Customer Reviews

Good value tools I really like my knipex tools. I think they represent a great price to value product. Perfect, well no. I recently purchased 3 various pairs of their diagonal cutters. I took a small file and took some edges off all 3 that I think they should have taken care of in production. I don't much care for snagging my rags (or my skin) when I'm wiping down my tools. Having said that, I don't think it's enough of an issue to ding them a star and I would (probably will) order more of their stuff in the future. As for this specific pair, if I had to do it again I think I'd have ordered the 7401200 (8") pair instead. I bought this specific set to replace a pair of 7.5" pliers and in comparison these are a little smaller than I would have liked. 5The best These cutters are used on a daily basis. I am a professional automobile mechanic and have had inexpensive cutters and one day I decided to buy these and I will never buy another inferior brand. They cut with ease. 5Great cutter but dented the blade with a nail. I received the Knipex 74 01 160 today and tried it against my Channelock 337. I also have a Knipex Pliers wrench and Cobra Pliers and love them. I'm an AV installer and use my diagonal cutters a lot. I am very impressed with the hardness of the edge and the cutting experience both of which I feel surpass the Channelock. Everything was perfect with these knipex until I tried cutting a 2mm nail... Having referenced the Knipex product catalog, this shouldn't have been a problem. The slightly longer Channelock 337 cut through it with out damaging the pliers. The Knipex however, could not cut through it and left a dent in the cutting blade. Now I have a brand new damaged knipex pliers that won't finish cutting fine copper stranded cable at the back of the blade. At the end of the day, I'm not sure whether to buy Channelock or Knipex as the Knipex cost double. 3Good enough for Mythbusters. . . I've wanted to try a set of these since Jamie Hyneman, from Mythbusters, praised them. I was in no hurry since I already have quite a few other side cutters and linesman pliers from Gearwrench and Channellock. Once Amazon had a deal on them, I bought them. I own 3 sizes of Knipex Plierswrench and 2 sizes of Knipex Cobra pliers, so I knew the quality would be there, but what really surprised me was just how much better they cut. (I compared them to my new, never used, Channellocks side cutters that I keep in my off-road bag.)These made replacing the safety wires on my garage door springs a quick process by allowing me to just cut the old cables off. I didn't have to fight with loosing up a bunch of cable clamps. These are the only ones that cut through the 1/8" wire rope with little trouble. And they required less pressure, and cut better, than the Knipex 8" bolt cutters. These are now my "go to" cutters and I fully understand why Jamie praises them! 5Very dissatisfied, bought 2 pairs will be replacing both. They look well built, feel tough. Good reviews. These were my first thoughts. I have had these a little over a month and today they came to the point where they will not open/close anymore. 27 dollar cutters only lasted me 1 month when i have had 7 dollar cutters last me 5+ months. I am a cable installer so cutting coax and 12 gauge copper wire is the worst actiong these have seen. Too expensive, feel dull, grip is not comfortable. DO NOT GET THESE go for Klein tools cutters way cheaper better quality. 1A really well-made tool If I got sent to maximum security prison with a pair of knipex cutters, I wouldn't be the least bit worried. I'd be out in a day. Got these after getting frustrated with all of my generic brand (Husky, newer Craftsman) cutters. Those would choke on trying to cut a motorcycle throttle-type cable - the cable even dented the cutting edges! - but these cut the braided cable like butter without the slightest visual ding to the cutting edge. I've been upgrading more of my tools to Knipex since, and I see now why people love these so much. 5Better than Klein Best side cutters. I'm an electrician, mainly residential, I have and still use Klein. My Kleins generally last about a six months to a year and the cutting edge (tape cut test) declines (still cuts tape but not as clean as new). The Knipex lost a very slight edge at around six months but have held the edge for almost 2 years now, it still cuts tape cleaner than my Kleins. As for bolt cutting, I have cut standard zinc bolts #6, #8, up to 1/4" (being cautious, I usually give harder stuff like the 1/4" and stainless a second bite). Steel wire, copper, aluminum, smaller diameter stainless. I even cut a notch out of a hex box lid. The long handles really allow you to consider misuse of the tool. These are pretty spendy so I haven't tried cutting hard carbon steel, like a grade 8 bolt, slotted channel or it's hardware. When I first saw these, I though "holy cow, they are sure proud of these to ask that much for them." I kept coming back thinking "you get what you pay for," and also realized there is a reason they can ask this price.Awesome, expensive, but awesome. 5Just buy them. Excellent performance. I am a journeyman electrician and bought these because I occasionally need to cut a 1/4-20 bolt, and even though that's slightly over this tools rated capacity it's still a single handed operation, even at 52 years old.. The tool is made in Germany, and I bought the version without the comfort grip, because it fits easier in my pouch. It goes without saying ceiling grid wire, and foundation wire is a snap to cut. 5THE BEST cutters I've ever used! Knipex delivers! I am 100% - no, scratch that - 200% satisfied with these cutters from Knipex. These are hands-down the ultimate cutters. I simply can't stress enough how effortless they are to use, how tough they are, and how high the quality is. They have extremely high leverage and seem to be immune to any type of damage on the cutting edges. Coat hangers, heavy gauge wire, small bolts, even nails... I haven't tried to push them to their limit, but I know without a doubt they would stand up to just about anything that will fit in the jaws. The capacity is rated at 3mm hardened piano wire. I have no doubt they would cut at their capacity without any damage or wear.I've been an industrial maintenance technician for 15+ years and have worked in many types of manufacturing and production type facilities. The challenges my tools face are steep. Every tool adds weight to my bag and must earn their place as highly valuable and a "must-have" tool. These Knipex cutters have a permanent spot in my bag. Some people might refer to these as "dikes". I have a coworker who has the Klein high-leverage cutters in his bag. The Klein is a fine tool, no doubt. If I wasn't aware of these Knipex cutters I would have bought the Klein. They are great tools and I have nothing bad to say about them whatsoever. BUT - If I had to choose between the two, the Knipex wins, hands down - no contest. These cutters have replaced all my old cutting pliers in my tool bag and are my main go-to for the toughest cutting jobs. The old cutters I have are simply unworthy of a place in my tool bag - they are like toys by comparison, and they now gather dust and rust in the junk drawer. 5Great for cutting Fish Hooks These are the best dikes that I have ever used. I have used them to cut Hardened fish hooks, and they work very well. They are long enough and slender enough to get down into the throat of a Bass's mouth and cut a Worm Hook in half for removal. For Catch & release Bass fishing, these will help you to avoid killing some of the bass that have swallowed the soft plastic lure. The rumor that just cutting the line and leaving the hook in the fish's gullet is WRONG -- Texas Dept of Parks & Wildlife conducted research, and proved that fish Hooks do NOT rust out quickly. Large hooks left in a Bass's gullet will kill them most of the time. 5
