Customer Reviews

paid 15$ for an 8GB USB that says Ubuntu on it Product description is deceptive. I had a netbook I repaired with a totally blank HDD, Was unable to boot to this USB even though product description states it is bootable. It contains the install files for Ubuntu 16.04 but it is not bootable on systems with no preexisting OS. I shelled out the 15$ for this just as a matter of convenience since I planned on putting this OS on the netbook. Anyways, I ended up having to boot to an old ubuntu distro I had made a bootable USB for several years ago and installing that first in order to install the new version. Instead of saving myself an hour for 15$ I increased the time it took to get the netbook running by an hour and have an 8GB USB drive that says ubuntu on it. On a positive note the USB stick is sturdy and well made... 1Easy Way to Expand Computing Horizon at Minimal Cost Excellent service and product. Ubuntu 16.04 Bootable 8GB USB Flash Drive w/Boot Repair & Install Guide was shipped promptly. Live version made it very easy to confirm it worked with my WiFi. Full replacement of Windows 7 on an old HP Pavilion dv6 went smoothly. Now I am happily exploring Linux on a circa 2012 platform that long sat dormant. You could do this all DYI if you already know GNU/Linux. But if you don't, the self booting installer is the way to go. 5One Star Does not work. Can't even boot. Got the errors ACPI_ERROR etc.. After googling around i realized i need to add "acpi=off" to the grub.conf. in the hind-sight, if you already have windows 10 like us, it's probably easier to start from scratch (just buy a USB stick and flash it yourself) 3Ubuntu Linux IS Better than Windows 10 My 7 year old HP laptop was running so slow with Windows 10. It seemed that with every Win 10 update it got slower and slower. I was getting tired of waiting for Chrome or Edge to load. It would take 2 or 3 minutes for my laptop to wake up after being in sleep mode. I got fed up with waiting and waiting so I decided to take the plunge and try Ubuntu Linux. I was delighted to find that I could boot Ubuntu right from the USB drive without installing it. I was so surprised to find that Ubuntu found all of the hardware on my system. EVERYTHING WORKED from video to mouse to my WIFI.All I had to do was type in my wireless password and WOOLAH, I was on the internet! I was still a little skeptical so I decided to install it with a Dual Boot setup so I could boot either Windows or Ubuntu at startup. The installation was so easy. I didn't have to mess with any drivers, Ubuntu even found my wireless printer and installed it without any fuss. I was up and running in less than 15 minutes. The is a slight learning curve but found that after a week of using Ubuntu I was so comfortable with it that I completely removed Windows 10 from my hard drive. I would recommend getting the "Getting Started with Ubuntu 16.04" user's guide which helped me tremendously understand the differences between Windows and Ubuntu, and answers many questions beginners might have. Ubuntu comes with a ton of free software including a complete Office Suite that has all of the functionality of Microsoft Office. Just in case you have any windows software that is not available in Ubuntu, there is a Windows emulator that will allow you to run just about any windows software. THE BEST THING about Ubuntu is that it is FAST! My 7 year old laptop that has only 4GB of ram runs faster than it did when it was brand new with Windows 7 which came preinstalled. This is because Windows is Bloated with all kinds of unnecessary code which makes it very inefficient. Ubuntu on the other hand, loads almost entirely into my 4GB of ram making it very fast because there is very little swapping going on. I am completely satisfied with Ubuntu and truly feel it is better than Windows, at least for my purposes, but you will have to try it to believe it. 5Top of the line OS Tired of paying 100 bucks every 2 years to keep up with Microsoft changes? Try Ubuntu. Quick easy free and lacking the massive amount of viruses that plague windows. I have a windows computer for games. But It is better if it is never online. Ubuntu is great and easy to use. The USB drive is the easiest way to load the computer. It even allows you to make the mistake of leaving WIndows on your computer if you wish. The USB is easy to install. It leads you through all areas of installation. New versions are released every 6 months. If you want to load the new version just click it..Free and open source and state of the art. I have used UBUNTU for over 5 years. You can also just use the USB to run a free version on your WIndows box with no changes to settings.Load your computer then use it over and over again. No COA required no fees to use no hassles of WIndows downloading updates when you are trying to do something. Everyone should try it. Bill Gates really doesn't need your money. 5I love Ubuntu Linux I love Ubuntu Linux! I've used various versions of Linux before, but I think this is one of the easiest to get used to. i have pretty much abandon Windows after almost 30 years and a lot of frustration. It's hard to wean yourself off of something after that many years, but Ubuntu Linux has made it easy. I still have a lot to learn about Linux, but Ubuntu makes everything pretty easy to learn. 5As long as your computer will boot from the USB port this works as advertised I had two computers that stopped loading windows. They were both on an anti-virus but within a week both shut down effectively. I used this on both of them. One computer was able to boot from the USB port and it worked fine. It reconfigured windows and now Windows works. The other computer I haven't figured out yet how to load from the USB but I'm certain it will work. 5Lifesaver! This usb really got me out of a jam! I have a dual boot PC with Win10/Ubuntu on it. Windows wouldn't boot so I ran their recovery utility from a usb. Windows never did recover and worse I picked an option the said it would just delete my files but not format the drive, but after that my dual boot menu was gone and Ubuntu wouldn't boot. So my PC was a brick. I downloaded a Ubuntu ISO on my macbook and copied to a usb key, but that usb wasn't bootable on the PC.So rather than mess around I ordered this usb and the PC booted to it and I formatted the drive and made it all Ubuntu. bye-bye Windows! If you look at the cost and convenience it is a good value. Less than $10 difference between this and a blank usb key and you know this one works. 5Distribution version of ubuntu on USB Ran as stated, I am not a UNIX guru took a little bit of experimentation to boot as there are 3 selections at the time of boot.Limited documentation. I purchased for the purpose of installing a cryptocurrency wallet on a system that is not continuously connected to the Internet.I found that while one can install applications on the Ubuntu operating system desktop that boots from this USB... that is not the purpose of this device... when you reboot you will find that the applications you installed are no longer there. (As I stated before, I am not a UNIX guru) That is because this is an Ubuntu distribution version on USB... you will need to use this USB to create a bootable operating system on ANOTHER USB. Only after this will you be able to install programs that are static and remain on the bootable USB. Best instructions for this are on YouTube. 4Didn't Work At All My previous Ubuntu grub would not load, so I tried the USB. It didn't work, so I stuck a Mint DVD in. The Mint worked just fine. This is not the first time that Ubuntu has fainted on me. I'm done with those distros. Hopefully, Mint is more stable because I like the menus and nuance better anyway. 1
