything as square as possible, but you cannot be more that a sixteenth of an inch off your measure, or you will need to shim for certain as the soft-close mechanism will not work. You will also have to take your time to determine what exactly needs to be shimmed, i.e., the drawer or the cabinet.Compounding the challenge I faced was the fact that I was attempting to install 12 sets of slides for some built-ins I had constructed in my daughter's room. I also had one slide that the plastic component that locks and unlocks the slide mechanism broke while making adjustments, which resulted in the purchase of an additional set. I recommend that you work out the kinks with some workshop cabinets before you attempt to install these for something a little more refined; you'll thank me later. 4Works wonderfully on my daughter's Ikea dresser! I bought this to replace the cheap sliders that came with my daughter's Ikea brand dresser. After a while, the original sliders in the Ikea dresser began to bend from the weight of my daughter pulling-down force on the drawer when it was fully opened. This resulted in the drawer no longer sliding in and out in a smooth motion. No matter how much I tried to mold the plastic sliders back to its original form with my hands, the drawer still wouldn't slide smoothly. Furthermore, I didn't like that the original plastic sliders were not soft-closing. Whenever my 6 year old daughter closed her dresser drawers, everyone in the house knew about it. Such a loud noise! Now with the Liberty soft-close ball bearing drawer slider, the drawers close smoothly and closes softly. So nice! However, please be aware that installing this is not simple. There are lots of YouTube videos on how to install this. However, these videos assume one thing: That your dresser is perfectly measured-out and symmetric. By this I mean that the left and right side of the drawer have the same exact measurements and that corners are perfectly 90 degrees. As I was installing the first set of Liberty sliders in I was very disappointed to see that the sliders were not lining-up exactly. I'm not sure if it the dresser was put together imperfectly at the Ikea factory (probably) or the wooden parts in the dresser shifted or warped ever so slightly over the 5 years we had this dresser that made it not symmetric. So, I had to uninstall the sliders and painstakingly measure everything out individually (left side and then right side), all the while contorting my body so that I can get my eyes on the far-back part of the dresser to measure things out. I found out that the right side was 1/16th of an inch different from the left side. That's enough of a difference to throw off the positioning of the sliders and therefore cause the drawer to not open-close properly. Having said this, let me emphasize that this is NOT a problem with the Liberty drawer slider. This is a problem with the dresser! I just want consumers to be aware of this before they install this new slider. 5No Durability - falls apart While adjusting the drawer these were for, I had to remove the drawer a couple of times to access the alignment holes. After the third time removing the drawer, the slide resisted and lost several bearings. Had to remove and toss. Another small item is no screws were included. All others I have used in making drawers have even included the right screws.Biggest gripe is the slides fell apart so soon. 1These are GARBAGE I built an 8 drawer base cabinet using 16 of these slides. Several sets of these showed up broken because Amazon doesn't use any packaging materials within the box. The slides are heavy and a cardboard box results in the plastic soft close mechanisms showing up broken because the slides are slamming around inside the box and backing on stuff as they're shipped to me.Over the two months I have had these slides installed, every single one of them has malfunctioned in one way or another. From just a sticky/hard to close and open mechanism to the worst - completely failed soft close on our most used drawer, the silverware drawer.Liberty's rear mount bracket is a JOKE!! it is really VERY bad. I had to buy all kinds of metal brackets and try them all out. I found a make of bracket that worked reasonably well and allowed me to rear mount these brackets.I wasted a lot of money on these. buyer beware - buy cheap buy twice. 1Not very durable With the large amount of plastic used in the retracting mechanism on side mount slides, I have found that this design and style is not very durable. The last pair I bought only worked for 2+ years and then failed (soft close retractor no longer functioned - it would slam close) - it was on the drawer with spoons, knives and forks, so it is cycled many times a day. I have 12 pair in the kitchen. I have also two of them fail after only a few days. I am slowly going through different manufacturers and styles in hopes of finding one that will actually last.So far, the ones that I have found that are not very durable: Promark, Liberty, Gobrico, GlideRite.Haven't tried yet: Rok Hardware, Knape Vogt, Decorite, King Slide, Fulterer, Accuride, Berta, UHPPOTE. 3Don't work very well! I have built probably over 300 hundred customer cabinets, normally go with another maker, and regret I tried these. They simply do not work as advertised. They bind, do not retract well, even after a series of adjustments, shims, re-alignments, etc. they prove not to be worth the extra man hours in getting them to open and retract smoothly. The springs are very weak and the plastic tensions appear to be wearing already only after about 10 - 15 open & closings. 1You Get What You Pay For These slides worked fine until I added the weight of the drawer box after installation, then they needed a lot of fiddling. They call for a sixteenth inch set back from the front of the face frame, however in my case, they would not fully seat once the drawer box was installed requiring me to set them back another eighth inch. They have no adjustments for spring tension, and alignment is only by installation tweaking. The cheap, soft metal Chinese screws will fail if your project is hardwood, so you will save yourself some headaches if you just use other hardware.I installed four sets of these slides using their recommendations, and after a couple of hours of messing with the alignment etc. they work marginally well - one set out of the four works nicely. Frankly, I bought them because they were inexpensive (cheap) and they proved to be just that.I would use them again in projects that do not come under the scrutiny of a discerning critic. 3Garbage I don't write many reviews, its either if something is really good or terrible. Thats these drawer slides, they are the worst pieces of garbage. I know they aren't blum drawer slides, which are expensive but for soft closers probably the best way to go. The soft closing part didn't work on 9 out of ten of the slides, so if they don't work why bother even having a soft close function on it. I disabled the soft close function so now they just work as a regular ball bearing drawer slide, also they were properly installed, i'm a carpenter, and made jigs to install correctly. Ive bought regular ball bearing decora drawer slides on amazon and they worked fine. So my opinion is don't waste time with these, if you want soft close drawer slides and thats important to you, go with blum. If cost is an option just go with a regular ball bearing full extension drawer slide, this product wont soft close or some of them will, it will frustrate you and in the end take way longer than it should. Just my two cents. 1the drawer slides are as smooth and easy as any non soft-closing slides I've been building my own cabinets for years and have used this style (non soft-closing) of slides for quite awhile now. This was the first time I bought the soft close feature of this style of slide. Since I build box style cabinets using melamine coated particle board, the issues people bring up about weak screws for hardwood aren't an issue for me. The one thing I noticed is that they do require more force to open than a non-soft close style slide. Why is this? The answer is in the way they create the soft closing. When you close the drawer, the slides stop your force near the end, and they themselves pull the drawer closed the last inch or so. How do they do this? The answer is that when you open the drawer, you are loading springs at the back end of the slides, thus providing them the stored energy to do the work of closing the drawers all by themselves for that last bit of travel. It's that spring loading energy you provide that makes the drawer seem harder to open when compared to a non-self closing drawer. Once you've loaded the springs, an inch or so of initial travel, the drawer slides are as smooth and easy as any non soft-closing slides. My new kitchen design forgoes any cabinet doors on the lower cabinets, opting for large drawers instead, which seems to be the choice for higher end custom kitchens. I'm still building the cabinets so I can't comment yet on how these drawer slides work over time. Once I finish the project and have a chance to evaluate them over time in practical use, I'll update my review. 4I see quite a few poor reviews for these I see quite a few poor reviews for these. Dont know why. The tolerances must be exact otherwise you will get binding, just with any drawer slider. The self close feature is a nice addition to help keep the drawer closed as well (using these on a vintage trailer). Great product! 5
