Customer Reviews

Unreliable Security System Many people have complained about this product in terms of setting up the system. I actually have had no problems with that, upon installation Wi-Fi and all the devices seemed to work fine. I did have to purchase two extra sirens because they were ridiculously low in volume, maybe in an apartment building with wood doors you might be able to hear it, but as a deterrent for most homes they are not going to do the job. I have purchased other type of door alarms for instance one when you go to a hotel and they are by far and away much louder. My main issue is whenever they have updates, which have been multiple times, there always seems to be a problem. I ve lost track at the number of times I ve had to unplug all the sirens in my house because the app was not working. There have been times when I have this system disarmed on the app and for some reason it still stays on. There s other times where I had to set it up for Amazon echo and that would not work and I ended up not using Amazon Echo. There were other time when I would test smoke detectors alarms on the spot camera and sometimes it would work and sometimes it would not regardless of Wi-Fi speed. Customer service usually consist of responses only via email. You will almost never get a response on the phone. Most of the time their response in an email is to unplug the system and let it restart. I ve even seen some responses online from the company that said they couldn t respond or were busy one time because they were celebrating the fact that one of their employees was having a baby. I m not joking! I left ADT because they charge too much for systems that got a lot of False readings. I wanted to get something more modern but not at the expense of safety for my family. We all know when dealing with electronics you will have problems here and there but this is supposed to be a security company and the day you actually need this to work you, to protect your family, you do not want to hear something like sorry we were updating the system when you were broken into. You don t want to run around your house on plugging sirens because your wife left for work and now little kids are being woken up because you can t Disarm your own alarm. 1Outstanding Technology For The Money I need to start off by saying I m extremely happy with my system. Has it been perfect? Nope, there have been a few hiccups, but nothing that I haven t been able to work through. I have read all the reviews, and some say customer support is non existent. I have not had this problem. Joshua in tech support has been on point every time I ve contacted them by following their instructions. You have to open a support ticket through email and they will contact you within 24 to 48 hours. Once you are in the support que, they will call you if necessary and are extremely informative. This is a startup company that took off way faster than they expected. I m sure they are understaffed. I came up with a great work around for an extra loud external siren and super bright xenon strobe light. I incorporated their smart switch with a 2 amp power supply connected to an outside siren and strobe light and integrated it to the arm and disarm modes through the use of IFTTT. I made my own set of rules that work with the systems triggers, and It works great. Now my system will peel the paint off my neighbors walls if the alarm goes off. I immediately get notified by text, push notification, email, and a recorded phone call from Ismartalarm! Now I can look into my property with several cameras before deciding to reset the alarm remotely from my phone, or call the authorities. The cube siren is much louder if you turn it upside down but not loud enough to deafen my dogs penned up in the next room, which is perfect in my opinion. The ismartalarm remote siren sounds like a toy, but I placed one on my back porch nevertheless. It s enough to get my neighbors attention that lives behind me. I have several UPS backup battery systems, and have linked the cube, router, siren, strobe, and all my cameras to battery backup. I have also burried my broadband cable in steel conduit so it is harder to cut. If you re willing to get creative this system offers a lot of bang for the buck. I m now anxiously waiting for my keypad to arrive, as using the app to control modes is not always convenient. The keyfobs work great but are clunky and not something I want to carry on my key ring. The other problem I worked out was the cameras sometimes have to be power cycled for the motion detection to work consistently. I did this with cheap digital timers that do it automatically every few days after we get home from work. All it takes is a one minute cycle and you re good to go. I feel very confident this system will work as good as any monitored system with no monthly fees or surprises in the mail for false alarms. I have only had one false alarm when a lizard walked across a motion detector on my covered patio by my pool deck. It scared the $#%@ out of me when my phone went off at the office because I assigned a siren ring tone and silent mode bypass to the incoming ismartalarm phone number....lol yeah I m nuts, but I m having fun with it. 5Brilliant DIY Home Security It is an awesome product! I don't understand some of these less than positive reviews, but I do see some misrepresentations of what some people claim that it will not do.Before you buy it, go to their website and read the forums. There you will see a lot of what it does and does not do from real users. They do not sell the cube separatley. If you want the cube you have to buy a cube system and then build it up from there.Okay, so first off, the iSmartalarm home security monitoring system with the cube was designed to be a separate product from the iCamerakeep. The iCamerakeep is a stand alone product by itself that will monitor with motion sensor and send you alerts, but it won't record video as a stand alone, you need the cube to record video. If you do decide to link the iCamerakeep to the cube system, you need to understand how it works. The iCamerakeeps have motion sensors but they only trigger the system in their stand alone operation. When you link the iCamerakeeps to the cube, the motion sensors do not trigger the system. They don't need to. If you have a cube system than you already have window contacts and door contacts and motion sensors that will trigger the system. When linked to the cube, if the alram is triggered, than the camera's motion sensors will start that camera's video recording when motion is detected by that camera. If the intruder moves to another camera, then that camera will start recording. You can have up to four iCamerakeeps (and one iCamera). Now, if you want the iCamerakeeps motion sensors to be part of the trigger system, you CAN do that too! You create a custom mode and the instructions are in their forums. Some cavaet here...the custom mode can be armed only from the phone app, not from the key FOB. So you do need to take out your phone to activate the custome mode when you leave the house. The nice thing is you can disarm the system even with the custom mode with the key FOB. So your family memebers don't have to hassel with anything unusual, one button on the key tag and their in. On the other hand if you arm the system from the key tag instaed of the custom mode, it will arm in it's default settings, which is the iCamerakeeps will now record video when motion is in front of them, but they won't triigger the system from their motion sensors.