Customer Reviews

A little pricey but great product from Leviton as usual These are amazing outlets! I ahve ordered a bunch to place all over my house especially next to night stands so I don't have to deal with USB adapters for power, I can plug my USB cables directly into these to charges my devices. These have worked great for iPhones, Android Phones, Windows Phones, iPads, Kindles, and other USB charge capable electronics.I have both of the USB ports occupied, and can still plug in standard 2 and 3 prong outlet devices in without an issue. While a little pricey, I don't have to worry about finding USB charging adapters anymore. 5One StarWorked great for 6 months and now the USB plug no longer works.1Watch out for out of spec USB port output > 5VI installed one of these since they were highly regarded, but I after plugging one of my devices in to charge and leaving it to charge for some time, I noticed that it was super hot and the lithium battery started bulging out of the casing so much that it created a permanent bulge. I immediately unplugged it and then checked the port using my DROK USB 2.0 Digital Multimeter, Ammeter Voltmeter Capacitance & Watt Meter and the port was outputting 8V (see first photo), which is way out of spec as it should be a nominal voltage of 5 V 5%, ie. it should not be more than 5.25V. At 8 V it is 5 V 60%! I checked both USB ports and they both were 8 V. The AC outlets were fine, as confirmed with a Sperry Instruments GFI6302 GFCI Outlet Tester). My iPhone 6 and iPad Air would not charge when plugged into the ports, so maybe they (thankfully) have circuitry to sense when the voltage is out of spec and then refuse to charge. So I went and installed another receptacle, and thankfully it outputs right at 5V (see second pic). The bad receptacle is going back, but I will periodically check the output voltage on the replacement ,since this experience has left me weary of the quality assurance done on this product.2Broke with minimal usageOnly been installed for 2 months, and it's broken and non-functional. It just stopped charging the other day. When I removed my USB cord, I noticed the part of the outlet broke off inside my cable. The same two charging cables have been plugged in for the whole time it's been installed, so I have to credit either a faulty product or a manufacturing defect.I was really surprised to have a problem with this outlet. I have an older model (one plug/one low power USB/one high power USB) that has been trouble free for several years.1Great product, but be conscious of your outlet depth This Leviton switch is amazing. I have purchased several of these and they allow for rapid charging of my devices (I have a series of Samsung Galaxy devices which require high-powered USB charging, and this does wonders). The downside to this is that it requires a pretty substantial wall opening. Older homes will not be able to accommodate the depth of this product, as I have encountered in a couple of outlets. However, if you have a home that was built in the last 25 years or so, this should work perfectly-- and wondrously.WARNING: Keep in mind that as power standards change, this outlet will become outdated. However, if you're the kind of person who wants USB chargers embedded in your wall-- you already knew that :) 4Replaced it with another at no charge to the customer but just one call back is to many in less than a three month time frame and I will lose more money if others go bad with in a yearI am an electrician and bought an 8-pack of these and installed a few in the last couple months and had a call back today for one not working and it was the receptacles that were not working. Replaced it with another at no charge to the customer but just one call back is to many in less than a three month time frame and I will lose more money if others go bad with in a year.1WONDERFUL Addition to Backsplashes These outlets were EXACTLY what I needed to finish off my black glass mosaic backsplash! They were easy to install, appealing to the eye and very useful with their additional charger plug ins. Once you have one of these outlets, you'll want more of them to scatter throughout your entire house! 