Customer Reviews

Compare to eBags Professional I really wanted to like this backpack as much as the eBags TLD Professional. I spent hours researching different bags. It seemed to be similar design, but at a much lower price tag. This is a long review, but I broke it up so you can hopefully get the answer you are looking for without reading the entire thing. Pros and cons are at the bottom. One of my favorite things about this backpack stands up on its own and doesn't 'flop' or collapse on itself. My comparison and thoughts are below. If you want the short version: If you are on a tighter budget but want something functional and professional, this is your best bet for a backpack, but not meant for travel or carrying larger items.Space:Unfortunately I wouldn't say it is comparable space-wise, and that is the only downfall of this bag. My only complaint with the compartments is actually something I thought would be great - how the main compartment kind of expands when you open it. In actuality this just means when you put something in and close the bag, I nearly always have to force it close while zipping up. The eBag has the fully open main compartment that doesn't need to be forced closed. However, for a simple work bag with a laptop, small items and some books, it works perfectly. I used to pack my gym close in my old bag, and putting shoes a water bottle, and a few clothing items in here nearly overfills the compartment.Quality:Quality-wise, it is top notch! I am extremely impressed with the quality of this bag. I have zero complaints. It looks professional, and feels great while wearing it! I might even say that it is a bit more comfortable than the eBag. I suppose part of this is related to the size and how it fits well on my back. The stitching is solid, which is important to me considering I had my last backpack for well over 9 years of daily use. I want something that will last.CompartmentsThe laptop compartment is pretty standard. I do appreciate the extra padding at the bottom to absorb shock from setting it down. It also contains a tablet slot, which works fine. Like I mentioned above, the main compartment is a bit small, so just be aware of that if you purchase. It also contains two smaller elastic slots where I am able to store an external HDD, and my laptop charger. There is a convenient side pocket that I store a few small items in on one side, and a water bottle holder that can be used after unzipping on the other side. It is a bit small, but looks great while not using it. Zipped up it can be used for holding other items without fear of them falling out due to being zipped - a unique feature. The front compartment has a great array of little space dividers - which is really what sets this backpack apart from others and makes it comparable to the eBag. I have a small assortment of things like quarters, hand wipes, flash drives, hard drives, etc. stored. However it unzips at the top, and does not swing out like the eBag which was one of my favorite things. The outer flap covers this section so it looks sleek and professional. There is also a small zippered compartment (that is about the size of a Ziploc bag) on top that is great for a wallet or phone - I use it daily.Comfort/StyleThis is where the backpack really shines. It is probably one of the most comfortable backpacks I have worn. It has three breathable 1/4" pads at the top, middle, and bottom of the back rest between the straps. The eBag either had to have the straps too tight where I struggled to get it on, or a little more loose which made the backpack sit lower and was less comfortable. The other notable difference is that the zippers do not constantly clink like the eBag. I had to buy 'zipper silencers' for the eBag (didn't even know they were a thing until I needed them!). This bag does not have any annoying clinks.SecurityThe locking system in this bag is amazing! It is so clean and crisp. It is easy to place the zippers in the lock quickly, which is important to me since I leave my bag at my desk during meetings and have some IT equipment in there. I really like this feature and wish the eBag had something similar.ProsBag retains shape and 'stands' on its own and does not collapse in on itself when there are not items in it.Professional-lookingHigh qualityNumerous functional compartmentsExtremely comfortableFantastic security lockConsMain compartment is too small 4Elegant day to day backpack I was looking for a backpack for a day to day use in the office that also could look good while wearing a suit, without expensive hundreds of dollars. This backpack from Kensington is the perfect combination for me. Not too elegant as a leather one but discreet enough to look good in an office environment.Inside you have three generous spaces that surprisingly keep the shape without deforming it. That is very appreciated because the backpack can stay up while left in the floor and also gives a look of compaq bulk. The lock is a nice touch but you need an additional lock with you.You can carry the bag in the handle of a cabin suitcase and also it has an own handle in case you want to carry it by hand. All an all, a very good option for great price. 