Customer Reviews

yes, it's a little fiddly to put on, ... yes, it's a little fiddly to put on, but I suspect that will smooth out with time. It will go on "reversed" for storage, if you really need to. Seems to work ok, and stays in place during use.I'm finding all these hard plastic bayonet style hoods are way more trouble than they ought to be, even the official ones from Olympus and Panasonic. So I'm switching back to rubber hoods for medium and longer lenses. 3The Olympus hood went onto the lens smoothly and easily. This one is a chore to put on ... I previously had the Olympus MD Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm f/4-5.6 lens, with an Olympus hood for it, but both were stolen so I had to replace them. Decided to try and save a few dollars on the hood by buying this instead of the Olympus one. That was a mistake. The Olympus hood went onto the lens smoothly and easily. This one is a chore to put on and off - you have to work to get it on, and work to get it off again. The fit seems to be too tight. So this one is going back and I'm going to spend the extra money to get the Olympus hood again. If you are willing to put up with the fit issues, the quality seemed fine otherwise. 2Materials OK, fits badly The overall design and the quality of the plastic seems fine, but after receiving this one I would probably recommend just buying the Olympus version for another eight dollars. This one seems to attach a little more smoothly now than before with usage and practice, but probably will never go on and off as easily as I would like. Mine also doesn't click into place at the end of its travel, it just won't turn any more, so it's probably good that it is a little stiff anyway. I don't know if the Olympus version does the same. EDIT: With a bit more torque it DOES snap into place at the end of its travel, I just didn't want to force it and break something. 3Very affordable lens hood Great alternative to the olympus branded lens hood, which was waaay to expensive. This one gets the job done, fits snugly on the lens when in use, and comfortably reverses over the lens when not in use (not an elegant fit, but adequate).Only one complaint, which is that you are not able to take the standard lens cap on and off the lens while this lens hood is on. This is more a complaint about the standard issue lens cap, but may be useful to some buyers. 5Great hood for a great price. It fits.It covers. It stores. What more do you need in a lens hood? It's cheaper then the official brand. That's all I require. 5Good hood for less So far it looks it was a good decision to not pay premium for Olympus hood. I wasn't convinced of the quality of this hood as initially was quite tight and I was afraid I'd damage it installing. But a few installations later and now it is not as tight. Just remember to align that little arrow at 12 o'clock and push all the way onto the barrel before twisting. 5Cheap but does the Trick Cheap, plastic, a little flimsy, but does the job. My choice was to pay Olympus' exorbitant price for a lens hood (which, in my opinion, should come with the lens anyway) or to buy a cheaper version. I chose the cheaper version so I got what I paid for, and am happy with it. 5No problems with it Not sure why Olympus did not include a lens hood with this lens, instead you have to buy one from them separately. I ordered this one instead of the one from Olympus because it was much cheaper. It's just a lens hood for a cheap zoom lens, I just could not justify what Olympus wanted me to pay for something that should have been included with the lens in the first place. Not much to say about it except it fits the lens with no problems, it's a solid and secure fit. It's not metal, but I didn't expect it to be, the build quality is the same as other lens hoods that I own, in other words, it's not something that's going to break or fall off with normal use. 5At first, I didn't think it fit. As with the other lens hoods from this company, this one is well made and does the job. I gave it 4 stars instead of five because at first, I couldn't get it to fit on the 40-150 Oly lens. Here's the trick with this lens and all the JJC lenses that I've purchased. Hold the camera pointing toward you, upright. Position the shade so that the writing on the shade is at the 9:00 position. Push the shade fully onto the lens so that the lugs engage the lens. Then turn 1/4 clockwise. The writing will be on top of the shade looking down at the camera. Once I figured this out, the shade fits snugly. Other than the fact that the shade seems large in relation to the lens, it works fine. I recommend it as a way of reducing lens flare and protecting the lens. 4Inexpensive Way to Reduce Flare! It took a little fiddling to figure out how to snap it into place on my Zuiko 40-150 However, one of the reviews I read explained: "Hold the camera pointing toward you, upright. Position the shade so that the writing on the shade is at the 9:00 position. Push the shade fully onto the lens so that the lugs engage the lens. Then turn 1/4 clockwise. The writing will be on top of the shade looking down at the camera." That did the trick! 4
