Customer Reviews

It definitely works.TL;DR: It definitely works. At this price, it's worth it to try and you can return if it doesn't give you what you want. The internet would have you believe that SPDIF is junk...your device is poorly optimized for output, and literally every component from your cables to your neighbors dimmer switches are adding noise and jitter. Forums would have you believe that this device is necessary to save you from this misery. I bought the iPurifier to test that hypothesis. I figured, worst case, I'd just send it back.I have an old B&K 7.1 AV receiver, a Rotel amp and a pair of B&W CDM-7NTs. Nice, but nothing special in the world of hifi. I tested it using the optical output from my TV using both my DVR and an apple TV as a music source (both through HDMI to the TV). On my setup, the iPurifier makes a NOTICEABLE difference. It isn't mind blowing but extra quality is rarely this cheap. I recommend it if you have a decent system and like the convenience of an Apple TV or the optical out on your computer. If you have a fancy streamer or transport, you might not see the same benefit.5Good value, refined SQThis drastically improved the high jitter Sonos ZP-80. The Sonos coax output jitter is so bad that my Auralic Vega DAC would have dropouts 1/sec! The iFi removed the dropouts and improved the sound quality of internet streaming channels like Spotify, Pandora, iHeart Radio.Be sure to only connect the iFi output (male RCA plug) into the DAC input. If you connect it backward (iFi output male RCA into the source's output RCA) then the iFi will not lock to the stream and not work.I did not see this mentioned in the user manual. Source>cable>iFi>DAC. Not Source>iFi>cable>DAC.Adds refinement and smoothness to today's crappy consumer digital sources. In the world of hifi prices, this is a good value.5WOWThis has made a very nice difference, the noise floor has dropped even more then before.Ive got about 60 hrs on it so far and it sounds great. This little device sounded good right out of the box. After the first listen,I put in the XLO Test & Burn cd in and let it play in repeat on the Cambridge CXC transport for 60hrs and gave another listen and its even better. More realistic tone/timbre, resolving micro details, imaging is more palpable. Just more musical...best bang for the buck in years and I have been into HiFi since my Army days in Germany1975.Equipment I'm using the IFI with a Cambridge CXC cd transport,IFI spdif ,Schitt Gungnir Multibit dac,60watt Tube amp into Klipsch Hersey III.Do your self a favor and pick up one of these little gems up and sit back and enjoy your new sound.Ive seen were others have stated that it takes about 3 weeks to burn in,so if that's the case. Its only going to get better.Enjoy !!5NEVER HEARD background coughing before this filter!!I know that there are a couple of scientific reviews which say that this filter injects noise into the circuit. To that I say BAH!!I wanted whole house sound when streaming TIDAL, so I ordered several Chromecast Audio dongles a few weeks before Google decided to discontinue them. Then I read about upgrading Chromecast Audio with Ethernet input (vs. WiFi), a linear power supply (also from iFi) and this anti-jitter filter. POW!! The difference in HiFi sound from TIDAL was detected by my spouse who generally does not notice subtle audio differences. Blur, pre-ring, and noise were limited to the extent that on Diana Krall s A Case Of You (from Live in Paris Album) at 16, 32, and 41 seconds, for the first time I could hear background noise. Raised the volume until I could hear it was people coughing in the audience!! Listened to this cut many times and NEVER HEARD background coughing before.5Very coolJust some background to start. I've been at this audiophile hobby thing on and off for over 30 years, mainly because I got tired of the snake oil nonsense that is hyped for many products. Most did not improve anything and really diminished my enjoyment of getting 'new' stuff to listen to. After much "high end" equipment that let me wishing for what was promised I decided to use some common sense in picking my new system. REALLY, speakers are the most important starting point. The room is next. Everything else is fine tuning. I've had electrostatic, ribbons, full range open baffle and just about every other type. My latest and favorite is the full range line array(24 full range drivers per side) setup I have. And its amazing. Because of this I've gone all digital, signal to amp. The line arrays require it, because equalizing is critical and digital equalizers really are best. I'm guessing by now you're wondering what all this has to do with the iFi iPurifier. Allot actually because I'm using a Chromecast Audio device to stream Tidal digitally and wirelessly from my tablet (I've succumbed to convenience) . By itself, the Chromecast Audio sounded OK but I never felt fully comfortable with the entire presentation. I came across this device (iFi iPurifier) and after dismissing it (snake oil?) I bought one here. I know they say it takes 150 hrs to 'burn in' , which is alway troubling , so I wasn't expecting much. WELL, I was amazed. And still am. If I take it out, something is missing. So it stays in. And I love it. Sorry for the long winded review.5Buy this thing right now. It definitely works.First, I have no affiliation with the company at all and I was skeptical when I bought it, but with Amazon prime why not try it? The reviews sounded almost too good to