Customer Reviews

perfect fit, exactly the right part nice, easy upgrade to the ceiling in my house. looks great and fits perfectly.a few were scratched, so check carefully, but enough were just fine. 5Clean Line and Bulbs last over a Year! I have these through out my Home. They are very quiet and clean looking. Just soft light.I just don't know how to change the bulb! ;-) 4A different design & buyer beware A different design than what the 440 apparently used to be when my house was built in 2008 & rather expensive. This product no longer clips to the halogen bulb it was designed to hold, so your bulb will just float around inside the gimbal and hopefully be directed where you point it (mine would not). I returned but had to pay my own shipping. The fine print also indicates I'll be paying 20-50% in "restocking fees." This was an expensive mistake. 1Works great I'm using these to spotlight art on the walls in my office. They're unobtrusive, and can be easily adjusted to any angle from straight down to nearly parallel to the ceiling. If you angle them very steeply, you will see the edges of the gimbal, so if you want a more flush look and a steep angle, you might want a different fixture. I used these with Halo brand enclosures and they fir just fine. 5good deal. good price and good quality. 5This is it, if you need it. This replacement fixture is hard to find, given all of the new lighting fixtures/bulbs on the market. I long for the days of the 100 Watt bulb! 5OK MR16 Gimbal...but Here are some Lessons Learned We're adding new 12V recessed lighting around the house...mostly on paintings, drapes, kitchen counters, etc. A couple of professional lighting designers had recommended going with 4" low-voltage (12V) MR16 lights...so that is what we did. I then spent weeks trying out dozens of different types of trims (eyeballs, gimbals, recessed cones, truncated cones, chrome (clear), white, gold, etc). I didn't find a book to help much with that selection. There are almost hundreds of trim styles and color combinations, but most aren't on Amazon or in the big box stores like Home Depot...you have to go to web wholesale electric sites. We bought a couple of these Juno 440 Gimbal Ring trims from Amazon to have something quick to experiment with, as they're available from Amazon with Prime shipping available. They're relatively high quality, but on the expensive side compared to what we paid for most of ours...the trims typically run from about $10 for the cheap imported knockoffs to $45 for the expensive undiscounted name-brand ones like Halo and Elite. For me the discriminating difference between the various trims turns out to be:1) The trim's visibility when the bulb is switched off. The eyeball and gimbal trims show a fair amount by hanging down below the ceiling, where as the cones and truncated cones are recessed back, but often have the cone surface fairly visible on the ceiling. The various recessed cones can be obtained in different cone and rim colors to tie into one's decor: Typically chrome (called clear), brass (called gold), copper, brushed stainless, white and black). The polished metal ones provide a fairly visible metal glint on the ceiling which you may or may not like. The white cones blend into the ceiling color quite well, and the black ones look, well, black.2) The bulb and housing visibility when switched ON. With the eyeball and gimbal trims, the bright bulb is quite visible when the bulb is on, and the bulb invariably lights up part of the gimbal trim elements making them shine brightly (white) on the ceiling, drawing attention to the fixtures. With the white cones and baffles, the bulb is quite well hidden, but the white cone or baffle is lit up and shines brightly on the ceiling. With the polished metal cones, the cone reflects the light downward and is not lite up when viewed from a distance. Thus, they blend into the ceiling color when ON...and tend to not be particularly visible. The black cones act similarly.3) Some trims can create very harsh unwanted glints when viewed from an angle. A couple of cone trims we tested created very harsh glints where the bulb filament reflected directly off of a part of the shiny bulb mount assembly when the bulb was tilted off-axis a bit. These we quickly rejected. We found that using truncated cones for 30-degree wall lighting solved this problem very well.4) Most of the trims when used for lighting paintings created distracting halos (rings of light) on the wall. This is easily corrected by inserting a diffusing lens (Halo L111 filter) in front of the bulb...these filters work miracles.5) The trim and bulb retention springs vary a bit in user friendliness. All the trims simply push up into the 4" cans in the ceiling and are retained by their three-spring clips. The MR16 bulbs are similarly held in place by a two-spring clip assembly. They all work about the same...but the more expensive trims tend to work a bit easier... some you have to fight with to get the bulb in and out. BOTTOM LINE: For our application, we liked the look of "no lights visible when ON" so ended up with truncated shiny metal cones for the painting lighting and straight cones for vertical down lights. The chrome look (clear cones) didn't particularly tie into our decor, so we went with gold cones with white rims, as we have quite a few polished brass fixtures in the rooms. We're very happy with the results...mostly white trims with gold truncated cones that hide the bulb from side view and allow 30 degree angle on paintings (e.g. Elite B1463RB-WH trims). As noted above, we used Amazon for the early-test gimbal trims (the Junos) and the special Low Voltage Magnetic dimmers that you need to dim the lights. You need the dimmers and a variety of MR16 bulb styles (wattage and angle) to balance the lighting effects in different locations. I have other reviews on the dimmers. 3they work great. get the Philips 453480 10-Watt (50-Watt) MR16 LED they work great. get the Philips 453480 10-Watt (50-Watt) MR16 LED... bulbs. it fits perfect. 5Five Stars Perfect, simple 5
