Customer Reviews

Setup Requires Patience OK so I ordered this to convert old home tapes of the family to the hard drive. Sounds simple, nothing fancy, just transfer the video.Pros:It does workCons:As stated before everything is in Japanese. But installing the drivers is fairly easy.Software: It comes with Power Producer 5 in Japanese and will not install on a Windows 10 English PC.Software: Downloaded XSplit on other recommendations. If you get a "Device not found".Try the following.1. In Windows search, type "privacy" and hit enter.2. On the left sidebar, under App Permissions, click on Camera.3. Find the toggle under "Allow apps to access your camera" and set it to on.Bottom Line: Requires patience. 4Better than El Gato I'm a videophile and I've been archiving my hard to replace VHS movies using a JVC HR-S9900U. I compared this device to an ElGato which I also got at the same time. There's also a good Diamond one, but I didn't try it. Instructions and setup in Japanese as expected. I used Google Translate through my phone's camera to translate it. After a fair amount of reading online, I was able to get superior results using OBS Studio and Handbrake to capture, crop, fix to 640x480, and de-interlace. The ElGato Video Capture is probably the next best device available. The ElGato comes with stupid-easy software, but it has no adjustments. The saved material was a little too compressed, and it had a deal-breaking problem; the audio would drift out of sync over the length of a two-hour movie (starts in sync, ends up about 200mS out of sync by the end of tape). If you're serious, get the GV-USB2 and be prepared to do some reading and a good amount of experimenting. If you've got material that's less than an hour and just want something really easy, get the ElGato. 5An excellent capture device An excellent capture device. If you're considering a Dazzle or EZcap, try this first. Build quality feels good. Works as a video capture device with OBS after downloading the I-o DATA drivers from their website (which is in Japanese, but is easy to figure out with a quick Google translation) and entering the serial number, which is on a decal on the device itself. Mine included a disc with capture software and drivers, but I had trouble getting it to work; probably an issue on my end. Capture is very quick and low-latency, as far as capture devices go - just keep in mind that you will probably need to deinterlace your footage, either while capturing which OBS can do - I used Yadif 2x, top field first and got the best results - or in post-production, which I haven't done in years, so I can't speak to current software.I primarily use this to capture S-Video, and have compared it against my Elgato HD and found very little difference in quality, especially if you're going to be streaming (and therefore compressing) the footage. I love the Elgato for its versatility and overall reliability, but if you're on a budget or don't care about HDMI input, I can't recommend this enough. 5Good for playing retro games on PC, bad for HD streaming. You can find guides to set up this bad boy for connecting your retro gaming devices to your PC for streaming. It can be complicated if you're not patient since it's all in Japanese. It's more stable than some Composite to HDMI converters I've tried and the video quality was also better. However, while I had the best results using OBS, the video quality was nothing like hooking your system to the TV. Was I expecting as much, not 100%, but the image quality is still blurry enough to not give good screenshots for my reviews. It looks like I'll have to pay a decent amount more for the quality I'm looking for.On a return note, I didn't read enough into the policy. If you pick this up and try it out, you'll only get 50% of what you paid for it back and you'll need to pay for the shipping back to Japan. This leaves me with about 25% of what I paid for it, at best and not worth returning. Know that going in. It looks like I'm swallowing the cash on this poor choice. If you are casually playing and are simply looking for some retro gaming on the PC because TV's are too rare (sarcasm included), then this item is passable at best. 3BY FAR this device is WAY better than the ElGato HD60 for capturing retro video game ... BY FAR this device is WAY better than the ElGato HD60 for capturing retro video game consoles. The capture quality is amazing, and setting it up in OBS is very easy. Setting it up to work with the computer AND output to a CRT TV at the same time was a bit of work, but not too hard. I had to purchase rca y-splitters and male-to-male rca cables (all of which were cheap here on Amazon), then split the m2m rca cables so I had 2 outputs for each channel (2 video, 2 audio left, 2 audio right). Then, one of each input went to the I-o Data USB and the other inputs went to the CRT TV. Again, a bit of work, but not hard.I have used this device to capture SNES gameplay, and never once have I had an issue. I HIGHLY recommend this device for anyone looking to capture retro consoles.HEADS UP: THE DIRECTIONS FOR THIS DEVICE ARE IN JAPANESE!!! WHEN YOU PUT IN THE DISK, PRESS #1, THEN #2. THIS WILL INSTALL THE DRIVERS AND ALLOW THE DEVICE TO WORK WHEN PLUGGED IN. 5Amazing device I bought this for digitalizing some old family VHS videos before the tapes fully deteriorates or my 1989 camera stop working. At first I bought a cheap 5$ EasyCap. It worked and I converted some tapes but was not really happy with the result, the video was OK, but the audio had a really annoying static sound that made me search for a better option to do the thing. Then I bumped on this, and reading some reviews here I decided to give it a try. Boy, I'm really glad that I did.Not just the audio got as good as it could get but the video also have a huge difference when compared with the EasyCap. The 30$ difference is nothing, taking into account the quality jump for all those rare memories. Then I watched a youtube video "How to convert VHS videotape to 60p digital video (NTSC)" that really helped me a lot, I recommend to anyone that is doing the conversion. Basically, you capture the video on a software called VirtualDub, then you deinterlace the video, and in the end you compress the video. It takes quite a time for every tape but the quality is amazing, and since it's family memories I think it worth the time. The only thing that I did different from the guy on the video was that the compression program the he used (Handbrake) did not work with me, so I used other one called Avidemux that gave me amazing results. All those softwares are freewares as well :)The only complaint that I have is that the CD software