be true but after doing some due diligence I bought the thing. It just arrived today, and right away I hooked it up at the spdif input to my dac, and without even burning in we heard a definite good difference in the sound. Definitely more details in the little background things and less irritating harshness in the sounds in general, but without losing good detail. The things that used to irritate me like a big loud push in the voice sound more natural now. I never realized that spdif is actually an analog signal trying to mimic digital, and so what this thing does make sense. There is no loss in the sound that I can detect. For $150 definitely worth the try. One reason I got this thing is to re-clock and clean up the spdif signal from my Oppo 103. The current top of the line Oppo universal player re-clocks the spdif signal, but for $1200 for me to buy new. This little thing I believe does about the same thing or better for $150. I was thinking of buying new speakers. Now I am not (at least for the moment!).GaryEquipment:Primaluna Dialogue 4 tube amplifier; or Temple Audio bantam solid-state amp (12VDC) Oppo 103 standard universal player, no upgrades, Used as a digital streamer and transport .Coherent Sound Design carbon fiber interconnects.Coherent Sound Design Carbon fiber speaker cablesTortuga LDR passive preamp (12VDC)Coherent Sound Design Full range speakers5The only true reclocker on the marketThe iFi SPDIF iPurifier is the only commercial FIFO reclocker on the market. It handles coaxial and optical signals, converts one to the other, if needed, and comes with a better than battery power supply. The FIFO circuit is the only true reclocker and is superior to ASRC resamplers used by everyone else and wrongly called "reclockers". The iFi uses a variable clock to average clock over 64 samples that reduces the jitter by up to 8 times. Subjectively it makes a noticeable improvement with no drawbacks. It comes with adapters and more and is worth every penny. In fact, just the power supply that comes with it already is worth the full price of this unit.PS. Upon further testing, the supplied power adapter is nowhere near as good as claimed to be, but is a substantial bottleneck. Using a better third party power supply may be a good idea.5I love this little gadget!I bought this after reading some reviews/blogs. The bottom line was maybe it will work some maybe not. For me in my system nothing could be further from the truth. Amazing upgrade on sound quality all around. Of course sound stage has opened up but most importantly the natural timber of vocals and instruments is now pure and alive. Digital glare is all but gone. I couldn t be happier with this little gadget. My system consists of a Yamaha SACD player that I use as a transport into an upgraded audio-gd R2R DAC. Through the S/PDIF digital connection, output is all PCM. One of the best and cost-effective tweaks I ve done to my system. Five stars!5Works best with DAC's in between 'budget' and 'premium'I had great results from the iPurifier. With no DAC did I have 'night and day' results, but the results were certainly more than subtle. You don't have to be listening very carefully to notice that the audio has changed for the better. I would describe the results as more 'clear' and 'tighter' all around. It is worth mentioning that on premium DAC's (those with built-in 'reclocking, cleaning' circuitry, >$1000 USD), the improvements were minimal, but noticeable nonetheless. Also, with 'budget' DAC's (<$100 USD), there also wasn't a whole lot of improvement.Where this product really shines is with all other DAC's - those a tier above 'budget' and all the way up the premiums. With some DAC's, this product brought the performance to where they approached the sound of my premium R2R resistor ladder DAC's.If you have a DAC of respectable performance, but not quite in the premium range, I would HIGHLY recommend this product. If you are pulling audio from a lesser source (television, Google Chromecast, Apple TV, etc.), than this product is a no-brainer.It would be fantastic to see a similar product in the 'nano' or 'micro' series of products. I would be the first in line to get one of those.---------------------------------------** Update (10 months of use) **I have realized that while using very good equipment, this device is actually a detriment to sonics. It appears to compress the sound and restrict audio in the extremes of the human audible range (very high and very low frequencies), especially the high frequencies. Music isn't as open and dynamic. Instead of sounding more clear, the effect is that of sounding constrained, compressed, and even somewhat muffled. In my experience, with higher end equipment, the sound has improved far more by changing to higher quality digital cables rather than using the ifi iPurifier. This is true of only higher end equipment (electronics of $1000-2000 USD and up, per component).I still stand in my opinion that for lesser equipment, this is a good upgrade.4It really works! It really works! Sound is much cleaner with better separation of instruments. You can easily hear quiet details going on in the background while other instruments and vocals are playing in the front.I was using quality digital cable, and an isolation transformer between my CD player and the DAC. The DAC is a professional quality Lavry DA10 that is supposed to have special circuitry for jitter rejection. Even so the iPurifier made a big improvement when plugged into the DAC..5