5KENSINGTON'S RARA AVIS: A bag that delivers EXACTLY what is advertised AND MORE on Amazon!!!! In an era where little is ever delivered exactly as it is described, this Kensington 17" lockable backpack is a rarity. Although nothing is perfect - and I would like a brighter color interior to see items down in the deep/abundant pockets better, and few small changes made - overall the design, materials, workmanship, and functionality for a Million Mile intl business flyer like myself are as close to perfect for my needs as I have found. (photos to come)I rarely if ever check a bag, because as all road warriors know, that is death to getting in and out of airports quickly or worse they get lost or tossed. So having this spacious - yet easily stowed under most airplane seats/overhead bins - overnight bag is so helpful. If you pack smart and it isn't dead of winter at your destination? One can easily pack two day's of business casual attire in the clothing section, plus a 15 inch MacBook Pro (in well padded area), 10.5 iPad + keyboard (also padded), headphones in case, digital camera, 10k backup battery/chargers + cables, two iPhones, sunglasses, readers, a Kindle, 750ml SIGG waterbottle (inside or in zippered exterior holder), keys (on provided clip), mini umbrella, magazines (if you still do that tree wasting stuff) and work folders with plenty of room to spare. Fully loaded, it rests as well on my shoulders as it does sitting atop my rolling carryon.I don't need to reiterate the excellent descriptions and photos in Kensington's advert above only to say that all claims are true, and point out some important details that I don't remember them emphasizing:1. This bag empty is VERY light for its dimensions: a huge plus in this era now that airlines weigh everything going on the plane (and no doubt soon will start weighing customers!)2. The twill nylon exterior looks quite nice and seems good for resisting marks and tears (will update after a month on the road)3. Unmentioned, the bottom of the bag has a high density, likely waterproof, rubberized PVC layer to protect against it being ruined on rough floors or in wet places.4. There is a discrete yet handy top zip pocket just below the carry handle that accepts my RayBans in a hard case, or could take a passport + wallet, keys, and or a smartphone or two for easy access in airports etc.5. As all laptop bags should, it has the lie-flat TSA friendly laptop section for those who aren't TSA Pre/Global Entry (in the USA).6. The locking/tether system is the best I've seen, the zippers strong and solid, zipper pulls are a very durable metal. There is no way to get into this bag without destroying it - which makes insurance claims much more likely to succeed - should a dummy thief not just go past your bag to an easier one next to it.In summary: This bag is well made, good looking, has all the features I need and is incredibly good Value For Money at about $95 delivered. The ability to secure this bag in hotels without safes, open workspaces and airports/lounges/trains where you don't wish to constantly keep an eye on your bag while working, or drag it to the bathroom with you for a wee minute or two, is just invaluable to me on the road. If you carry around today's full business kit, you likely have some $3000-5000 of easily stolen/sold items in your bag -never mind your papers and passport. To be able to secure it all in a handsome $100 bag is IMO both a large dose of design magic and a no-brainer:BUY THIS BAG. 5Brocken pouch The backpack is very good but i really expect more because the bag is new and allready have a broken part. One of the midle pouch is broken maybe is not a good quality as it seems. 2Great overall backpack (Not ideal for lower weight limit flights)! This review is for the 17 backpack one without the lock. This backpack is one of the best all-in-one backpacks I ever seen/used. It can fit your laptop, tablet, camera, wires, some clothes (since it has a special space for just this), and small space for glasses or small earphones at the top.So why did I give it 4 stars? Well because I bought this to travel internationally and some airlines limit to 15lb for international travel. This backpack weighs like 3lb with nothing in it alone. You may able to get away with 2 -3lb extra if they don t weigh the backpack but it s not realistic to stick everything I needed in this backpack for a week of travel be in that weight limit. Smaller backpacks are less likely to get weighed, but this looks kind of bulky due to its size so getting away with the extra weight might be harder.Unless you carry light, this is more ideal for local travel or higher class of travel like business or first class in flights with lower weight limits.PROS:1. Durable and sturdy2. Anti-theft lock option3. Loads of space (clothes, accessories, toiletries and electronics)CONS:1. Weighs 3lb+ with nothing in it, so this will give you less weight to add to your max weight limit on flights.2. Bulky looking on your back, so more likely to get weighed at the baggage check in at the airport.3. Recommended for higher weight limit flights or higher class travel (Business or first). 4Purchased and returned Bought this and returned it for the eBags Weekender which proved to be a much better decision. This bag has ample space for storing items but it's just ugly. Looks like you have a cheaply made, blocky shaped suitcase strapped to your back. By the eBag. It's the real deal. 3Best Backpack Ever PERIOD. I am a college student and I must say this is an excellent backpack. It's perfect for traveling as well as everyday use. The locking system is magnificent as there are several situations where I must leave my backpack unattended for a few moments and now I do not have to worry. You simply place all of your valuables in the either the laptop compartment or the larger center compartment. The front compartment does not lock but is very inconspicuous under the flap. You place all of the zippers in the locking plate and lock it to an object that cannot easily be moved.- This backpack is made of quality materials, with an almost indestructible construction, It lasted me an entire summer semester without a snag. I am generally rough on my backpacks yet after 3 months this backpack still looks brand new.