Customer Reviews

Only "issue" is that the items didn't match what the little place card said they were, they were in different compartments. This is a non-issue though as the pictures on the place card are clear. 5I hit the jackpot mine had a full Arduino in the Box It's a good kid. The instructions are bitten possible but that's been explained in other your other reviews. What's funny is ours came with a complete Audrino in there as well so i couldn't be happier. If you read the reviews he see that sometimes they get parts that weren't expected or are missing a part that was expected. And who can argue with getting a free Audrino in there. 4Very Arduino heavy - Not very Raspberry Pi Friendly First let me say, I am overall pleased with this kit. The selection and diversity of sensors in this kit is enough to keep an experimenter, new or old, busy for quite some time. That was part of the draw for me purchasing this kit, along with the price. Now, on to the important stuff. I purchased this kit along with the CanaKit Raspberry Pi 3 Ultimate Starter Kit (32GB Edition), The Raspberry Pi for Dummies book, and the Uniker Raspberry Pi - 5 Touchscreen and Case (my reviews for those are under their separate listings), thinking this batch would be a good starter set since I am totally new to the Raspberry Pi scene. All the products came very well packaged in one box, although I do have to questions Amazon s shipping model (a subject for another time). I found the Kuman sensor kit to be wrapped tightly and neatly in plastic to avoid its possible accidental opening and spilling of the contents. The case is a small, simple, plastic see-through type that you might find anywhere, useful for holding parts of various sizes. Before opening the case, I did give it the once-over to check for any possible damage. Finding none, I removed the plastic wrap and opened the case to inspect the parts. Opening the case, I was greeted with a seemingly well packed case. On the top, packed between the actual parts and the case cover, were the resistors, an envelope containing a mini CD, and a parts chart. I said earlier that this was seemingly well packed. I removed the envelope from packaged and ran into my first issue: the included CD had been snapped in half, presumably from the force pushed upon it from closing the lid on it. More on this is a bit. My inspection continued. All parts are presented in mini zip-lock bags, and in some cases, two parts to a bag. The bags are not marked in any way (with one exception), leading you to either guess at which sensor you re holding, or compare them to the (thankfully) included parts list. One part, however, was marked with what I can only assume is a 7 and not sure what else, leaving me to believe this was the 7 color flash LED and not the IT emitter, as they both look very similar. A part by part inspection also found that I had received 2 light cup sensors, and no heartbeat sensor, but all other parts were accounted for. Some of the parts had bent pins, mostly due to the fact that several parts were crammed into the same spot, some as many as 4 at a time. Perhaps a larger case would have prevented this .??? Also, keep in mind that this particular kit DOES NOT contain the ADC0832 Analog/Digital converter module mentioned in the documentation and needed for some of the sensors/projects. Now, back to the CD. I would assume any necessary documentation would have been included on this CD, so I fired off an email (though Amazon), requesting the possibility of a replacement, specifically mentioning I needed the information for the Raspberry Pi. I will say that their customer service is somewhat good, as I received a reply in less than 24 hours. Instead of verifying a replacement CD, they instead emailed me a link to their online documentation that I could download. After visiting and downloading the documentation, I discovered that all the information focused on using the sensors for Arduino boards, NOT Raspberry Pi. I sent off another email, again stating very specifically that I needed the information for the Raspberry Pi. I received another email, this time with a different link that led me to the needed information. Unfortunately, the Pi documentation is EXTREMELY sparse. You re given file folders for example codes in both Python and C, however, the files listing for the parts well you re given numbered files that don t match the parts list, and you have to open them to find out which part you re dealing with. Also, you re given a very, VERY crude hookup schematic (something like LED = 16 PIN = 2 ) that doesn t really help a whole lot. In contrast, the Arduino side of things has everything laid out nice and neat: each file is named with the appropriate part, there are drawings and diagrams showing where and how to hook up each item, and there s even detailed information regarding each piece (if you can get through the large amount of broken English). I suppose if I were more familiar with Arduino, I could transpose the information, but for someone starting out with the Raspberry Pi, it s not much help. Be prepared to do some research. All in all, this really is a good kit for the price, but with its current documentation, I wouldn t consider it a starter kit for the first time Pi owner. You could probably find a better documented kit elsewhere. 4Overall, a Great Kit! I am enjoying the Sensor Kit. It seems to be a great deal for the price. It is well packaged and easy to use and the tutorials are easy to follow, especially for a beginner like me. I've only had two problems with the kit.1. The RGB LED board seems to have a broken trace. If I press down hard on the board when it is plugged into the breadboard, it seems to work OK. But if I don't press down, it does not work. Perhaps it has a broken ground trace on the circuit board?2. The Laser Emitter does not work at all no matter what I do. I have used it on the breadboard and also connecting directly but it won't work. All the other modules seem to work just fine. I've already been in contact with Kuman's customer service and I'll update after I hear from them.UPDATE! UPDATE! UPDATE! UPDATE!I changed it to five stars based on customer service. They responded and helped me fix both problems within 24 hours. Good job! 5An Excellent Purchase This is a nice collection of sensors for both Arduino and RPi applications. There are several that I'll never use, but they're fun to play with, and the ones that I will use are good quality, individually wrapped, and come in a sturdy plastic box. if I had to make one suggestion, I ask them to label the bags better. Some of the sensors are a little difficult to tell apart. I consider this a worthwhile purchase and I would have no qualms about buying from Kuman again. 5Very high quality and great supplemental mini-CD with information that is clearly written A bargain priced design kit. Very high quality and great supplemental mini-CD with information that is clearly written. An excellent package for design ideas or to introduce a new-comer to micro computers. Wish I could have had this when I was teaching computer science. 5Five Stars Good kit to get started SBC computers 5Tons of fun to experiment with! A few of the sensors needed repairs, a few header pins were soldered together, no biggie. I've read that Kuman is good at replacing these items, but it was an easy fix. I would highly recommend this to anyone learning with an Arduino. I haven't tested any of the sensor's at the Pi's 3.3V logic, but everything is easy-peasy on an Arduino Uno. If you don't have a CD drive for the included CD, there are a lot of places to find sample code for each unit. There are also a lot of sites with documentation on the hardware used, just do a little googling with "Kuman 37 kit". 5Well... it seems kind of randomly thrown ... Well... it seems kind of randomly thrown together. I haven't used anything out of it yet but will soon. Some of the pins are bent from being forced into the trays. So some concern. We shall see. 4Great product, bought it as a gift for my ... Great product, bought it as a gift for my boyfriend who studied robotics engineering so he can have some fun. He says it's definitely got many opportunities for many projects and he loves it! Only downside is he said he needs connectors (albeit easy to find and buy). Recommend!!! 5