(EDIT: Jan 2019 - You can now customize the default buttons on the remote tag, including if you want the icamerakeeps for triggering the alarm.)Another point that is mentioned a lot is that it can get expensive adding cameras and sensors. The iSmartalarm does not have a monthly fee. Any other system will require purchasing the hardware, ie; cameras, sensors, key tags etc., anyway, and then you have a monthly fee on top of that if you want monitoring. The iSmartalarm is a monitoring system, sends alerts to your smartphone. It also sends you a phone call. That was a huge deciding factor in my decision. Most other DIY systems only send you alerts. With so many alerts on smartphones these days they are annoying and often ignored. Set up a unique ring tone, like mine is a series of beeps, so you know it's your ismartalram. You can then verify what is going on if you have the cameras. Phone call systems are typically found on monitored systems, like ADT. The alarm calls ADT, then they call you. Sounds great until you think for a second. Huh?? Just have the system call me.It took me less than an hour to set up mine, blind to any previous knowledge of the system. I could set up another one in fifteen minutes. I set mine up in a two story house. The cube is upstairs and there are sensors downstairs. The system has no problem finding and communicating between the two floors. So it is not just for small apartments or dorms. You can greatly expand the system. It is absolutely brilliant, well thought out and well engineered. I am a retired Electronic Engineer and I appreciated their achievement.Their tech support is also very good. I spoke with Albert there, who answered the phone and walked right through any questions I had, no problem. Do your own homework first, understand what the iCamerakeep system is and the iSmartalarm cube system is.Unlike some of the other reviews, I had absolutley no problems with the set up, the hardware, the cameras, the sensors or anything else. In my opinion, their hardware Engineers are really good and their software Engineers are really good. I have only one complaint. The key tag has raised plastic instead of real labeling. I first saw this style used on the back of VCR's and DVD players and I always hated this penny pinching system. Unless you have really, really good light and 20/20 vision it's impossible to read. I put my own lables on the key tag, see the photo. That's my complaint. It is a great system and a great product. It's one of the few times I bought something and was 100% happy. Just know what it is before you dive in! 5Good, but could easily be better I shopped a few systems before settling on iSmart (SimpliSafe, Fortress, Scout and Nest). All of them had some fatal flaw or required a subscription of some sort, and that's why the iSmart eventually won out, based mostly on price, considering it did everything the other system claim without monitoring fees. Installation was reasonably simple, although there needs to be some work done on the component designs before one can call it ideal. Some issues with the install:- No means of mounting door sensors aside from the included mounting tape. By now, these should allow for a screw mount.- Neck and ball swivel on motion sensor too short/doesn't allow for a true inside corner mount. Cutting a piece of chamfer filler to mount it directly into a corner solved this (see pic).- Auxiliary siren lacks any sort of mounting bracket. By design, it simply sits on a surface when you should have an option to ceiling/wall mount to put it out of reach. The app:- Easy to understand and navigate.- Easy to manage components via the app.- Lacks the ability to schedule active times/days for any components. This is huge for me and I don't understand why it doesn't exist.Performance of the individual components:- Door/window sensors respond immediately, as they should.- Motion sensor has excellent range with no false alarms from pets or a running ceiling fan.- Arming/disarming as well as custom routines all work as programmed.- 110 db sirens sound more like 80 - 85 to my ears.Actual performance of the system as a whole has one glaring flaw and that's the random, unexplained disconnecting of the base system. There is no audible or otherwise electronic notification that your base has disconnected. Case in point was a trip to the movies in the next city over just today. The whole time away, my base station was offline. Had someone broken into my home, I would have never known relying solely on the iSmart. It wasn't until I came home for 20 minutes and forgot to disarm the system that I realized something had gone wrong. Thankfully my camera system is separate from that. 3For the love of god DO NOT RISK YOUR LIFE ON THIS PRODUCT!!! I had a similar to experience to many of the positive reviews on here. Installation is a breeze, within 10 minutes I had a functioning alarm system delivering messages right to my iPhone! But right off the bat some things didn't work. Then gradually more things stopped working, all the way to where I find myself today, a year later, with a system that doesn't work at all. Here's the list:1. I never got the motion sensor to do anything. I didn't really want it so was not put out by it, but there is no calibration of it and it simply does nothing in my system, you can jump around in front of it and will never get a sensor notice.2. I had one cam work somewhat reliably but another work intermittently. It didn't seem to matter where the intermittent working one was placed or how close to the router. Sometimes I could connect, other times not.3. If your internet connection drops/restores, your