5and it works fine on iPhone 5S For some strange reason, the left-hand side USB port won't charge an iPhone6. It isn't the cable (we've tried many), and it works fine on iPhone 5S. But, when you plug the 6 into the left hand port, instead of charging, the phone thinks it's an unregistered accessory, and provides a message as such. This does NOT happen on the right hand charge port. I don't blame so much Leviton here, but Apple can't seem to leave well enough alone and has to consistently change how cable and power plugs deal with their phone. I would be willing to guess that any other phone on any cable would work fine. So, we charge our iPhone 5S on either USB, and when a 6 gets plugged in we have to use only the RH port. :-( 3Quit in less than a yearIt worked fine for 9 months then one of the USB ports quit working, then this month, one month after the first USB quit working, the other side quit and it will no longer charge anything. Ive plugged several devices in with cords that work fine with other chargers and this receptacle will not charge anything. Its too bad because this is a very handy device.1Leviton vs TopgreenerI've been retrofitting the old-school duplex outlets in our house with both Leviton and Topgreener USB outlets, along with Leviton Decorated Plus commercial grade outlets.I can't say much more than what other reviewers wrote, so I'll touch on the differences between the two top sellers.Quality - Leviton gets the edge. They're both made in China, and both UL certified. Neither feels cheap, unlike the rebranded no-name-odd-wallplate outlets that are all over the place here. (I think the Topgreener is also a rebranded generic outlet, but it's not as ubiquitous as the oddball $12 outlets.} Still, the Leviton feels a little bit more polished and solid. Plug action is a bit smoother. It's not a rebranded generic outlet. It's a brand you know.Appearance - tie. The surface of the Leviton is smooth, but it projects a few millimeters from a standard Decora/decorator wallplate. Spacers or washers help a bit, as does using a Lutron Claro wallplate. The surface of the Topgreener is a bit rougher, but it sits flush with a standard wallplate.Accessories - Topgreener. It comes with both a standard decorator wallplate, and a nice clone of the otherwise pricey Lutron Claro wallplate. The Leviton doesn't have any added wallplates.Ease of installation - tie. Both allow traditional side wiring, and push-in screw-secured rear wiring, just like most commercial grade outlets.Charging power - I'll edit this is someone buys me a USB tester.Packaging . Topgreener. A simple cardboard box, with polished branding/graphics and a cellophane window. The Leviton comes in a clamshell/cardboard hybrid package that's not difficult to open, but you're still dealing with plastic.Neither hum or buzz. Neither can be wired for a half hot switched outlet. Neither have an indicator light. Both have instructions in readable English. (and, for the Leviton, Spanish and Fremch.).The verdict - a draw, really. If you don't mind paying a bit extra for wallplates, and don't mind that it takes some work to get the face flush, and are brand conscious, go with Leviton. If you're looking for bang for the buck, and you're using Lutron Claro wallplates (and draining your checking account in the process), Topgreener has the edge.5Great solution to the "charging devices anywhere" needs of a family! Works as advertised and seems to be compatible with a wide range of USB chargeable devices. Tested with Apple ipad Air, iphone 6 plus, 5S on the apple device side. Also charges Samsung Galaxy 5S, Dell Venue 8 3845 tablet, HP x2 10" tablet (HP PS is a 3amp 5v unit) , Nexus 7, old Garmin 3.5" GPS, Belkin and Fintie bluetooth keyboards, and no doubt I'm missing several other devices.I gave it 4/5 because the USB ports are still difficult to plug in to with even standard 3-prong AC plugs in the sockets. I'm always looking for skinny type-A USB cables at work with the right mini/micro type-B plugs that can fit in the USB plugs on this unit with AC plugs in use too.Installation and size of this is what I would consider "normal" to "slightly over-sized" compared to standard 15A 120V dual socket. If you have a normal wall box (blue colored box behind the drywall), it will fit. Specialty sockets, like kitchen counter sockets behind laminated wood/marble/tile might be a tight fit. Make sure to measure!!! 4Love the plug configuration This outlet replaced a regular outlet in our kitchen. Love the plug configuration. We have two appliances plugged in and can charge our two phones all at the same time. And the wiring in the back of the outlet allows daisy chaining if this outlet isn't the last one in the circuit. The outlet is fatter than a regular one because of the USB charging circuitry but it fits within standard receptacles. 5Awesome outlet upgrade In a world where nearly everything is charged by a USB cord, this is a must have. Outlet is a little bulkier than a standard outlet, so it's a little tighter squeeze in the outlet box. Does a great job of charging iOS devices w/ the cord plugged into the USB port on the outlet. This outlet accepts the Leviton Decora screw-less wall plates, I recommend you check those out. We used a plain black Decora wall plate with this outlet, and it looks much cleaner than the traditional wall plates with screws. 