came bent, it was unreadable (I added a photo). I had to download the software from the japanese website, but with google translating it to english was quite easy. A lot of people gave this thing a bad reviel just because the driver instalation and the manual were in Japanese, but this was not a problem at all, it's very intuitive, and you don't need a manual to use this thing, it's just plug and play.I hope to help somebody like the reviews here helped me. Sorry for any english mistake, it's not my mother tongue. Cheers from Brazil :) 5Streak of Luck! It's all Japanese to me. Package is COMPLETELY in Japanese. Instruction manual in Japanese, Installation DVD in Japanese. Children who appear on the black and white instruction manual are Japanese. I'm Mexican and speak zilch, nada Japanese; I speak some English, maybe but that's it.Device is NOT plug and play. It will NOT work unless you install the drivers on the DVD it came with.To Install: Device may or may not be connected to your PC or Laptop.0. Insert the CD1. Click option at the right.2. Click option with number 1.This will install the drivers. You're done.I use mine with XSplit. Works! I was a little heavy hearted, because I thought I might have to return it but I'm glad it worked. I guess I was lucky. Once the drivers install you will see it under Sources>Webcam, caputure card, video devices>GV-USB2, Analog Capture.Turning Japanese I think I'm turning Japanese I really think so... :PSave ALL boxes, as it may not work for you and you may have to return it if it does not install on your PC or laptop. My Specs:XSplit latest version as of December 7, 2016B&O HP All-in-One Model 23-q151la (I know it sucks!)Windows 10Device is originally for connecting a VCR and digitalizing your VHS (or Beta) movies. So you can use it for this and digitalize on XSplit or your favorite streaming/recording software if you like.Enjoy and good luck with your Japanese import, lol! 5Best composite capture card for twitch streaming last gen consoles. Easy setup. Firstly I would like to point out that this capture card for use with obs (open broadcast software) does require drivers. HOWEVER, it should come with a disk that is in Japanese with the drivers on it. I've seen other reviews of this product that make a way bigger deal out of the setup process, in reality it's very easy to set up. I just googled "I-o Data GV-USB2 capture card English setup guide" and found a website that walked me through the process. I just inserted the disc into my disk drive on my pc, pressed a couple buttons, opened obs and it picked it right up. In terms of quality this capture card is best for streaming Standard Definition games. Mostly from consoles like GameCube, Nes, Wii, PS2, and PlayStation 3 to an extent. Personally I've been using it to stream my Nintendo GameCube games, and PlayStation 3 games to twitch using obs. But there is a delay on the capture card apparently, so just to be safe I ordered a cheap av composite splitter cable to split the video from my console to my tv and the capture card. So I play from my tv and have a second monitor for the rest. I happened to have my PS3 av composite cable that came with my ps3 just lying around. It's nice to get some use out of my GameCube as well. I plan to buy an av composite cable for the original Wii so I can use that to start streaming my Wii u gameplay.HELPFUL ADVICE: if you're new to obs like I was and don't take the time to fiddle with the settings you won't get any good results. I use the auto configure tool in obs to give me an idea of where to start and tinker with stuff like bit rate from there. I would highly recommend searching for a channel called eposvox on YouTube, he has an extensive yet easy to understand guide on everything obs. Do your research before buying any capture card.Overall I absolutely love this product and would recommend it to anyone looking to stream to twitch. This capture card opened the doorway to so many more possibilities for me. Before this I was streaming directly from my ps4 with no capture card. My microphone was always compressed in quality, and I was limited to the types of games I could play. Now I can do stream countdowns, overlays, have fun with a more versatile chroma key setup, and continue to expand my game library. 5Worth the price.... I purchased a cheap ($10ish) USB video capture device that worked but dropped frames. I spent hours troubleshooting to make sure there wasn't something else wrong (a bad RCA cord, bad software, computer not up to specs, etc). But eventually I came to the conclusion that the capture device was just a piece of junk. To see if I was correct I bought this device. Nothing in the package was in English, but set up was fairly easy because of the many reviews that helped with the process. I used VirtualDub to capture my video (from VHS tapes) and the results were great. This device isn't the most expensive capture device out there - but it's also far from the cheapest. But I wish I hadn't wasted the time, money and energy by trying to go super cheap. Especially when this one works so well. 5RETRO GAMING -- Streaming and recording. 10/10 I use this device to live stream and record console gameplay: NES, SNES, Wii, PS2. It should also work with other consoles outputting 480 or lower resolution: N64, Gamecube, Xbox, any Sega and other '90s systems. Some similar form capture devices have trouble with the native 240 or 224 res from 8-bit and 16-bit systems. The device is extremely easy to install and works directly with a variety of video capture programs. Much faster and easier compared to cheaper USB Cap devices. For streaming and recording the GV-USB2 will be picked up directly by Open Broadcaster Software (OBS, a free and supported streaming & recording software suite) as a Video Capture Device. Many capture devices will require capture via another video recording program like Amarec or VirtualDub and capturing the display of those running windows with OBS for streaming. This uses more CPU, desktop space, and time. A few capture devices even require you to use their obsolete pack-in software. The video capture quality is very good for an analog capture device. Capture in S-video improves color accuracy. It's easy to adjust the picture settings from inside recording software. It captures at 29.97 and 59.94 fps. The only resolutions I ever had use for in retro gaming are 720x480 and 704x480. It also has 576 support as well as SECAM, etc. Best settings I've found for NES/SNES capture in OBS: 29.97FPS, 704x480, Deinterlace using Yadif2x (Low motion in device properties). This effectively creates a 59.94 FPS game capture. Pretty good for around $40. 5