cams will never work again until you've recycled the power to the cameras. I have Verizon and and every several days I think my internet takes a hit. It doesn't adversely affect anything and comes back all on its own minutes later with no lingering issues for computers, netflix, playstations, etc... However the iSmartAlarm cams will never re-establish until you hard boot them amd you will not be able to connect to them. Obviously this is dangerous to rely on!4. The remote reboot does not work at all. The front end app says its rebooting the base station but it doesn't do anything.5. Firmware update appears to update, but then leaves your base station in an offline state until you hard boot it. DO NOT DO THIS WHILE AWAY!6. My door sensors worked near flawlessly for several months. I went through a cycle of batteries after getting low battery warnings. But then after another few months, one of them again reported a low battery. Bought new batteries but this time it showed "low battery" in perpetuity. I went through a few brand new batteries with no change to the low-battery status. Then this happened to another sensor. And it is in a similar state. No battery will ever satisfy them now.6. I bought new sensors to replace the "low battery" sensors and they are immediately identified and added to the system showing full batteries. But now, not sure if it was the latest firmware update or other issue, but the sensors no longer trigger anything. The app shows them connected, but open a door/window and NOTHING. Base station has been rebooted and all that.It appears I got 1 year of mileage out of this alarm system which I consider an epic fail. It's fun as a hobby system, but if you are looking for something to protect your family or you live in a bad area, DO NOT RELY ON iSmartAlarm. 1The delivery was fine it was on time the product is garbage The delivery was fine it was on time the product is garbage, I think they got bought out terrible customer service do not buy this product it does not work like it used to it hacks into your system through china do not trust this system, it creeps into your phone from the app and into everything else confuses modem causes crashes.it allows your system to be vulnerable to attacks. There support does not exist at all. This used to be a good product not sure what happened but Interpol should be informed about what this does to the internet on a local scale. 1While I wanted to love the system Have had the system for about 14 months now. While I wanted to love the system, I find it is often unreliable.I love the fact that you can check in on your camera's feed from anywhere. I have two camera's, the iCamera keep and a Spot. Both camera's have given me problems on and off. Parts of the system in the past year have been replaced free of charge by the company. You can't reach a "live" person but I usually got responses by email. The downside, is the defective product would have to be returned first before they would send out a replacement. So, if you have security system, do you really want to be without a certain component of it for two weeks???The motion sensors and sensor contacts always worked great. The problem is the internet service sometimes goes out (the cable company's fault); however the problem arises when this happens a few times and it does something to the camera and the camera won't re-set itself so you have no way to connect to the camera. The only way to re-bott is to physically unplug the unit, wait a minute, and plug it back in. Away from the house for a week? Well, your out of luck if you travel a lot or are away from home. This problem has been ongoing. Now, after a software update two months ago, it hasn't been working right, or I should say, hardly working. I submitted a ticked to iSmart several weeks ago, but no response. The spot camera, has the same problems -- if the power to your house or the internet/wifi goes down and comes back up, it glitches and can't be re-set unless you unplug the camera. This doesn't work very well for me being away a lot.I do get false "alarms" from spot camera saying it detects motion. However, I'd rather have that happen and take a look for myself by going on the ap and check the video feed it took. It is pretty sensitive and picks up light movement as movement within the house (i.e. sun going down or wind blowing branches outside that reflect on your inside walls). This is minor and I see that as a plus to catch any would-be intruder.Overall, for the money paid for this system, I would not re-purchase as I'd want something more reliable. 3DON'T WORK DURING THE HOLIDAYS Every year during holidays, I guess iAlarm serves can't handle the demand; I come home and I cannot DISARM the system. I have tried to wait, but to no avail. Tried having other users try to disarm and nothing. So invariably I open the door the alarm goes off and the only thing I can do is pull to cord out to disconnect... this is annoying and un-reliable, precisely when you need it the most, during the holidays....As soon as the holidays comes, we notice I huge drop in the response time when you arm or disarm the system...iAlarm you've GOT TO FIX THIS..... 1Poor quality hardware. Spammy software. Poor quality hardware. Spammy software. The sirens are way too quiet. On the base unit I have to disassemble and stick the detached speaker membrane myself. This satellite siren is also weak and way overpriced. Nowhere near advertised decibel rating. Our Piper NV unit is 10 times louder. Also, stop spamming us with stupid ads and promotions when we open the app! We may need to quickly view of our house is being burglarized or to disarm. Regardless, we don't need your spam after you already got all our money to equip the whole house with iSmartAlarm stuff. 1Siren that integrates well with IFTTT (Arlo) Buy a bunch and put them all over your house! This siren isn't weatherproof, but you can put it next to an open window (on the 2nd floor) and have it pointed at the street. You can also use it as a door chime so that you know when somebody is opening one of your doors.IFTTT Integration - This siren works wonders with Arlo cameras. You can set a recipe so that the sirens go off when your Arlo cameras detect motion! If you accidentally set off the alarm, I recommend buying several remote tags and hiding them around the house. You can also use the remotes as a quick "panic button" for a greater sense of security in your home.Below is a video of me setting off the alarm on accident. It responds fairly quickly depending on your internet connection.Remote Tag RC3R Control System 5
