Customer Reviews

Good Enough for Homeowner Use I bought this hole saw to make 36 4" holes for recessed lighting in several rooms in my house. The cutter works great. You just have to make sure that you slowly feed it into the drywall. You are locked into 1/2" increments but that was not a problem for my particular application. The dust shield was very effective at cutting down on dust but is cheaply made (blister package type of plastic) and is easily cracked (hence the 4 stars). Mine came with 2 dust shields which were both put to good use before each failed. I got about 12 holes out of each dust shield before it cracked. Once I cracked the second one I got creative and duct taped the crack and kept going. If you are installing recessed lighting, you won't regret this purchase. I believe it cut many hours of manual cutting and, potentially, patching mistakes. 4BUY IT! So my husband bought this to help so the recessed lights in our kitchen. I got it in the mail and thought "What's this cheap piece of crap?" Honestly I was soooo wrong, yes it may look cheap, it may not last a life time, but if you're doing 2-15(total guess) amount of lights in your own house, this is a TOTAL must have.I barely had any clean up to do when he was done and it took seconds to cut THE PERFECT hole for the lights. 5Worked decently, however not for professionals The bowl is quite flimsy, and can't be considered a long term tool, however it did work ok for installing 6 can lights. It seemed to cut ok, although it did tear the edges somewhat. It's not a professional product, but for the price, it worked. As a homeowner, it will be something that will work for the limited cieling holes I will be cutting. 3Beware, you're "locked in" to 1/2-inch increments... I'm not going to knock this cutter too much for its biggest flaw, but it IS worth mentioning. In the interest of quick adjustments and accurate left- and right-blade settings (both blades need to be equal distances from the drill bit for this to work properly), Klein pre-drilled stops along the length of the arm for the blades' set screws to nest in, for perfect dimensions every time. The problem is the pre-sets are at 1/2 inch increments, and that's not always what's desired.Although Klein cautions to always lock the screws in to the preset positions, I've had success splitting the difference and screwing them in to the undrilled portion of the blade arm. This allows a little more freedom of adjustment, as long at the desired hole size isn't too close to a 1/2-inch increment (because then the set screw jumps over and nests in the pre-drilled hole). The dust catcher is simply part of the packaging material, sandwiched between two washers. it's not super durable, but so far has performed the task well.Dispite the size constraints, the presets more often than not make set up a breeze, and this is certainly preferable to keeping on hand a variety of oversized, traditional single-size hole saws. 4Works great to contain dust, don't just plow through the drywall. Works fine for cutting holes. Does a good job of containing the dust. Problem is the blades are barely long enough to cut through drywall so the edges of the cutter make a black ring around the wall if you aren't very careful and stop just before you complete the cut. I was using it for 3.5" holes so the rings were visible. I understand there could be good reason to have the blades so short, prevents you from cutting through things that may be behind the wall you didn't know was there, but something to be aware of. 3This thing is garbage The cutting blades are too dull, so they end up just "grinding" away the drywall material to make the hole. This creates a lot of mess, and a ton of kickback. Depending on how strong your drill is, you need to be really careful cause you could injure your wrist / arm if the drill gets stuck and kicks back at you. The product was finicky and hard to use. And when I got it right, it just didnt work well.Save your money and buy a Dremel or a rotozip with a drywall bit. That would be a much better investment than a $25 piece of plastic and a janky drill apparatus. 1Terrible product. I have been remodeling for over 15 years and have an extensive collection of tools. This product was awful. Read directions completely, worked carefully and bit broke before two revolutions. Very touchy with cheaply made bit. Save your money. Or buy extra bits if you can along with purchase. Also 4 inch lights required a four and a quarter inch hole but only comes in half inch increments for cuts. At least the plastic packaging came in handy for cutting a hole with my drywall saw! 1Does the job well I was a little hesitant based on some of the reviews, but really needed a means to cleanly cut holes. I cut eleven 4-1/2" holes in 1/2" sheetrock w/o much difficulty. I can see how one could destroy the tool if they didn't take their time. A slow feed rate is important. I cleaned the cutters after drilling 4 holes and ran a file over the edges once. The tool leaves clean holes and the dust collection is good. I would expect larger holes would put more stress on the tool and increase the chance of damaging the cutters. Again, a slow feed rate is probably more important as the hole diameter increases. Hold your drill securely - lots of torque to handle! 5Not the Klein tools I know Very disappointed !! Carpenter for over 30 years. All my hand tools are Klein. This product does not come close to their usual quality. Bit snapped on 3rd hole. 1Solidly built, works as described. I'm a semi professional remodeler and wanted something to keep the dust down installing can lights. I like tools I can keep around and keep usuing and was a bit concerned with the reviews on this. The cutter was solidly built with good blades and easy adjustments the dist shield works great and there is a spare if you need it. The only complaint I have is it only has the detents for 1/2" increments. I just tighted it in between the detents and was just fine drilling a few 6-1/4" holes for can lights without touching it. I would recommend this, worked just as described. 5