5Boy was I upset It doesn't put out enough USB power to charge Apple products. So if that's what your looking to do STAY AWAY from them. After ordering 3 of them and installing them. I find out that they aren't good enough for the application. GRRRRRRR and they aren't cheap either. I figured with a such a main stream company they would be rock solid. NOT SO MUCH 2Works with iPhone 6 Plus.Charges my iPhone 6 Plus seems faster than the charger it came with, which is consistent with the reports that Apple ships a 1A charger with the iPhones and this charger outputs 3.6A. The outlet does protrude beyond the faceplate about 1/8" but it doesn't bother me.The outlet that I replaced had 5 wires attached, 2 black, 2 white, and a ground (bare). On first glance it looked like this Leviton only had three screws (white, black, and ground), so for a couple minutes I was confused on how to wire this, but after reading up and looking at the wiring diagram, I saw that the white and black screw clamps on this Leviton accept two wires each.5Great way to clean up those USB charging cords! Love this thing. I was getting tired of running an extension cord to my end table to plug in my lamp, plus charging cables for my tablet and phone. Decided to update my end table with modern conveniences by installing this outlet. I mounted it inside a regular outlet box from the hardware store after cutting out a whole in the side. What a difference! Now the cords are nicely contained with only a decorative extension cord running from behind the end table to the outlet. No more cords all over the floor! 5Fantastic, highly recommended and totally DIY :)This dude is great! It works perfectly and was super easy to install. BUT NOTE, it is girthy (see pics from others). If you have a small receptacle box (i.e. the box that is behind the drywall), you may need to re-evaluate. My home is newer (built in 2006) and has larger receptacle boxes. There were a LOT of wires in the receptacle box that I installed mine in (probably a junction box), so all you should need to do is just shove all the wires out of the way (left and/or right) to make room for this girthy unit.I had no issues making it semi-flush to the receptacle plate, just pay attention to not torque it down completely before installing the face plate.I installed one in the kitchen, at the end of a long... counter top where there is a desk-type area. Perfect place for it. I can charge 2 USB items and 2 115v items all at the same time!Because it's in the kitchen (a wet area), the outlet is on a GFCI circuit (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupt). Again, it was super easy to install, just 3 wires. You can do it!!!!!!! I didn't bother to turn off the power to the house/area because the outlet where I installed mine is a 'child' of a main GFCI receptacle. I just pressed the 'Test' button on the parent GFCI outlet to shut off the power to the child outlet. Sounds complicated, but it's not. You can totally do this!!!Absolutely fantastic!! I've been looking around the house to find other (convenient) places to install more of these units.I hope this helps you out. Happy DIY Amazonians :)5Prone to breaking. All USB outlets have a tab that keeps you from plugging a cable in backwards. It also provides some rigidity to the contacts. This outlet has sort of week tabs that tend to break easily. I installed two of these for four USB outlets total, and two of the four are broken in less than a year. I am now considering replacing these with normal outlets and going back to the wall warts. These do a good job charging, even IPADs, which draw a lot of USB current. When you put a largish plug into the bottom AC outlet, you may not be able to also plug in a USB cable.3Good Quality, but Enormous Great Leviton Quality, does fast charging well, and the arrangement of the USB plugs makes it so you can use all four positions at the same time. But boy-howdy these things are huge. Never could get one of them to fit in a compact single gang box. If you want to use them, be sure you've got room to spare in the box. 3Great plug and you don't need wire nuts if it is in the middle of the circuit. This is a great addition to my house. I love that I get 3.6amps of charging power and get to keep both 120V plugs. It charged my Note2 from 47% to 100% in about 1.5hrs.I was worried that the USB plug would interfere with the plugs, but they do not. Also, I have read a few reviews that there is only 1 screw for the Hot and 1 screw for the Neutral causing you to have to use a wire nut if the plug is not at the end of the circuit. While it true that there is only 1 screw each, there is a clamp at the terminals allowing you to back wire 2 wires on each screw. (I will try to add a picture.) It clearly explains this in the directions. It does stick out a bit from the plate and the plate is not included, so don't forget that.5