- The lock is very strong and I'd be more concerned about someone breaking the lock before they break into the bag- Sits very comfortable on your back even with lots of weight. I carry a Macbook Pro 13" from Mid 2012 (Waiting on the 2016 Release Come on Apple), a 9.7 inch iPad in the very well protected tablet slot, as well as a 5 subject notebook and 3 other 150 sheet notebooks with a few textbooks and maybe a lab coat some days, and various other small accessories such as headphones, battery pack, a portable hard drive and other pens and pencils. I will however say that If you carry more than this( which I doubt you do) go for the 17 inch model as this bag is at capacity with this load. This is what I have with me on a day to day basis and it feels like a feather on my back with about 15 lbs of contents it holds its shape, there is a convenient slot for the lock on the opposite side of the collapsible water bottle holder which is great because its made of mesh and does not hold water so its always dry even if the liquids do not remain in the container. The elastic pouches inside first two pockets are great for storing things like laptop chargers, other various cables, calculators and post it notes. One of my favorite features of the bag is the luggage pass through slot, This allows you to place the bag securely on a suitcase handle which is perfect in the airport. You slide it on to your carry on handle and this way you won't have to carry it around all the time this also means that you don't have to sit it on the floor when you want to sit down. It even has a hidden compartment to store your passport and boarding pass for quick and easy access. I often put my phone here (iPhone 6 Plus) when I'm sitting and don't want to keep it in my pocket. If you're looking for a durable bag with versatility and great security this is the bag for you and its all backed by a 10 year warranty which I don't anticipate having to use. 5Wish it was a better fit for an Alienware 17R4! If you don't have an Alienware 17R4, this might work for you just fine. It looks pretty much like it would last a long time, but I wasn't happy with the fit of my 17R4 - it fit, but I had to force it, and it didn't fit inside the pocket at all (neither did my non-gaming Lenovo 17" laptop, which was a surprise). The Lenovo 17" didn't need forcing, but IT didn't fit in the pocket either - which makes me think that maybe the pocket isn't for the laptop - which makes me think the design doesn't include any side support for the laptop other than the zipper - which on the Alienware is tighter than I'd like. In fact, when zipping it up I felt that I was putting too much stress on the zipper and surrounding area. When loaded with almost all my stuff, it was pretty comfortable when worn as a backpack. I only tried walking about 500 yards or so, but it was pretty pleasant (and this was in 90 degree heat in AZ). On the loading up issue, there's one big compartment in the middle which is NOT reachable without the laptop section unzipped. This is probably to increase the security of the thing - you can lock the zippers for the front and back parts, which makes it impossible to reach the majority of the contents without the key (or breaking something). I found it didn't exactly fit the way I wanted to use it, but others may love it (someone reviewed some other backpack and complained that it DIDN'T have this feature, so this is definitely personal preference). What I take to be the camera pocket on the outside (not locked by the lock) fit my Nexus 5 in a protective case just fine. Or it would hold a bunch of credit cards (perhaps a small wallet as well). But it isn't locked. On the other side of the backpack is a compartment that I couldn't figure out what it was for. Didn't hold the phone (too small)... Notice that this is made by Kensington, who make locking cables - and the locking device can take either a 'normal' padlock or what appears to be any of the Kensington security locks - which means you can lock it to a table leg or such. (Actually, I think you could manage to use BOTH a padlock AND the other lock - meaning you could lock it to a non-movable object, unlock it from that object but still have the backpack locked. Nice touch for travel, IMHO.*IF* it had been a better fit for my Alienware I would have kept it, but I returned it and went for an Alienware 18 backpack. (Hope I like THAT!) 4comfortable straps, safety features (locking cable sold separately) interiors ... Purchased this for my college student, their other back pack was fashionable but offered no real protection for the computer, and was uncomfortable to carry heavy books. So, I looked and looked for one which would be durable, functional, light weight but offer protection for computer and electronics, separate spaces, comfortable straps, safety features (locking cable sold separately) interiors lined and cushioned and sized for her height and weight. She loved it, traveled with it to Europe and its been used daily at university for the last 1.5 years and still looks new. This bag has literally lifted a weight off her shoulders and made walking to classes across campus a little less burdensome.I imagine lots use even after college...great product. 5Look professional with a high quality back pack I had knee surgery and needed a pack to carry my business items including a laptop and tablet through airports and into meetings. This works perfect, and it has a very clean professional look that I like. I'm 5'11", I bought the 15" and it seemed a little small for me so I gave it to my wife and I got the 17". I also got the locking system which I like, I have been using their locks for years on laptops so I knew it was right. 5
